  • Purpose: This study aimed to explore the influences of attitude to death and resilience on terminal care attitude among Korean nursing students. Methods: Participants were 230 nursing undergraduates from two nursing schools in Korea. The students responded to a self-report questionnaire that included demographics, attitude to death, resilience, and terminal care attitude. Results: The majority of the participants who had undertaken a clinical practicum had experienced the death of a patient during their clinical placements but had not yet received any support from their instructors or professionals, but also academic training on patients' death or terminal care. The mean score of terminal care of the students who had death-related education was significantly higher than among those who had not. Regression analysis indicated that attitude to death, grade, and resilience were the most significant predictors of terminal care attitude. These explained 30.3% of their terminal care attitude. Conclusion: Death-related education is needed throughout the curriculum including not only death but also resilience to develop emotional competences. In this way, nursing undergraduates will be better prepared to cope positively and constructively with the suffering and death they encounter, and thus may minimize the distress they experience in the patients' dying process. It may also create a significant positive increase in their terminal care attitude.

  • This study examined the effects of negative parenting attitudes on adolescents' academic helplessness through the mediating effects of social withdrawal and smartphone dependency. Data from the panel study of Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018 (KCYPS 2018) collected by the National Youth Policy Institute (NYPI) was used to examine the research model. The subjects of the study consisted of 2,541 first grade middle school students (1,375 boys and 1,166 girls). Confirmatory factor analysis [CFA], structural equation modeling [SEM], and bootstrapping analysis were conducted by means of SPSS 25.0, AMOS 25.0, and Hayes's PROCESS programs to examine the serial multiple mediating effects. The study results were as follows. First, negative parenting attitude had a direct effect on adolescents' academic helplessness. This implies that adolescents who perceive their parents' attitudes to be high in coercive, rejective, and chaotic levels indicate that they can easily get exhausted in academic settings. Second, negative parenting attitudes had an indirect effect on adolescents' academic helplessness through social withdrawal and smartphone dependency. The results suggest that a high level of negative parenting attitude leads to higher social withdrawal and smartphone dependency that influences adolescents' academic helplessness.

To testify the above research problems, 247 students of six classes were randomly sampled from sixth graders of “Y” elementary school, located in Suwon city. One group was taught by expository instruction method and other group was taught by inquiry instruction method. The measurement tools used in this study were learning attitude test, pre-post academic achievement test, expository teaching-learning sheets and inquiry teaching-learning sheets. The experimental treatments had been lasted for eight weeks from June to October 1996. After the experimental treatments, to testify the effects of the experiment, the pre-test and post-test were administered and the results of the tests were compared by t-test. The conclusions were as follows; 1. There was a significant difference between expository and inquiry instruction(p〈.001). Inquiry instruction was more effective than expository instruction in changing learning attitude. 2. There was a significant difference between expository and inquiry instruction(p〈.001). expository instruction was more effective than Inquiry instruction in changing academic achievement. • In order to cultivate the talents needed in the 4th industrial revolution era, it is necessary to select gifted students and train them systematically. The affective characteristics of the gifted are self-concept, personality, sociality, motivation, morality, attitude and interest, and these are important factors that affect science achievement. In particular, computer scientific attitude is an important variable affecting computer science achievement. This study developed a computer scientific attitude test based on TOSRA developed by Fraser to measure the affective characteristics of information-gifted students. The computer scientific attitude test is composed of 7 areas: social implications of computer science, attitude to computer scientific inquiry, adoption of computer scientific attitudes, adoption of computer scientific attitudes, leisure interest in computer science, career interest in computer science, and normality of computer scientists. The relationship between computer scientific attitude and academic achievement of gifted students was analyzed using the developed test. To determine find out whether computer scientific attitude significantly predicts academic achievement, the results of a regression analysis showed that t = 2.543 and p = 0.025, indicating that the average of computer science attitude significantly predicted academic achievement.

  • There are many factors that affect academic achievement, and the influences of those factors are also complex. Since the factors that influence mathematics academic achievement are constantly changing and developing, longitudinal studies to predict and analyze the growth of learners are needed. This study uses longitudinal data from 2014 (second year of middle school) to 2017 (second year of high school) of the Seoul Education Longitudibal Study, and divides it into groups with similar longitudinal patterns of change in mathematics academic achievement. The longitudinal change patterns and direct influence of mood and satisfaction were examined. As a result of the study, it was found that the mathematics academic achievement of the first group (1456 students, 68.3%) including the majority of students and the second group (677 students) of the top 31.7% had a direct influence on the mathematics class attitude. It was found that the mood and satisfaction of mathematics classes did not have a direct effect. In addition, the influence of mathematics class attitude on mathematics academic achievement was different according to the group. In addition, students in group 2 with high academic achievement in mathematics showed higher mathematics class attitude, mood, and satisfaction. In addition, the attitude, atmosphere, and satisfaction of mathematics classes were found to change continuously from the second year of middle school to the second year of high school, and the extent of the change was small.
