The inquiry subject of this paper is the number of convex polygons one can form by attaching the seven pieces of a tangram. This was identified by two mathematical proofs. One is by using Pick's Theorem and the other is 和々草's method, but they are difficult for elementary students because they are part of the middle school curriculum. This paper suggests new methods, by using unit area and the minimum area which can be applied at the elementary level. Development of programs for the mathematically gifted elementary students can be composed of 4 class times to see if they can prove it by using new methods. Five mathematically gifted 5th grade students, who belonged to the gifted class in an elementary school participated in this program. The research results showed that the students can justify the number of convex polygons by attaching edgewise seven pieces of tangrams.

This study examined the satisfaction of a school milk program as well as the preference of school milk and flavored milk. The subjects of this study were $4^{th}$
, $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ grade students in 4 different elementary schools, who were attending the school milk program in Ulsan. The survey was conducted from April 10, 2009 to April 30, 2009. Of the 403 questionnaires distributed, 347 responded and analyzed (usage rate: 86%). The results were as follows. Of the 347 respondents, 53.9% were boys and 46.1% were girls. 34%, 31.1% and 34.9% of the students were $4^{th}$, $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ graders, respectively. Second, 80.1% of the students reported 'have milk everyday', and 89.9% of the students reported 'have milk as it is'. Third, the overall satisfaction with the school milk program was 3.32 based on a 5-point likert scale, the 'guidance of nutrition teachers and class teacher' was 3.21 and 'taste of school milk' was 3.37. There were significant positive correlations between the school milk satisfaction variables and overall satisfaction (p<0.01). Fourth, the preference for school milk was 3.33. The preference for flavored-milk were 3.63 (coffee milk), 4.44 (chocolate milk), 4.16 (strawberry milk), 4.26 (banana milk) and 3.53 (black bean milk). Fifth, to improve the school milk program, 85.9% of students wanted a provision for flavored milk. In conclusion, schools need to find a way to increase the satisfaction of the school milk program and the preference of school milk to increase the milk intake of students. Nutrition education for students and parents should be conducted systematically and choices for various kinds of milk and milk products should be given to the students.

Today's gifted students will be tomorrow's leaders in goverment, economies, technology, sciences, and all other areas of human endeavor. these students have a right to partcipate in school programs that will help them reach their special potentions. The school have on obligation to provide flexible and effective programs for gifted. In this study is to know in broad generalities for identifying methods mathematics gifted, the instructional environment, teaching methods in the regular classroom, enrichment program contents, evaluating student and program contents.
This study conducted research on creating an environment for maker education programs for robot and SW education, development and application of maker education programs for low-grade elementary school students in farming and fishing villages. Based on the preceding maker education model, the OMCSI model was developed for the lower grade level of elementary school, and based on this, five WeDo-utilized elementary maker education programs were developed. From April 1, 2020 to October 30, 2020, the results of applying the elementary school maker education program using WeDo Robot 2.0 to 10 second graders of 10 Elementary School in Gyeongsangnam-do are as follows. The average increased by 3.40 points (t=-2.378, p=0.034) and the average increased by 3.30 points (t=-2.329, p=0.040). The average was also increased by 3.40 points (t=-2.458, p=0.038). Finally, it rose to 3.70 points (t=-2.449, p=0.037) for its reasoning ability. That is, all four sub-elements of computing thinking had a significant probability of 0.04, indicating statistical significant differences between scores of pre-post computing thinking. Therefore, the Elementary Maker Education Program using WeDo robots has worked very effectively to improve students' computing thinking skills.

The purpose of this was to present the efficient directions of nutrition education for elementary school children. We examined the problems of eating habits. nutrition knowledge, and perception and expectations on nutrition education of elementary school children in school. This study was carried out using a self-administered questionnaire and subjects were 562 elementary school children in Gyeonggi Province. All data in this research was analyzed through SAS program, and the frequency$(\%)$ and the $mean{\pm}S.D.$ on each question were calculated. Data for each group was analyzed according to sex and the difference among the groups were treated for significance by using chi-square test and Student t-test. About $87.6\%$ of the children have a meal over three times a day, and $76.7\%$ answered that they ate at a certain time regularly everyday. Only $69.6\%$ of subjects said that they ate breakfast everyday, showing very high levels of skipping breakfast. The most common frequency of eating snacks was 'once a day' in both sexes(male $52.2\%$, female $48.6\%$). In the perception on the eating habits, $69.3\%$ of children recognized problems on dieting habits, such as unbalanced diet. irregular eating time, and overeating. The perceived and correct knowledge of nutrition were $99.5\%$ and $86.9\%$, respectively. Most of the children$(99.1\%)$ acknowledged that nutrition education need to be carried out in school. And children want to deeply deal with 'cooking', 'growth and nutrition', 'good eating habits', 'nutrition and disease', These results indicated that elementary school children tended to have undesirable eating behaviors, but the rate of children who recognize the importance and the needs of nutrition education in school was high. Therefore, their parents and teachers need to perform continuous education through a curriculum and life instruction so that students have healthy habits by considering what the problems of nutrition habits are, as the elementary students considerably recognize problems of their own dietary habits and needs of nutrition education.
This study analyzed the change of after-school guardians' absence types during the first 3 school years, and the relations of after-school care, family environment(family income, parental monitoring) to self-regulatory learning ability and emotional-behavioral problems in each gender of early school-age children from dual income families. The data from 526 boys and 483 girls among 3rd graders of Korean Child and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS) were statistically analyzed by Friedman's test, t-test, correlational coefficient analysis, regression analysis. The results showed that 45% of boys and 50% of girls were with a guardian for their after-school care in each of the first 3 school years and after-school care had changed gradually into the types of temporal or contingent absence of a guardian. Family income and children's self-regulatory learning ability were different from adult-care and self-care in each gender, but there were differences in the parental monitoring of girls and emotional-behavioral problems of boys according to the care types. Both of boys and girls showed that family environment meaningfully related with the ability and the problems, and also showed the relatively different effects of after-school care and family environment on those ability and problems variables. The results suggested some implications for after-school care.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of school safety education for children to increase their safety behavior. Method: The participants were 262 fourth graders enrolled in S elementary school located in Anyang city. The participants were randomly assigned to three groups. For the first experimental group, school safety education was provided for both children and parents. For the second experimental group, safety education was provided only for the children. For the control group, no treatment was given. Result: The first experimental group showed the highest increment on the classroom safety activities score. The first experimental group also had the highest increment on the outside-the-classroom safety activities score. Further, the first experimental group showed the highest increment on the traffic safety activities score. Conclusion: Safety education in the elementary school is very effective to ensure children are protected from school and traffic accidents. Also safety education can be more effective if safety related parent education programs are provided to parents. Therefore safety education should be provided systematically for both children and their parents to prevent childhood accidents.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship among children's perception of parenting style, their social anxiety, aggression, and school adjustment. A total of 267 children(male 117, female 150) and 10 homeroom teachers participated. Each child completed questionnaires on perception of parenting style, and social anxiety. Children's aggression and school adjustment was measured by their homeroom teachers' reports. The results of the structural equation model showed that children's perception of parenting style high in rejection and control significantly influenced aggression as well as school adjustment, but didn't influence social anxiety. Both parenting style high in rejection and control and aggression had significant effect on school adjustment. Our results showed that parenting style high in rejection and control directly influenced school adjustment, and mediated by their aggression.

This is one of the basic research for inspecting the possibility of the development of logical thinking capability to make possible formal thinking. The 5th grade students (n=306) in the elementary school were participated in this study. Performing the 6 variable-controlling activities in the 'Thinking Science' program for one semester, the SRT II test and the Variable-Controlling test were operated to examine the effects on the development of the variable-controlling ability by treatments, gender, and cognitive levels. Performing of the variable-controlling activities was highly successive on the development of students' variable-controlling ability. Although learning effect on the ability of identifying causal variable was moderate, the abilities of controlling experimental condition, measurement of variable, and identifying result variable were significantly developed. There was statistically significant difference by gender. Girls showed better performance all the time in both groups. Boys in the experimental group were getting better gradually, so the difference by gender was somewhat decreased. Examining the variable-controlling ability by cognitive levels, students in the experimental group show significant increase in all levels, especially the students in early, mid, and mature concrete level show substantial learning effects. The results of this study implied that the variable-controlling activities in the 'Thinking Science' could be effective for learning of variable-controlling and eventually for the development of logical thinking capability to make possible formal thinking.

The purpose of this study is to analyze elementary students' conceptual metaphor forms of light through their image schema of light. The participants were 162 $6^{th}$ grade students from G city, Gyeongsangnam-do. For this study, the analysis framework was developed as image schema analysis and systemic functional grammar analysis. Then, students' metaphorical expressions of light concepts were analyzed by the framework(image schema analysis and systemic functional grammar analysis). The findings are as follows. First, in the understanding of source of light, students had two structures of light. (a)Light comes out from a light source and goes straight in space. (b)Light is dispersed around a light source. Second, in the understanding of the process to see a material, students had five structures including scientific concept as light came out from a light source approaches the material and reflects off the material, then the light goes into the person's eyes. Third, in the understanding of reflection of light, students had four structures including scientific concept as light came out from a light source approaches the mirror and is reflected from the mirror.
