  • In this paper, we present E-band bond-wire modeling and a matching network to compensate for the effect of the bond-wire. The impedance of the bond-wires is extracted using three-dimensional electromagnetic simulation. The matching network was designed using a simple structure. The implemented matching network was verified with a commercial 71~81 GHz LNA IC and an interconnection based on the WR-12 waveguide. The matching network increases the transmission coefficient of the system by up to 4.5 dB, power gain by up to 3.12 dB, $P_{1dB}$ by up to 2.2 dB, and improves the gain flatness by ${\pm}1.07dB$.

  • This paper introduce a highly verstile and simple data transmission system designed for commercial power distribution lines. The system operates on the DSSS principle but utilizes two independent carrier frequencies each represents polarity of DS MODEM outiputs. At the receiving terminal, outputs of two envelope detectors are directly applied to separate DS correlators before the two components are compared. The recovered signals which represents data and line noise are then compared at comparator. With the noise power greatly rudused at the correlator, the error rate of the data observed at comparator desplays great improvement comparing to the conventional FSK-DS system in which the detector output are compared before the correlator stage. Despite its simplest structure, the prototype MODEM transmitts 2400 bps with the error rate 10 , about 10dB improved compared to conventional FSK system.

  • In UHD high-speed video transmission system, when a signal within certain frequency region coincides electrically and structurally, the system becomes unstable because the energy is concentrated, and signal flux is interfered and distorted. For the instability, power integrity analysis should be conducted. To remove the signal distortion for MLB, using a high-frequency design technique for EMI phenomenon, EMI which radiates electromagnetic energy fluxed into power layer was analyzed considering system stabilization. In this paper, we proposed an adaptive MLB design method which minimizes high-frequency noise in MLB structure, enhances signal integrity and power integrity, and suppresses EMI. The characteristic impedance for multi-layer circuit board proposed in this study were High-Speed Video Differential Signaling(HSVDS) line width w = 0.203, line gap d = 0.203, beta layer height h = 0.145, line thickness t = 0.0175, dielectric constant εr = 4.3, and characteristic impedance Zdiff = 100.186Ω. When high-speed video differential signal interface board was tested with optimized parameters, the magnitude of Eye diagram output was 672mV, jittering was 6.593ps, transmission frequency was 1.322GHz, signal to noise was 29.62dB showing transmission quality improvement of 10dB compared to previous system.

  • A new compact UWB bandpass filter with sharp-rejection and low insertion-loss is designed in this paper, using the parallel transmission line with SIR structure. An Example filter is firstly theoretically designed by the proposed synthesis procedure, the optimized by EM simulator, fabricated in microstrip line and finally characterized by a network analyzer. A good agreement between the simulation results and prototype validates the proposed UWB bandpass filter. The designed filter also realized a sharp rejection of higher order with a relatively small size which is proper for the UWB communication system.

  • This paper presents a design of a 100 W high-efficiency power amplifier, whose operational frequency band expands from 30 to 512 MHz, using negative feedback network, push-pull structure, broadband RF choke, and transmission line transformer for balun configuration. The push-pull amplifier has been tuned for higher output power using a shunt capacitor as a matching component at its load especially for high-frequency region. The implemented power amplifier exhibited a very flat power gain of $18.34{\pm}0.9\;dB$ throughout the operating frequency band and very high power-added efficiency(PAE) of greater than 40% at an output power of 100 W. It also showed second- and third-harmonic distortion levels of below -34 dBc and -12 dBc, respectively, through the entire operating frequency band.

  • This paper describes the determination of threshold value in order to determine the presence of absence of weak signal with SNR of 0 dB in 100kHz bandwidth. As a detection method, it has been used a recent LOC structure fitting for detecting weak signal in stead of a conventional method like Neyman-Peason crtical criterion. The signal for detection is the OOK modulation signal used in data and morse code transmission. The non-Gaussian noise similar to Laplacian type has been chosen in transmission path. As a result of experiment, comparing probability of detection by one critical point with that by two critical points with fixing as arbitrary false alarm probability, we have found that method has been shown to be better than the conventional method.

  • In this paper, we investigate the power integrity of grid structures for power and ground distribution on printed circuit board (PCB). We propose the 2D transmission line method (TLM)-based model for efficient frequency-dependent impedance characterization and PCB-package-integrated circuit (IC) co-simulation. The model includes an equivalent circuit model of fringing capacitance and probing ports. The accuracy of the proposed grid model is verified with test structure measurements and 3D electromagnetic (EM) simulations. If the grid structures replace the plane structures in PCBs, they should provide effective shielding of the electromagnetic interference in mobile systems. An analytical model to predict the shielding effectiveness (SE) of the grid structures is proposed and verified with EM simulations.

  • This paper presents a tunable bandpass filter based on the varactor-loaded composite right- and left-handed transmission line (CRLH-TL). The proposed filter is composed of one CRLH-TL unit cell, which corresponds to the third-order bandpass filter. The tunable bandpass filter is designed using only lumped-elements. The use of lumped elements saves space and lowers the fabrication cost. The size of the proposed tunable bandpass filter is $17mm{\times}5mm$, neglecting the feed lines and DC lines. All of the varactors are controlled by one DC bias. The center frequency of the bandpass filter can be controlled by varying the value of the varactors. The tunable range of the center frequency is from 412.5 to 670 MHz. The insertion loss is less than 3 dB, the return loss is more than 10 dB in the passband.

  • In this paper, the reduced size in horizontal sizes of the narrow band pass filter (BPF) with λg/4 short stub using S shaped folded coupling structure is presented. This BPF with narrow bandwidth show flexible bandwidth with variation of the position of the stubs using the Qe(external quality factor) without changing the impedance value. On the other hand, by replacing the horizontal quarter-wavelength transmission lines with the equivalent S shaped coupled line, the BPF with reduced the size of horizontal can be realized. The proposed BPF shows the insertion loss of 1.46 dB and the return loss of 16.5 dB with bandwidth of 3.4 % at the center frequency of 5.8 GHz, respectively.

  • In this paper, the omnidirectional circularly polarized(CP) antenna using arc-shaped mushroom structure with curved branch is proposed. To obtain a vertical polarization and an omnidirectional radiation pattern, the CP antenna uses zeroth-order resonance(ZOR) mode of composite right and left handed(CRLH) transmission line. The horizontal polarization is achieved by the curved branches. Also, the spacing between curved branch and arc-shaped mushroom structure gives the $90^{\circ}$ phase difference between vortical and horizontal polarization. The proposed antenna, therefore, has an omnidirectional CP radiation pattern In the azimuthal plane. The electrical size of the proposed antenna is reduced by 38%, compared with that of the previously presented omnidirectional CP antenna. In addition, the CP antenna is simply designed without $90^{\circ}$ phase shifter and dual feed line. The proposed antenna uses a Bazooka balun for good impedance matching and radiation pattern. To improve 3 dB axial ratio in XY plane, the designed antenna is optimized. After optimization, the measured 3 dB axial ratio in XY plane is observed in $86{\sim}282^{\circ}$.
