  • This paper aims to examine the relationship between global competence and English learning motivation, thereby finding an effective way to strengthen learners' global competence. Data are collected from 361 freshmen studying in a compulsory English course at H University in Seoul, using a survey with five-point Likert scale. Results reveal that there is a positive relationship between global competence and all four components of English learning motivation(integrativeness, instumentality, intrinsic and external motivation). Especially the correlation between global competence and learners' integrativeness is found to be the highest. Thus, this paper proposes two applicable class activities under the assumption that strengthening integrativeness is the most effective way to promote global competence.

These days, learner-centered English education and integrative study of four linguistic functions, reading, listening, speaking and writing are considered important in the University General English class. Poetry is very effective text for the education purposes. Poetry techniques like a visual image, rhythm, rhyme, or repetition are actually mnemonics and strongly connected to the enhancement of memory and oral linguistic function. This paper suggests the specific education methods in the poetry selection, pre-reading step, reading step and after- reading step with concrete examples of "Out, Out-." These education methods through the 'oral text' can be a good and sustainable model for learner-centered education.

  • The present study aims to investigate how Korean EFL learners' views of form-focused instruction, integrated and isolated FFI (form-focused instruction), are related to their beliefs about grammar and attention and how different these relationships are between high and low proficiency levels and between males and females in Korean college contexts. The findings indicated the participants' strong preference for integrated FFI, which was significantly correlated with two factors, attention in English class and English proficiency. On the other hand, the isolated FFI was strongly correlated with their beliefs about grammar learning, that is, independent learning of grammar and importance of learning grammar rules. In conclusion, the integrated FFI was associated with students' proficiency and attention, while the isolated FFI was related to their views of grammar learning. In conclusion, it is suggested that we need to use integrated FFI in Korean EFL contexts considering students' levels of proficiency and attention.

  • The elementary school English Education Course consists of four integrated aspects of language (Listen, Speak, Read, Write) used to develop skills for daily communication in English. yet the 6th Grade English Education Curriculum focuses almost exclusively on sentence completion through copying and "fill-in-the-blank" exercises. Further, these activities are insufficient time to develop literacy skills. Additionally, the curriculum's emphasis on memorization within the written component is very time consuming for students, leading many to develop negative opinions of the written aspect of a comprehensive understanding of English. This thesis attempts to address each these problems through development of a web-based Learning Model for Cooperative Writing in English. The study resulted in three observations. First, this model overcame limitations of the current teaching model in schools. Second, students expressed more interest in the experimental model than in the current curriculum and standard pedagogical methods. Finally, the study demonstrated that improvement of English literacy is indeed possible using the model presented here.

  • This study was conducted to investigate students' perception of the integration of Chinese ethnic minority culture into the college EFL teaching which was carried out in the fall and spring semesters with different presentation topics. One and the same questionnaire was distributed to 61 participants, involving Han Chinese and Chinese ethnic minority students, at a university in ethnic minority area in China at the end of each semester, and SPSS 20.0 was used for t-test to analyze the data. The research results showed that Chinese undergraduates have got more significant improvements in cultural cognition, emotions, attitudes, and multi-cultural values in the spring semester than those in the fall semester. All participants benefit a lot from multi-cultural activities without significant differences between Han Chinese and ethnic minority students in both semesters. It is suggested that ethnic minority culture be integrated into the college EFL teaching, along with English culture and Chinese mainstream culture, which be administered as a practical teaching mode to develop students' intercultural competence.

  • In this paper, we propose the positive effects of Virtual Reality(VR) sports classes and the foundation for VR sports to become the basis of lifelong sports education through the application of physical education classes in sports virtual reality programs are to be provided. For this purpose, the effect of VR sports experience on sports satisfaction, sports immersion, and sports attitude factors was investigated for 281 elementary school students in Busan. Results It was found that VR sports experience had a significant effect on sports satisfaction, sports satisfaction had a significant effect on sports immersion and sports attitude, and sports immersion had a significant effect on sports attitude. The great advantage of sports virtual reality is that sports activities for items that are difficult to deal with in physical education classes and unpopular items will be easily performed. In addition, by using a program that links physical education classes with English and mathematics, physical education will be recognized as a convergence subject by elementary school students, and at the same time, it will become an integrated subject that can acquire fun elements and learning elements at the same time through play or games.
