  • Objectives: This study aimed to test whether the digital competence of dental hygienists can affect their intraoral scanning potential in terms of scan time and error. Methods: Dental hygienists and dental hygiene students who had never used an intraoral scanner were surveyed to determine their digital competence. Individual data collected using an intraoral scanner was compared with reference data collected using a model scanner to identify scanning errors, and participants' scanning times were measured. Results: A significant decrease in scanning time was observed as the overall level of digital competence increased. The increase in digital skills and digital knowledge led to a decrease in scanning time by 3.73 and 3.98 minutes, respectively. Conclusions: This study found that digital competence was associated with reduced scan times, but less so with scan errors. This may be due to recent advances in scanning software, and future studies may need to develop a digital competence assessment tool that is more appropriate for the dental field.

  • The aim of the study is to explore how to approach the inherent value of nature, which is the main object of earth science education, beyond its instrumental value, which is its external usefulness. Above all, it is said to be an activity-based inherent value in the entire transfer process of the experiment, which includes psychological elements. At the core of environmental ethics is value and the utilitarian question of what is worth continuing. It is a matter of more than simply continuation. The answer is the sustainable value of the natural environment, an education that must preserve its beauty as an inherent value, that is, as a heritage value as a lover of life. Furthermore, the area of valuation must be upgraded from synchronic to diachronic ethical values, with sustainable values instead of intrinsic values. In environmental ethics, the intrinsic value that shows the beauty of knowledge itself is called bequest value. The study distinguished between a priori intrinsic value that ignores existing experience and intrinsic value that is experience-oriented and activity-oriented. In addition, the intrinsic value principle centered on activities was explored through scientific experiments in earth science education and Eratosthenes's earth size measurement experiment. The value principle according to the scientific worldview serves as the basis for value judgment. Above all, intrinsic value was being revealed through the active value experience of the experiment, in which aesthetic values were involved in the process of inferring the experiment results. As an educational implication, it should be value-education that helps us internally transfer intrinsic values rather than instrumental values, which are the basis for creating a sustainable society and nature.

  • Summative assessment provides information on how well students have achieved learning objectives, making the development of high-quality assessment items essential for accurate evaluation. This is one of the competencies that teachers must possess. This study aims to analyze summative assessment items created by pre-service elementary teachers, examining their intentions and the difficulties encountered in the item development process. The study involved 45 second-year students enrolled in an elementary teacher training university. They were grouped into teams of three and tasked with developing ten items, documenting the purpose of each item, the answer key, and the challenges faced during item creation. The collected summative assessment items were analyzed using a two-dimensional purpose classification table that includes Klopfer's taxonomy of educational objectives. The intentions behind the summative assessments and the difficulties faced during item development were inductively organized and analyzed through qualitative data analysis. The results revealed that pre-service elementary teachers adequately reflected scientific content elements but did not evenly cover assessment domains. The most challenging aspect for them was adjusting the difficulty level. Although they considered most factors that should be taken into account during item development, these considerations were not reflected in the actual items. These findings suggest that knowledge and experience are crucial in developing summative assessment items, and systematic lectures are necessary for pre-service elementary teachers.

  • This study aims to examine the cognitive and affective changes in university students' writing self-efficacy when engaging in reflective writing classes utilizing ChatGPT. Over ten sessions, reflective writing classes using ChatGPT were conducted for students enrolled in a mandatory writing course at S University in Gyeonggi Province. The reflective journals written by the students during these sessions were meticulously reviewed as qualitative data with statistical analysis of pre- and post-surveys on writing self-efficacy. The results confirmed that utilizing ChatGPT in reflective writing classes positively impacted students' writing self-efficacy. Participants showed increased interest and confidence in their writing abilities when using ChatGPT. It was reported that they received cognitive assistance in outlining and paragraph structuring from samples generated by ChatGPT. Although survey results showed an overall increase in writing self-efficacy, the only statistically significant change was in the 'plagiarism response' category, which means a clear awareness of plagiarism issues. The process of personalizing the ChatGPT-generated samples requires consistent practice, and systematic guidelines on using such helpful tool effectively should be reinforced as a future task.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate pre-parenthood education program(PPEP) based on Home Economics(HE) subject for high school students. The development and evaluation of PPEP based on HE subject in this study followed ADDIE model except implementation through 4 processes such as analysis, design, development, and evaluation. First, program development directions were set in three aspects such as 'general development', 'contents', and 'teaching and learning methods'. Themes of the program are 11 in total such as '1. Parenting, what is being a parent', '2. Choosing your spouse, happy marital relationship, the best gift to your children', '3. Pregnancy and birth, a moving meeting with a new life', '4. Taking care of a new born infant for 24 hours', '5. Taking care of infants, relationship with my lovely baby, attachment', '6. Taking care of young children, my child from another planet', '7. Parents and children in healthy family', '8. Parent-child relationship, wise parents to make effective interaction with their children', '9. Parents safety manager at home,', '10. Practice to take care of infants', and '11. Practice of community nurturing support service development'. In particular, learning activities of the program have major characteristics such as 1) utilization of cases including practice problems related to parenting, 2) community exchange activities utilizing learned knowledge and techniques, 3) actual life project activities utilizing learning contents related with parenting, 4) activities inducing positive changes in current life of high school students, and 5) practice activities for the necessities of life such as food, clothing and shelter supporting development of children. Second, the program was developed according to the design. Teaching-learning plans and materials for 17 classes were developed according to 11 themes. The developed plans include class flow and teacher's reference. It starts with receiving a class-related message from a virtual child at the introduction stage and ended with replying to the message by summarizing contents of the class and making a promise as a parent-to-be. That is the basic frame of class flow. Learning materials included various plans and reports necessary for learning activities and they are prepared in details so that they can be play the role of textbooks in regular curriculum. Third, evaluation of developed program was executed by a 5 point Likert scale survey on 13 HE experts on two aspects of program development process and program development results. • In order to adapt ourselves to the Informationalization Society of twenty-first century, it is required to have ability to find quickly the necessary information and solve the problem of our own. In the field of school, it should be educated to develop learner's ability that can cope with the Informationalization Society. When a learner can study in such direction, he or she will be able to plan the learning of his own as the subject of education, and develop his ability to solve the problem by collecting and examining various information. It is self-leading learning that can make education like this possible. Through computer, especially Web site, self-directed learning can develop can develop the individuality and creativity of learners. They can collect and utilize autonomously information and knowledge. To do such an education, the program that can work out self-directed learning is needed. Therefore the program I want to develop is to reconstruct the 'figure' part of mathematics in elementary school into five steps by utilizing Web site. In the first step is to learn the concept of various shape. This step enable learners to know what figure is and how it can be utilized in our real life. The second step of dot, line and angle makes it possible that learners can consolidate the foundation of the study about figure and recognize the relation between angle and figure. In the third step of plane figure, we can study how to calculate the relation of plane figures and the area of figure with various shapes by cutting and adding them. The fourth step is about congruence and symmetry. Learners can learn to know the figure in congruence, reduction and enlargement and how it is used in our real life. In the fifth step of solid figure, we can learn the relation among the plane figure, solid figure, the body of revolution, corn and pyramid etc. controling the speed of learning on the basis of his ability. In the process of the program, it is also possible to develop learner's ability of self-leading learning by solving the problem by himself. Because this program is progressed on the Web site, it is possible to learn anytime and anywhere. In addition to it, a learner can learn beyond the grade as well as do the perfect learning by controling the pace of learning on the basis of his ability. In the process of the program, it is also possible to develop learner's ability of self-leading learning by solving the problem by himself.

  • Mathematical ability is important for academic achievement and technological renovations in the STEM disciplines. This study concentrated on the relationship between neural basis of mathematical cognition and its mechanisms. These cognitive functions include domain specific abilities such as numerical skills and visuospatial abilities, as well as domain general abilities which include language, long term memory, and working memory capacity. Individuals can perform higher cognitive functions such as abstract thinking and reasoning based on these basic cognitive functions. The next topic covered in this study is about individual differences in mathematical abilities. Neural efficiency theory was incorporated in this study to view mathematical talent. According to the theory, a person with mathematical talent uses his or her brain more efficiently than the effortful endeavour of the average human being. Mathematically gifted students show different brain activities when compared to average students. Interhemispheric and intrahemispheric connectivities are enhanced in those students, particularly in the right brain along fronto-parietal longitudinal fasciculus. The third topic deals with growth and development in mathematical capacity. As individuals mature, practice mathematical skills, and gain knowledge, such changes are reflected in cortical activation, which include changes in the activation level, redistribution, and reorganization in the supporting cortex. Among these, reorganization can be related to neural plasticity. Neural plasticity was observed in professional mathematicians and children with mathematical learning disabilities. Last topic is about mathematical creativity viewed from Neural Darwinism. When the brain is faced with a novel problem, it needs to collect all of the necessary concepts(knowledge) from long term memory, make multitudes of connections, and test which ones have the highest probability in helping solve the unusual problem. Having followed the above brain modifying steps, once the brain finally finds the correct response to the novel problem, the final response comes as a form of inspiration. For a novice, the first step of acquisition of knowledge structure is the most important. However, as expertise increases, the latter two stages of making connections and selection become more important.
