Development and Validation Study for Korean Version of Deaf Acculturation Scale (한국판 농인 문화적응 척도 개발 및 타당화 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and validate Korean version of Deaf Acculturation Scales(DAS). Pilot items were made a faithful translation of the Acculturation Scales of Maxwell-McCaw and Zea (2011) and were modified for Korean Deaf people. The Scale involves two dimensions, in order to measure the acculturation of Deaf people; Deaf acculturation and hearing acculturation. Using factor analysis, we developed a Korean version of DAS consisted of twenty-five items for Deaf acculturation dimension and twenty-five items for hearing acculturation dimension. These analysis supported the four factors of Deaf acculturation dimension and the five factors of hearing acculturation dimension. Reliability, assessed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, was .93 for Deaf acculturation and .93 for hearing acculturation, respectively, which confirm the Koran version of DAS. Construct validity was demonstrated through correlation with Deaf acculturation-related variables: age, age of Deafness, Degree of hearing loss, American Sign Language ability, and lip-reading ability. Criterion validity was supported by correlation with Collective Self-Esteem Scale. Limitation and implication of this study and direction for future research were discussed.

A study on the development of the children′s motivation of achievement Scale (아동용 성취동기 척도 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Our purpose is to make up criteria for children's motivation of achievement and develop them into reliable that effectively fit the domestic situations, through testing its reliability and validity. With a view to developing those criteria, questionnaire items were drawn out from our basic investigation and preliminary study, and reliability and validity were tested. For this, we carried out a survey from October 25, 2003 to November 7, 2003 on 586 children who were attending two primary schools in Seoul, in 5th and 6th grade, and analyzed the results. Out of 81 questionnaire items constructed through the preliminary study, we extracted 68 items which show satisfactory level of discrimination with $x^2$ confidence level p<.0l and V coefficient greater than .25. The factor analysis was performed on the 68 items and 49 items were extracted which have eigen value greater than 1 and factor load greater than .30. Then regression analysis was applied so that 13 items were taken out of consideration for the criteria, whose incremental contribution to the explained proportion due to regression turned out to be less than 3%. As a result, a total of 36 items were selected as the final measurement criteria was assessed by Cronbach' $\alpha$ coefficient for the items, and we obtained its value of .85 which is at a satisfactory level. The developed criteria has proven to be a useful tool for measuring domestic children's motivation of achievement.

A Study of Validity of Attitudes to Aging Questionnaire(AAQ) for Korean Elderly (노화태도척도(AAQ)의 한국 노인 적용을 위한 타당성 연구)

  • This study aims to validate the Attitudes to Aging Questionnaire(AAQ), which was recently developed in foreign countries, for Korean elderly. Using a sample of 320 older individuals living in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong areas, statistical analyses including item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, convergent validity analysis were attempted to AAQ which composed of three factors with 24 items. In result, the three factor model of AAQ(including psychosocial loss, physical change, and psychological growth) were reconstructed in which new three factors(psychological loss, social loss, and change and growth in body and mind) were confirmed and three items were deleted. Reliability and convergent validity of AAQ-21 were confirmed. AAQ-21 would be useful to researchers and practitioners working with older adults for systematically assessing the attitudes to aging of older individuals and thus contribute to development of social policies and welfare programs for the elderly.

The Validation of Pre-service Teacher Efficacy Scale for Preschool Teachers (예비유아교사 교사효능감 척도(PS-TES) 타당화)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was a teacher efficacy scale for pre-service teacher and to examine the reliability and validity of the scale. Methods: Participants for this study were 428 pre-service teachers from G region. the data were analyzed using correlation, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Results: The pre-service teacher efficacy scale was consisted of 3 factors, 'efficacy for instructional strategies', 'efficacy for student engagement' and 'efficacy for classroom management' with 12 items. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was ranged from .72 to .82. The confirmatory factor analysis revealed that CMIN/DF = 1.59, RMSEA = .05, SRMR = .05, TLI = .96, CFI = .97. Conclusion/Implications: In conclusion, all these results show that the pre-service teacher efficacy scale is quite a reliability and validity.

Development of a Korean Version of the Levels of Emotional Awareness Scale(LEAS-K) (한국판 감정자각 수준 척도의 개발)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop a Korean version of the Levels of Emotional Awareness Scale(LEAS-K) and to examine its validity and reliability. Methods: LEAS-K was developed from translating original LEAS into Korean. The subjects were 476 Korean medical students(322 males and 154 females). The internal consistency was evaluated with the Cronbach's alpha coefficients and 40 protocols were independently scored by two raters to confirm interrater reliability. Additionally, a Korean version of 20-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale(TAS-20K), Korean versions of the Openness to Experience Inventory(OE), the Marlowe-Crowne Scale (MCS), the Bendig short form of the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale(TMAS) and the Emotional Expressivity Scale(EES) were rated to evaluate concurrent validity. Results: The internal consistency measured by Cronbach's alpha was 0.81 and interrater reliability was high{r(40)=0.99}. Correlation coefficients for concurrent validity were nonsignificant with TMAS and EES. LEAS-K correlated significantly with TAS-20K{r(476)=-0.10, p<0.05}, OE {r(476)=0.10, p<0.05} and MCS {r(476)=0.10, p<0.05}. Conclusion: LEAS-K was demonstrated to have high reliability and validity.

  • The purpose of present study was to develop the Korean Version of Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery for Children(LNNB-C), to examine the reliability of it, and to establish the norms for determining the probability of brain damage. The normative group used to standardize the Korean version of LNNB-C was composed of 147 children between the age of 8 and 12(body 74, girl 73). The clinical group consisted of 19 brain damaged, 16 ADHD, and 16 psychiatric controls. The inter-scorer reliability was 96.3%, indicating that the stability of the scoring system for the Korean version of LNNB-C is good. The reliability coefficients(Cronbach's ${\alpha}$) of LNNB-C scales were ranged .51 to .91, which are similar to those of original LNNB-C. To establish the norms for detecting brain damage, the means and standard deviations for normative group were used to calculate T-scores for each scale. To determine a critical level that could successfully predict a normal child's average score at a given age, first the average score of normative group was calculated, and this score was then entered a regression equation with age to predict the average(baseline) acore. Finally, some issues on constructing the Korean version of LNNB-C and the cultural differences between Korean and American children in performing LNNB-C were discussed.

Development and Validation of Corporate Philanthropy Scale : focusing on the guidelines of ISO26000 (기업사회공헌활동 측정을 위한 척도개발 및 타당화 : ISO26000의 지침을 중심으로)

  • This study aims to develop the corporate philanthropy scale focusing on the guidelines of ISO26000 and to test its reliability and validity. For the purpose of this study, author conducted focus group interview, individually interview, consult and pilot test in order to clarify description and relevance of scale items. To test reliability and validation of scale, 94 staffs in charge of the corporate philanthropy work in the companies were surveyed as research subjects. The results of the explanatory factor analysis on scale found the six factor structure and 27 items. The construct validity and discriminant validity were confirmed through the confirmatory factor analysis. The reliability of the scale also remained at a high level. Based on these results, implications for corporate philanthropy was suggested.

Development of Academic Resilience Scale for Gifted Youth (영재 청소년의 학업탄력성 척도 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop academic resilience scale for gifted youth. We extracted the pilot questionnaire of 101 items from open-ended questions with 178 scientifically gifted students and literature review. Item analysis and exploratory factor analysis were also carried out with data of 240 gifted youth. Finally, 11 factors from which 42 items were extracted and validated through the confirmatory factor analysis involving 444 gifted youth throughout the nation. The names of the extracted factors were sense of purpose, self-understanding, educational aspirations, academic self-regulation, task commitment, attribution for success (ability), attribution for success (effort), the interpersonal relationship (friend), the interpersonal relationship (parent), the interpersonal relationship(teacher), and optimism. The results show that all of the path coefficient and construct reliability, AVE (Average Variance Extracted), and coefficient of determination were all acceptable. The result of the study indicated that Academic Resilience Scale for Gifted Youth was positively and significantly correlated with School Adaptation Scale and Resilience Scale. However it was negatively correlated with Academic Burnout Scale, and it was statistically significant. Thus, Academic Resilience Scale for Gifted Youth demonstrated satisfactory internal validity and external validity. The results of the present study suggests theoretical and practical implications of the newly developed Academic Resilience Scale for Gifted Youth.

  • 현대 산업현장에서 80%이상 사용되는 PID(proportional integral derivative) 제어기는 제어성, 적응성, 제어이득 조정 등의 특정이 있어나 제어 대상에 대한 PID 제어 계수를 경험적 방법인 수동으로 동조해야하는 문제점이 있다. 이를 개선하기 위해 본 논문에서 PID제어기의 최적 자동동조를 위한 릴레이 동조 방법을 제안한다. 기존의 한계감도법과 과도응답 법으로 초기계수를 결정하는 방법보다 유연성과 적용성이 높고, 이를 마이크로프로세서(DSP : TMS-320C32)에 적용하여 소프트웨어적으로 릴레이의 기능이 이루어지도록 설계했다. 이는 Ziegler-Nichols 계수조정법이 갖는 적용대상의 제약성을 극복한 방법이며, 릴레이에 의해 출력을 강제 진동시키고 출력의 진폭과 주기를 이용하여 PID 계수를 조정하고, 또 상대안정성의 척도인 위상여유를 고려하므로 시스템의 상대안정성과 견실성을 향상시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Evaluation on validity of health literacy measurement scale (의료정보이해능력 측정도구 척도의 타당성 평가)

  • As evaluating the health literacy is getting important, various measures for evaluation are being developed. Nevertheless, discussions about developing proper measures in Korean are still inactive. Therefore in this paper, we proposed Korean REALM (rapid estimate of adult literacy in medicine) measure that is composed of five point scale and investigated about its validity. As a result, we could find that Korean REALM measure which is composed of five point scale has high reliability, and that it formed one dimension as a result of factor analysis. Positive responses were lower than two point scale and correlation coefficient with NVS (the newest vital sign) appeared statistically significant. Therefore, we could conclude that Korean REALM measure that is composed of five point scale is a valid measurement. Furthermore, there were statistically significant differences between general students and department of nursing students about health literacy.
