This studied area is divided into the mountains and the valleys. The former is nearly consisted of the badland, the latter is consisted of alluvial plains in the valley, fluvial terrace at the side of the river, alluvial fans between mountains and river terrace. There are many tors, mushroom rocks, sugarloaves, weathering pits, castle coppies, columnar rocks, pinnacles, balanced rocks carved on tuff by means of erosion in the Chiricahua Nat'l Monument. Willcox Playa is alkalic crust where was lake in pleistocene epoch at the time wetter than present. Alkalic crust was made of Ca, Na, K etc. There are sand dunes around here where was lake side in the past. We found many kinds of fossils at the 2,000ft thick horizons of valley alluvium. Pediment and alluvium bordered at the base of Mt. Dragoon wavily. Exfoliation and spalling and sheeting resulted in boulders around here. Tucson is alluvial plain filled in thick 7,0000ft valley. Volcano, fault, erosion, alluvium were and are processing in this area.
To reinterpret the meaning of fluvial terraces in the Quaternary researches, the concepts and geomorphic properties of fluvial terraces are reviewed. Fluvial terraces are the alluvial landform that was once river channel or floodplain by paleochannel flowed in elevated areas from the current river by active incision of rivers due to the climatic changes and/or uplifts. As fluvial terraces are the remnants of alluviums after incisions of rivers, the major factors influencing on the incisions are the falling of erosion base, increase of river discharge and distinct geomorphic phenomenon of river. While it is generally known that fluvial terraces deposits in the upper or middle reaches of large rivers were formed during glacial periods, the deposits may be formed at the various periods due to the diverse natural environments and geomorphic properties of specific rivers, because there have been numerous cases that the ages of fluvial terraces in the upper or middle reaches of large rivers in Korea and China can be correlated to the interglacial periods.
The purpose of this study is to clarified the geology and geomorphic characteristics of the Hantan River Basin. In this area, some kind of landforms are developed such as pre-land forms, lava plateau, and present landforms etc. Some river terraces are peculiar features in the area. Some conclusions are as follows : The vicinity of the Hantan River is lava plateau formed from the volcanic activity. Some steptoes are located in the lava plateau. Baekeuiri formation means the river bed boulder beneath the lava formation. The development of drainage patterns are unstable and the bifurcation ratio, the ratio of mean length of the river are lower than the other rivers. The relative height of the terraces is about $5{\sim}25m$ and the terraces are alluvial terraces. In the Jiktang Fall area, bedrock is granite and basalt plateau covered the bedrock. In that point, the old erosion surface is relatively steeper than the horizontal-basalt plateau. Vertical columnar joints are developed and weathering materials creep on the valley wall. The cross section of the landform of the Kosukjung vicinities are somewhat different from the landforms of Jiktang Fall. The bedrock near the Kosukjung is granite that is the same with the Jiktang Fall. But the cross section shows a asymmetrical curve from each side.
The estimation of the Last Interglacial sea level was made by using the thalassostatic terrace which had been developed in the lower reach of Namdaechon river in Kangneung, eastern coastal area of Korea. The fluvial terraces, which have been developed since late Pleistocene, were investigated. The main findings were as follows; 1) That Kangneung terrace I had been formed in the climax period of the Last Interglacial (Oxygen isotope stage 5e) was revealed. It was estimated that Kangneung terrace II had been formed during a certain warmer period between the climax period of the Last Interglacial and the early Last Glacial(probably Oxygen isotope stage 5c or 5a). 2) Being judged from the relative heights of the Kangneung terrace I and II, the sea levels of the formation periods of these terraces were estimated to have been relatively 17~20m and l0m higher than the present sea level, respectively. 3) The formation periods of the Wangsan terrace I and II were supposed to be the early and late Last Glacial respectively, being judged from the following 3 details ; a) the characteristics of the terrace deposits, b) the relation Wangsan terrace II to the buried valley floor, and c) the cross phenomena of the above two terraces to the Kangneung terraces. 4) The formation period of the pseudogleyed red soil in the Kangneung terrace I was estimated to be the middle or late period of the Last Interglacial.
Kohyun River basin is located at southern parts of Taebaek Mountains and most of river basins consists of sedimentary rock. The aims of this study are to investigate the distribution characteristics and processes of fluvial terraces at Kohyun River, using scientific methods such as classification of fluvial landforms, analysis of geomorphological deposits, XRD and OSL age dating. In Kohyun River basin are three levels terraces from T1 to T3. Fluvial terraces are assumed to be erosional terraces according to deposited situation of alurium and existences of bedrock riverbed. From the result of OSL age dating, formation age of fluvial terrace 1(T1) is calculated about 37,000 yr.B.P.(MIS 3), and fluvial terrace 2(T2) is calculated about 113,000 yr.B.P.(MIS 5). Therefore, fluvial terraces at Kohyun River are assumed to be formed at warmer period in the glacial stages or cooler period in the interglacial stages. The incision rate of fluvial terrace 1 at Kohyun River is calculated to be 0.054m/ka, and the incision rate of fluvial terrace 2 is calculated to be 0.115m/ka. This results suggest to lower incision rate than other rivers in Korea because of low uplift rates and little discharge.

Terrace morphology is so conspicuous in the south eastern coastal areas. Coastal terraces can be divided into 5 main surfaces, including beach and coastal alluvial plain(AP, $4{\sim}5m$), Low Terrace(LT, 8 $^{\sim}$ 25m), Middle Terrace(MT, 36 $^{\sim}$ 55m), High Terrace(HT, 63 $^{\sim}$ 86m) and upper High Terrace(uHT, above 90m). Among them Lower Terrace Formation is distributed between 8m and 20m in altitude. Both Tephra deposited of LT2 formation and OSL datings of sand layers in LT 2 and LT 3 Formations support the age of the LT 2 formation is MIS 5d or 5e, most probably 5e. The age of LT 3 is interpreted MIS 5a, based on tephra production in organic mud layers and OSL dating of sand deposits just above the beach pebbles of the LT 3. Particularly the transgression, possibly equivalent to the well-known Monastirrian episode in the Mediterranean Sea.
The study area which contains the coastal terrace of the southeastern part of Korean peninsula, well developed the lineaments which are NNE, NE and WNW directions. The area crops out Cretaceous sedimentary rocks and granite porphyry, Tertiary conglomerate, tuffite and basalt and Quarternary deposits. Coastal terraces are subdivided into low, middle and upper terraces(LT, MT, UT) based on the topographic levels. Terrace gravels are deposited on these wave-cut erosional surface during the initial lowering stage of sea level fluctuation. Terrace gravels are typified by granule to pebble layers with slightly inclined beddings. These gravels are interpreted as beach gravels belonging to berm or swash zone based on the present distribution of beach gravels. The Suryum fault is characterized by the thrust which is gradationally changing the strike from ENE to NNE. The extension of the fault is about 200m and Maximum displacement is about 1.5m.
To clarify the characteristics and genesis of clayey terrace soils in Yeongnam area, macro-morphological features and soil profile development indexes were investigated with the sequential soils in Yeongcheon (inland region) and in Yeongil (coastal region). The results are summarized as follows; 1. According to the physiogaphy and landuse, the terrace soils were discernible to well drained yellowish red (5 YR) profile of higher terrace (Bancheon series), moderately well drained reddish yellow (7.5 YR) profile of middle terraces (Upyeong and Hwadong series), and lower terraces (Deogpyeong and Geugrag series) which were moderately well to imperfectly drained by paddy-fication. 2. The roundness and sphericity of the gravels contained in the terrace deposits were ranged around 0.543-0.546 and 0.723-0.722, respectively. The rounded to well rounded gravels were resemble to typical alluvial origins. 3. The amount of clay minerals formed in the soil horizons per 100g of parent materials were 50.8-30.7g while the rates of the clay leached were 30.1-7.4%, and the higher terrace had the more leaching rates. 4. The index of profile development of the terrace soils ranged from 37.95 to 22.01 and the index were positively correlated with relative elevations of the soils. The rates of clay leaching were positively correlated with the ratios of clay in the illuvial horizons to elluvial horizons. 5. A similarity was observed among cumulative grain size curves of the terrace soils, but the patterns of recalculated silt free cumulative grain size curve of terrace deposits in Upyeong soils in Yeongil area were abruptly different from down layer that suggest the soil to have bisequum profile.
The Ilgwang Fault is NNE-striking, elongated 40 Km between Ulsan and Haeundae-ku, Busan in southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula. This paper si mainly concerned about the ages of the fault activities especially in the Quaternary, inferred from classification of geomorphic surfaces and trench excavation for the construction of Singori nuclear power plant. The geomorphic surfaces are classified into Beach and the Alluvial plain, the 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace(MIS 5a), the 20 m a.s.l. Marine terrace(MIS 5e), the Reworked surface of 45 m a.s.l. Marine terrace(MIS 7 or 9) and the Low relief erosional surface. The Low relief erosional surface is distributed coastal side, the Reworked surface of 45m a.s.l. Marine terrace inland side by the Ilgwang Fault Line as the boundary line. But the former is above 10 m higher in relative height than the latter. The 20 m a.s.l. Marine terrace on the elongation line of the Ilgwang Fault reveals no dislocation. A site was trenched on the straight contact line with $N30^{\circ}E$-striking between the 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace and the 20 m a.s.l. Marine terrace. Fault line or dislocation was not observable in the trench excavation. Accordingly, the straight contact line is inferred as the ancient shore line of the 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace. The Ages of the Fault activities are inferred after the formation of the Ichonri formation - before the formation of the 45 m a.s.l. Marine terrace(220 Ka. y. B.P. or 320. Ka. y. B.P.). The Low relief erosional surface was an island above the sea-level during the formation of the 45 m a.s.l. marine terrace in the paleogeography.
