  • The purpose of this study was to develop 'Appropriate Technology' theme STEAM Program for the elementary students and investigate the effects of the program on creative thinking activity, scientific attitude and leadership. Participants were 3grade 85 elementary school students. Before and after the program, the participants were asked to take the tests about creative thinking activity, scientific attitude and leadership. The major results of this study were as follows. First, the total score of experimental group's creative thinking activity and all 4 sub-domains was significantly improved than those of comparative group(p<.05). Second, the total score of experimental groups' scientific attitude was significantly improved than that of comparative group(p<.05). Among 7 sub-domains, curiosity, voluntariness, perseverance were significantly developed. Third, total score of experimental groups' leadership was significantly increased than that of comparative group after the STEAM program (p<.05). In the first factor, the score of inner and inter personal characteristics were significantly developed.

  • This research aims at executing a after reading activity using book trailers for the teenagers, and verifying its effects. For the investigation into its effectiveness, 6 classes on the first grade in a middle school were divided into 3 classes of an experimental group (104 students) and the other 3 classes of a comparative group (100 students), and a preliminary and a post test were conducted using the measurement tool on creativity and reading attitudes. As the result, the creativity, reading attitudes and understanding of the selected books of the experimental group were found to be better than those of the comparative group.

  • We studied what kind of science-contents problems can also give information on one's creativity for use in the selection of scientifically gifted. 383 7th and 8th graders as subjects, we first analyzed the corelation between the results of creative thinking, scientific attitude, science inquiry, logical thinking and the scientific creativity problem solving skill test. The corelation analysis indicated that science inquiry test could represent other tests except TTCT. We then tested 532 6th graders with TTCT and science inquiry tests concomitantly with the contents- related problems made in such types as naming 20 scientists, writing about a scientist, imagination to overcome a problem, understanding of theory and application and understanding of science laws and application. The results indicated that writing and imagination were most efficient in assessing both the contents and the creativity.

  • Supported by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, this research explored the potentiality of the use of hands-on robots in elementary school curriculum. On the basis of the analysis of prior research, we defined the meaning and the characteristics of hands-on robots. The priority was given to the development of lesson plans in attempting to activate the use of robots in elementary school curriculum. Also considering the difficulties faced in schools and the characteristics of robot-based instruction, we classified hands-on robots according to the shape and the goal of use.

  • In this study, a block-base coding that could develop computing thinking was applied to Earth science teaching and learning to identify how the perception of computational thinking and scientific attitude was changed as part of creativity education. Based on the results of the study, the conclusions are as follows: First, an Earth science education program was developed using a block-based coding for elementary school students. The 12-hour program was designed for inquiry activities to encourage students to engage in various thinking by providing them with activity-oriented problems. Second, the Earth science education program using a block-based coding showed significant results in confidence in the use of a computer program, integrated learning with a computer, computational thinking, and problem-solving factors with computational thinking. Third, the Earth science education program using block-based coding showed significant differences in the categories of curiosity, criticism, cooperation, persistence, and creativity. It could be judged that it was effective for students in the process of questioning and trying to solve the problem themselves.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of SSC(Small-Scale Chemistry) lab program applying to scientifically gifted students' classes. The participants were 15 the middle school scientifically gifted students selected and enrolled in science-gifted education center of university. SSC lab program was applied for 3 month with 5 topics. The research design was one group pretest-posttest design, the data were analyzed using the PASW 18 statistics program. The results of this study were as follows: First, the scientific attitude of scientifically gifted students was improved significantly(p<.01) after applying SSC lab program. Especially, there were significant difference between pre-test and post-test in the scores of cooperativity, spontaneity, perseverance, which were the sub-region of scientific attitude. Second, the creative personality characteristics of scientifically gifted students showed statistically significant improvements(p<.01) after applying SSC lab program. Especially, there was significant difference between pre-test and post-test in the scores of adhesion, which was a sub-region of the creative personality characteristics. Third, there were no significant differences in the science inquiry skills between before and after applying the SSC lab program in the scientifically gifted students' classes(p>.05). The results suggest that SSC Lab program is an effective program in scientifically gifted students' classes.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the effects of utilizing educational game content for science learning on science-related attitudes. The content was applied to 24 students in an after-school science club at an elementary school in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province followed by a pre and posttest analysis using the Attitude About the Relevance of Science Test and the Creative Personality Test. This study used Tino's Journey, which was developed by the Korea Creative Content Agency and is currently distributed for free through the Ministry of Education to develop nine lessons that include scientific scenarios and concepts presented in the game. The results demonstrated that science lessons utilizing educational game content significantly influenced the science-related attitudes of the students. Among the subdomains, enjoyment of science lessons increased the most followed by the attitude toward scientific inquiry, social meaning of science, and hobby of science. However, the commonness of scientists, acceptance of scientific attitudes, and career in science did not reveal significant differences. This study classified the students into two groups (i.e., high and low, n=12 each) using the Creative Personality Test in advance. This study performed covariate analysis with the score for pre-science-related attitude as the covariate. Result revealed that the scores for science-related attitude significantly differed between the high and low groups. Specifically, the increase in the scores of the low group was larger than that of the high group. Lastly, the study presented implications for the utilization of educational game content in science learning.

  • This research looked into the recognitions of a teacher's discernment & recommendations of gifted elementary students targeting 184 elementary school teachers in Seoul district and compared and contrasted their awareness in order to confirm whether there existed a difference in the discernment of gifted elementary students according to their awareness level of professionalism in gifted and talented education. The research results are as follows: There appeared a significant difference in teachers' recognitions level of professionalism in gifted education according to their experience relevant to a gifted elementary student. The teachers, in the process of observations & nominations of gifted elementary students, pointed out creativity, learning motive and attitude as the highest judging standard and also regard such elements as discerning criteria of gifted students. In the process of observations & nominations of gifted elementary students, it was found that teachers' recognitions of importance of discerning criteria of gifted elementary students in relation to parents or fellow teachers' recommendations appeared relatively lower than their recognitions of importance in relation to learning ability, creativity, learning motive and attitude. The research results showed that a group of teachers, who have a high recognitions level of the professionalism in gifted education in the process of observations & nominations of gifted students, perceive the realm of creativity, learning motive, and attitude as more important. This suggests the necessity of elevating teachers' awareness level of professionalism in gifted and talented education in order to discern high-quality gifted students in the process observations & nominations of gifted elementary students putting emphasis on the realm of creativity, learning motive, and attitude.
