  • As Advanced Traveler Information System(ATIS) is the kernel of the Intelligent Transportation System, it is very important how to manage data from traffic information collectors on a road and have at borough grip of the travel time's change quickly and exactly for doing its part. Link travel time can be obtained by two method. One is measured by area detection systems and the other is estimated by point detection systems. Measured travel time by area detection systems has the limitation for real time information because it Is calculated by the probe which has already passed through the link. Estimated travel time by point detection systems is calculated by the data on the same time of each. section, this is, it use the characteristic of the various cars of each section to estimate travel time. For this reason, it has the difference with real travel time. In this study, Artificial Neural Networks is used for estimating link travel time concerned about the relationship with vehicle detector data and link travel time. The method of estimating link travel time are classified according to the kind of input data and the Absolute value of error between the estimated and the real are distributed within 5$\~$15minute over 90 percent with the result of testing the method using the vehicle detector data and AVI data of Namsan Tunnel $\#$1. It also reduces Time lag of the information offered time and draws late delay generation and dissolution.

  • Traffic volumes are fundamental data widely used in various traffic analysis, such as origin-and-destination establishment, total traveled kilometer distance calculation, congestion evaluation, and so on. The low number of links collecting the traffic-volume data in a large urban highway network has weakened the quality of the analyses in practice. This study proposes a method to estimate the traffic volume data on a highway link where no collection device is available by introducing a spatial statistic technique with (1) the traffic-volume data from TOPIS, and National Transport Information Center in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and (2) the navigation data from private navigation. Two different component models were prepared for the interrupted and the uninterrupted flows respectively, due to their different traffic-flow characteristics: the piecewise constant function and the regression kriging. The comparison of the traffic volumes estimated by the proposed method against the ones counted in the field showed that the level of error includes 6.26% in MAPE and 5,410 in RMSE, and thus the prediction error is 20.3% in MAPE.

  • In this paper, we analyze various cases of accidents caused by vehicle-mounted MEWPs(mobile elevated work platforms) which are most widely used for the high position level works, review the safety improvement measures for each of them, and propose basic data for the revision of related laws. The accidents by MEWPs were caused by the high level of works, which lead to fatal personnel accidents, so the measures for safety must be thoroughly carried out and the obligatory regulations by the related laws must be strictly observed. In this paper, we classify the cases of accidents at the workshop as 4 representative types and propose measures and remedies for them. According to the current regulations, it is possible to prepare for the accidents such as the wire rope breakage by switching to the all-chain drive method which does not have a daily use time limit instead of the wire rope drive method which is widely used at present. Also, it is suggested to add the daily use timetable to the nameplate attachment duty item according to the driving class.

  • International organizations such as the World Health Organization, the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation, and major developed countries recognize the seriousness of air pollution. International organizations such as the International Maritime Organization have also implemented various regulations to reduce air pollution from ships. In line with this international trend, the government has also enacted a special law on improving air quality in port areas, and is making efforts to reduce air pollution caused by ports. The purpose of the Special Act is to implement comprehensive policies to improve air quality in port areas. This study sought to identify the emissions of each source of air pollutants originating from the port and prepare basic data on setting the policy priorities. To this end, the analysis was conducted in six categories: ships, vehicles, loading and unloading equipment, railways, unloading/wild ash dust, road ash dust, and the methodology presented by the European Environment Agency(EEA) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency(EPA). The pollutants subject to analysis were analyzed for carbon monoxide(CO), nitrogen oxides (NOX), sulfur oxides(SOX), total airborne materials(TSP), particulate matter(PM10, PM2.5), and ammonia(NH3). The analysis showed a total of 7,122 tons of emissions. By substance, NOX accounted for the largest portion of 5,084 tons, followed by CO (984 tons), SOX (530 tons), and TSP (335 tons). By source of emissions, ships accounted for the largest portion with 4,107 tons, followed by vehicles with 2,622 tons, showing high emissions. This proved to be the main cause of port air pollution, with 57.6% and 36.8% of total emissions, respectively, suggesting the need for countermeasures against these sources.

  • Many countries have provided support for research and development and implemented policies for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for enhancing the safety of vehicles. With such efforts, the toll of casualties due to traffic accidents has decreased gradually. Korea has exhibited the lowest toll of casualties due to traffic accidents and is ranked 32nd in mortality among the 35 OECD members. Traffic accidents typically fall into three categories depending on the cause of the accident: vehicle to vehicle (V2V), vehicle to pedestrian (V2P), and vehicle independent. Most accidents are caused by drivers' mistakes in recognition, judgment, or operation. ADAS has been proposed to prevent and reduce accidents from such human errors. Moreover, the global automobile industry has recently been developing various safety measures, but on-road tests are still limited and contain various risks. Therefore, this study investigated the international standards for evaluation tests with regard to the assessment techniques in braking capability to cope with the limitations of on-road tests. A theoretical formula for braking force and a control algorithm are proposed, which were validated by comparing the results with those from an on-road test. These results verified the braking force depending on the functions of ADAS. The risks of on-road tests can be reduced because the proposed theoretical formula allows a prediction of the tendencies.

  • Cone penetration tests (CPTs) have been increasingly used for site characterizations. However, the site investigations using CPTs are often limited due to soil conditions depending on the cone size and capacity of the CPT system. The small sectional area of a miniature cone improves the applicability of the CPT system due to the increased capacity of the CPT system. A continuous intrusion system using a coiled rod allows fast and cost effective site investigation. In this study, the performance of the continuous intrusion miniature cone penetration test (CIMCPT) system has been evaluated by comparison tests with the standard CPT system at several construction sites in Korea. The results show that the CIMCPT system has a same performance with the CPT system and has advantages on the mobility and applicability. According to field verification tests for scale effect evaluation, the cone tip resistance evaluated by CIMCPT overestimates by 10% comparing to standard CPTs. A crawler mounted with the CIMCPT system has been implemented to improve accessibility to soft ground, and has shown improvement over the truck type CIMCPT system. Therefore, the improved CIMCPT system can be utilized as a cost effective and highly reliable soil investigation methodology to detect the depth of soft ground and to evaluate soil classification.

  • When an expressway intersects another expressway, a unique connector needs to be designed between the two consecutive exit ramps. In such a case, it is important to design a connector such that there is enough distance for drivers to find their way safely. A current design manual in Korea prescribes the minimum length of the connector as 240 m. In this research, we have suggested a method for calculating the minimum length of a connector in order to check the feasibility of the currently prescribed length. For this purpose, we have attempted to determine the total perception-reaction time and lane-changing time required by a driver. For determining the driver's perception-reaction time, we have used the driver's decision time in addition to the conventional 2.5 s of perception-reaction time for stopping sight distances. We have considered both the design speed and the average travel speed for the calculation of the length. To evaluate the accuracy of the new method, we have chosen four sites on expressways for which relatively high accident rates were recorded. As a result, we could verify that the current limit (240 m) was sufficient for drivers to be able to change lanes in the given specific geometry. However, the prescribed limit should be revised in case the drivers' decision time is considered to be their perception-reaction time. All new approaches for calculating the ideal length of a connector have been carried out by taking into account the design speed as well as the average travel speed. Owing to the characteristics of the specific geometry for two consecutive exit ramps and the large difference between the design speed and the average travel speed in the objective areas, it is more realistic to use the proposed method by keeping the decision time equal to a driver's perception-reaction time, in order to determine the ideal distance that should be maintained between two consecutive exit ramps.

  • Intelligent transportation systems allow us to have valuable opportunities for collecting reliable wide-area coverage traffic and weather data. Significant efforts have been made in many countries to apply these data. This study identifies the critical points for classifying rain intensity by analyzing the relationship between rainfall and the amount of speed reduction. Then, traffic prediction performance by rain intensity level is evaluated using relative errors. The results show that critical points are 0.4mm/5min and 0.8mm/5min for classifying rain intensity (slight, moderate, and heavy rain). The best prediction performance is observable when previous five-block speed data is used as inputs under normal weather conditions. On the other hand, previous two or three-block speed data is used as inputs under rainy weather conditions. The outcomes of this study support the development of more reliable traffic information for providing advanced traffic information service.

  • The Korea Highway Traffic Authority provides statistics that analyze the causes of traffic accidents that occurred since 2015 using the Traffic Accident Analysis System (TAAS). it was reported Through TAAS that the driver's forward carelessness was the main cause of traffic accidents in 2018. As statistics on the cause of traffic accidents, 51.2 percent used mobile phones and watched DMB while driving, 14 percent did not secure safe distance, and 3.6 percent violated their duty to protect pedestrians, representing a total of 68.8 percent. In this paper, we propose a system that has improved the advanced driver assistance system ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) by utilizing CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) among the algorithms of Deep Learning. The proposed system learns a model that classifies the movement of the driver's face and eyes using Conv2D techniques which are mainly used for Image processing, while recognizing and detecting objects around the vehicle with cameras attached to the front of the vehicle to recognize the driving environment. Then, using the learned visual steering model and driving environment data, the hazard is classified and detected in three stages, depending on the driver's view and driving environment to assist the driver with the forward and blind spots.

  • Recently due to the typhoon and extreme rainfall induced by abnormal weather and climate change, the probability of severe damage to human life and property is rapidly increasing. Thus it is necessary to create adequate and reliable flood risk map in preparation for those natural disasters. The study area is Seo-gu in Daegu which is located near Geumho river, one of the tributaries of Nakdong river. Inundation depth and velocity at each time were calculated by applying FLUMEN model to the target area of interest, Seo-gu in Daegu. And the research of creating flood risk map was conducted according to the Downstream Hazard Classification Guidelines of USBR. The 2-dimensional inundation analysis for channels and protected lowland with FLUMEN model was carried out with the basic assumption that there's no levee failure against 100 year precipatation and inflow comes only through the overflowing to the protected lowland. The occurrence of overflowing was identified at the levee of Bisan-dong located in Geumho watershed. The level of risk was displayed for house/building residents, drivers and pedestrians using information about depth and velocity of each node computed from the inundation analysis. Once inundation depth map and flood risk map for each region is created with this research method, emergency action guidelines for residents can be systemized and it would be very useful in establishing specified emergency evacuation plans in case of levee failure and overflowing resulting from a flood.
