A Study on Retailers' Recognition about Commercial Power Altering Due to Urban Regeneration Project : Case of Changwon Urban Regeneration Priority Project (도시재생사업에 따른 상인들의 상권 변화 인식에 관한 연구 : 창원시 도시재생 선도사업 사례)

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze local retailers' recognition of commercial power altered by urban regeneration. For the purpose of this study, analysis is performed on pilot urban regeneration priority projects implemented in the city of Changwon. Although regeneration of commercial districts directly affect the local retailers therein, little research has been carried out to examine how they recognize such changes. This study, therefore, identifies those factors that have influence on the recognition of local retailers who would be aware of the alteration of their commercial power more immediately than others do. Using an ordered logit model, empirical analysis on two pilot projects for Odong-dong and Chang-dong indicates that retailers in Odong-dong are more likely to have a negative recognition toward the altered business areas. For the both districts, recognition of business area alterations is affected with statistical significance by how long they have run their shops, how many employees they hire, and whether they believe that the urban regeneration has resulted in gentrification. For each of the mentioned district, recognition in Odong-dong is significantly impacted by the number of employees and recognized rent changes, while in Chang-dong, the age of retailers and the perceived presence of gentrification have statistically significant influence. Issues found by this study need to be addressed prior to the upcoming 'Urban Regeneration New Deal Project', which then will bring satisfaction to each and every local residents including those retailers.

A Study on Relationship Between Violation of Environmental Regulations and Firm's Characteristics (기업특성과 환경규제 위반의 관계 연구)

  • The purposes of this paper are analysed the relationship between environmental regulation and financial performance in Korea. The financial performance of listed companies and Outside Auditing firms was evaluated by logistic regression. First, R&D investment is proportionally correlated with the ability to comply with environmental regulations. It can be explained increase of investment in R&D causes enhancement of compliance of environmental regulations with development of environmental technology. Second, statistical significance is not observed between financial aspects such as current ratio, debt-to-equity ratio, cash flow, and operating profit margin and the ability to comply with environmental regulations. It indicates high financial performance could not directly lead investment for the ability of that. Third, in terms of structural aspects, firm size and employees have a reliable correlation with compliance with environmental regulations due to high attention of larger firms for PR, and IR, while capital intensity and gravity, and exports do not. Finally, violation of environmental regulations is not affect by the controlling shareholder ownership.

An Empirical Study on Factors Affecting Organizational Survival of Entertainment Corporations (조직생존요인에 관한 실증분석 : 엔터테인먼트 기업을 대상으로)

  • Korea's entertainment industry laid its foundation in the early 2000s when global popularity of South Korean soap operas increased in Japan. K-pop has been recently leading the popularity in China. However, many Korean entertainment businesses are dying out. This study reviews factors influencing business survival for 42 chosen corporations listed in the Korea Stock Exchange based on organizational ecology. When all of the variables are analyzed at the same time, long period of public offering and high wages and global sales ratio positively affect business survival. When the individual variables are separately analyzed, long period of public offering and CEO incumbency and high wages and global sales ratio positively affect business survival. Meanwhile, size of businesses do not affect the survival. The results of this study imply that policies to help businesses list an entertainment corporation in the Korea Stock Exchange, increase sales and reciprocity with other culture are needed. Laws and institutions for evaluating intangible asset value should be improved. The results also suggest that a corporation should carefully consider change of CEO and make the best use of the popularity of Korean culture to increase global sales and pay competitive wages to attract professionals.

  • The view of social responsibility activities from the pioneer studies found that most research is mainly limited to the corporate social responsibility activities. The related studies on the individual level are very few. Therefore, it is very necessary to make a clearer and more systematic empirical research for the global companies whose employees are directly involved in the companies' social responsibility activities. In order to find the relationship between variables, we collected data from chinese employee of Korean firms which located in China. The result of empirical test is as follows; First, the social responsibility activities of the individual level have a significant positive effect on the employees' job satisfaction and organization inputs. In other words, social responsibility activities could improve the employee's job satisfaction and organization inputs. Second, innovative organizational culture of South Korean companies has a significant positive effect on the individual level social responsibility activities. Third, transformational leadership of the CEO in South Korean have no effect on personal level social responsibility activities. Fourth, the CEO'S ethical values have great positive effect on personal level of social responsibility activities. Through the analysis we can see, in the process of global corporate implicating social responsibility activities, the CEO'S ethical values are more important than the transformational leadership of the CEO. Finally, in the relationship between the employees' personal ethical values and personal social responsibility activities, the employees' personal ethical values in South Korean companies have great positive effect on the personal level social responsibility activities.

  • This paper's purposes is to study the effects of the strategic support of top management, the activities of quality management, the quality-oriented culture and the organizational citizenship behavior on business performance for Start-ups. In order to settle quality management activitiesa successfully in start-up companies, Concern and support of Top manangement for the quality is important. Although Top management's commitment to a strong, According to the employee's attitude, the quality performance of company may be much different. the quality performance of company that acceptace attitude for quality management is excellent will increase. And business performance will be affected positively. Also when the company has any problems with the quality, the employee's will trying to solve the problem voluntarily is the important factor for business performance. Through this study, the following statistically significant conclusions were drawn. First, If top management supports the resource strategically for the activation of the quality management, The quality and business performance of start-ups will be improved. Second, If the quality management is activated, The quality and business performance of start-ups will be improved. Third, if quality-oriented culture is matured, the quality and business performance of start-ups will be improved. Fourth, if the level of organizational citizenship behavior is getting higher, the quality performance of start-ups will be improved. Fifth, the quality performance has a mediation effect on the relationship between the quality management and business performance. So when strategic support of Top management, quality management, quality-orented culture and OCB are activated in the organization, the quality performance will be higher than before, so that the business performance will be higher too. To improve the quality performance and business performance in start ups, It is needed to understand the quality management in organization, to implement the quality management constantly. And top management should supports the resource strategically and the employee has to do his best to form quality-oriented culture in the company.

Relationships among Psychological Capital, Job Attitude and Service Climate in Hotel Corporations (호텔기업에서 심리적 자본, 직무태도 및 서비스 풍토의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to research the relationships among psychological capital, job attitude, and service climate of employees in hotel corporations. Psychological capital has been demonstrated to be important for performance at both individual and group levels of analyses. In addition psychological capital has been shown to provide additive value to more established measures of employee's positive job attitudes. To accomplish this study, it was determined that the analysis derived from a hypothesis and literature reviews and data collected from 295 employees in hotel corporations. The results of empirical analysis showed as follows. First, Psychological capital has a significant effect on job satisfaction. Second, Psychological capital has a significant effect on organizational commitment. Third, Service climate was also found to have moderating effect upon the relationship between psychological capital and job satisfaction. Based on these findings, the implications and limitations of the study were presented including some directions for future studies.

Organizational commitment and organizational creativity: The moderating effect of training motivation (정서적 몰입과 조직 창의성의 관계: 학습동기의 조절효과)

  • For sustainable management under uncertainty, organizations should explore factors influencing organizational creativity. This research examined affective commitment as the factor expected to increase organizational creativity. Clarifying the relationship between affective commitment and organizational creativity, we consider training motivation as a moderator. The participants in this empirical study were 472 employees and 64 firms' CEO to confirm hypotheses that training motivation make strengthen the positive relationship between affective commitment and organizational creativity. Results showed that organizational creativity was associated with affective commitment. Moreover, there was a moderating effect of training motivation on the relationship between organizational commitment and organizational creativity. This study attempted to avoid common method bias by using different sources such as CEO's response and employees' response. The implications for future research are discussed, including exploring the mechanism of organizational creativity and practice.

The Role of Absorptive Capacity in Technological Collaboration of SMEs (중소기업의 기술협력에서 흡수역량의 역할)

  • Technological innovation is one of critical challenges for small and medium enterprises(SMEs) as well as larger firms. This study focuses on empirical test about the role of absorptive capacity on the relationship between technological collaboration and technological innovation outcomes in the context of SMEs. To achieve the purpose, we conducted hierarchical regression analysis through 266 samples from Korean manufacturing SMEs that is defined as an enterprise less than 300 employees. As a result, more diverse exploitations for types of technological collaboration have significant and positive impact on technological innovation outcomes. Additionally, the results show that absorptive capacity based on knowledge realization capability strengthens the impact on which external sources and types of technological collaboration affect technological innovation outcomes. Based on the results, we propose that SMEs require intense management efforts in establishing capability to create new knowledges, by combining existing knowledges, because excessive exploitations for external sources of technological collaboration necessarily do not help enhance technological innovation outcomes.

  • Many researchers have been explored job satisfaction in various context. Nevertheless, there are no empirical researches on the advertising designers's job satisfaction in Korea. This research is an exploratory examination regarding Korean advertising designers's organizational behaviour. In general, job satisfaction is determined by two major factors; personal and organizational factor. This research shows that korean advertising designers's job satisfaction is mainly determined by the organizational factor such as payment and promotion. Promotion was particularly significant amongst them and recognition also proved to be influential. Synthetically, the determining factors of advertising designers's job satisfaction consists of several predictors such as payment, promotion, and human relationships. This result may gives an assumption that the agencies have not provided designers with specialized evaluation system reflecting designers' job characteristics. Thesis concludes that agencies need to set a new evaluation and payment systems in order to elevate designers' job satisfaction in organization.

  • This study holds various implications and usefulness toward nurses as well as hospitals in that the study empirically found out the relations among hospitals' ethical climates, employee engagement (job engagement and organizational engagement) and intention to quit. The study shows that nurses' awareness of principles of responsibilities and benevolent ethical climates impact on enhancing organizational engagement and lowering intention to quit. Internally, employees are encouraged to make decisions accompanying fairness and responsibility and thus, shared values will be created between hospitals and nurses, while it will contribute to create a good image of the hospital to the public. However, it is also revealed that climates deficient in ethics, such as a climate of selfishness, have strong negative influences on workplace attitude of nurses. Therefore, recognizing importance and effectiveness of ethical climates, hospitals should underscore personal ethics of managers and nurses, and should go further to exert strategic efforts on the organizational level to create ethical hospital climates where nurses can naturally take ethical actions.
