Since arithmetic is the foundation of school mathematics, it needs to be taught meaningfully in the direction of improving arithmetical thinking levels of students beyond the fluency of computing skills. Therefore, in this study, the arithmetical thinking levels of 100 students in 5th grade were analyzed by applying the arithmetical thinking level test. As a result, 82 students were at 1st level and 15 students were at 2nd level of the arithmetical thinking. I analyzed the characteristics of arithmetical thinking and types of errors and misconceptions made by the students, and derived some didactical implications for arithmetic education in elementary school mathematics.

This study was to examine the factors that affect the oral health knowledge of elementary school students. This study surveyed a comparative study of the students and guardians' oral health knowledge among the elementary schools operating or not operating school dental clinic program in Jeollanamdo. The subjects were 178 elementary school students and guardian, structured questionnaires were performed during the period from May 2 to May 26, 2014. As a result, non-operated school dental clinic program had a negative effect on Oral health knowledge of students, but it was not significant. The factors associated with student's oral health knowledge turned out to be oral heath education experience of guardian, oral health education participation of student, self-reported oral health of student. In conclusion, student's oral health knowledge was influenced by student's and guardian's oral health-related behaviors, oral health status of student.

Illustrations and letters are two components of school textbooks. In the case of low grades of elementary school, textbook's illustrations play an important role in learning because many parts of curriculums(lessons) are represented by the visual forms through illustrations. So elementary mathematics textbook's illustrations have to make clear mathematical concepts and principles by visual simplification and bring out of the interest and motivation of elementary school students' learning. In this paper, we analysed the external and content aspects of textbook's illustrations, focusing on the textbook of the second grade. We investigated number, kindness, size, ratio, and clearness of illustrations in regard to external aspects. On the aspects of content, we analysed the role of illustrations and the degree of agreement with contents. Also we classified types of error in the textbook's illustrations and presented examples of errors which was found.

The purpose of this study was to examine how children's and parent's self-esteem relates to children's career maturity. Furthermore, this study explored how their influences would differ depending on gender. Data from 302 elementary school students in grades 4, 5, and 6 who participated in the 10th year survey (2015) were analyzed to verify structural relationships including multi-group path analysis by gender. Results were as follows: First, children's self-esteem (${\beta}=.519$, p<.001) statistically significant positive influences their career maturity as well as their father's (${\beta}=.247$, p<.01). However, mother's self-esteem (${\beta}=-.086$, p>.05) did not have a significant influence on their children's self-esteem. Second, the results of the multi-group path analysis showed that there was no gender differences among relationships. This study showed the importance of providing educational and counseling support to increase children's and father's self-esteem.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of bone age on physique and physical fitness in elementary school students. For this purpose, the structural equation model test was conducted based on the three-year longitudinal study. The results were as follows. First, bone age in boys and girls (1st~3rd grade) has a direct effect on the change of body size, but it does not affect the change of physical strength. Second, the bone age of the senior male students(4~6 grade) gave a direct effect on the change of physique, 50m running, and sit-up. On the other hand, it gave an indirect effect on push-ups, sitting basketball throws, and standing long jump. Third, the bone age of the female students(grades 4~6) affected directly on body size change, sit-up, side step and indirect effect on 50m running, half squat jump, and standing long jump. These results indicated that the evaluation of the bone age of the subjects should be included in the exercise ability evaluation items for the male and female students in elementary school over the fourth grade in relation to the myofunction.

요즘 과학, 수학 교과 등은 기초 교육 강조는 물론 창의성 교육에까지 관심을 가지고 있다. 7차 교육과정의 등장과 사회의 변화 흐름을 통해 '창의성'이 강조되고 있고, 교육에서도 창의성 교육이 대두되고 있다. 그러나 우리나라의 컴퓨터 교육 현황을 살펴보면 창의성과는 거리가 멀 뿐만 아니라, 다른 교과를 배우는데 도움을 주는 교과로서의 역할만을 하고 있다. 또한 컴퓨터 활용 교육이 이루어짐에 따라 저학년에서 고학년까지 유사한 내용의 교육을 반복해서 받는 경우가 생기고, 특히 5, 6학년은 실과 시간과 재량 시간의 교육 내용이 서로 중복되어 교육 효율이 떨어지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 교육의 기초를 다지는 시기인 초등학교에서부터 창의적인 컴퓨터 교육이 이루어질 수 있도록 하고자 하며 이를 위해 초등학교 수준에 맞는 프로그래밍 관련 교육을 살펴보고, 초등 컴퓨터 창의성 향상 교육을 뒷받침할 수 있는 프로그래밍 관련 교재 개발 방안을 제안한다.

Considering precedent studies in which research subjects are mainly confined to secondary school students or higher grade students of elementary schools, we can notice that there has been implicit agreement that instruction of mathematical modeling is quite difficult to lower grade students of elementary schools. Compared to this tendency, this study aims to examine the possibility of instruction of mathematical modeling for all of school ages, and more specifically, the applicability of mathematical modeling tasks to lower graders. To do this, we developed a mathematical modeling task proper to cognitive characteristics of lower graders and applied this task to the second graders. Based on the research results by lesson observation and the teacher's reflection, some didactical suggestions were induced for teaching the lower grade elementary school students mathematical modeling.

This study aims to provide basic data for the development of educational programs for effective gender equality education in elementary schools by confirming the consciousness of gender equality in the 5th and 6th graders of elementary school. In this study, 5th and 6th graders attending three elementary schools located in G and A cities explained the research and collected data using questionnaires from 190 people who wished to participate in the research. Frequency analysis and percentage were used for general characteristics of subjects, and t-test and ANOVA were used for differences in gender equality awareness according to subjects' sex, grade, and number of siblings. Consciousness of gender equality showed an average of 3.47 points out of 4, with an average of 3.51 points in the social and cultural life area, 3.49 points in the home life area, 3.47 points in the school life area, and 3.38 points in the vocation life area. Various activities should be conducted to raise students' consciousness of gender equality, and families, schools, and society should jointly strive to create a gender-equal cultural climate. Future study is needed to identify the factors affecting the gender equality awareness of elementary school students.

컴퓨터와 정보통신 기술의 급속한 발달은 우리생활 전반에 많은 변화를 가져왔다. 그러나 정보통신 기술은 순기능 못지않게 많은 역기능을 가지고 있다. 이러한 정보화 사회에서 정보통신기술을 활용하여 초등학교 고학년 학생들의 성인식 향상을 살펴보고 사이버 공간에서의 음란물이나 성 폭력물에 접속하는 것을 스스로 제어할 수 있는 의식 향상을 위해 성윤리 의식 실태를 조사하였다. 그 결과를 근거로 초등학교 학생들부터 인터넷을 통한 성윤리의식을 강조하는 교육이 이루어져야 하겠다.

Purpose: The purposes of the study were to develop and test a model which explains the relationship among factors affecting behavioral problems in elementary school children. Methods: The participants for the study were 368 elementary school children and their mothers at 3 elementary schools in one city. Data analysis was done using the SPSS 17.0 program for t-test, -test, and ANOVA and the AMOS 17.0 program for theoretical model testing. Results: The theoretical model showed a significant goodness of fit to the empirical data (Goodness of Fit Index: .96, Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index: .93 Comparative Fit Index: .95, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation: .06, Standardized Root Mean Square Residual: .02). Six paths were found to be statistically significant including from child rearing attitude to self-esteem, stress, stress coping and behavioral problems, and from self-esteem to stress and behavioral problems. Child rearing attitude showed a significant effect to behavioral problems by total effect. Self-esteem affected behavioral problems by total and direct effects. Conclusion: Child rearing attitude and selfesteem of children are important factors affecting behavioral problems in elementary school children.
