  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aging on visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and emotional perception bias. We used the useful field of view (UFOV) task to measure the visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and the emotional perception task to measure positive and negative emotional perception bias. A total of 48 participants took part in this study with 23 participants in the senior group and 25 in the junior group. The senior group showed slower response time and lower accuracy than the junior group in the UFOV task, indicating that the senior group had lower visuo-spatial attention allocation ability than the junior group. In the emotional perception task, the senior group showed both positive and negative emotional perception bias more than the junior group. The correlation analysis showed that the negative emotional perception bias for accuracy in the emotional perception task showed a positive correlation with the response time to the stimuli presented in the visual angle 30° in the UFOV task (r=.289). In addition, positive emotional perception bias for the accuracy in the emotional perception task showed a positive correlation with the accuracy of the stimuli presented in the visual angles 10°, 20°, and 30° in the UFOV task (r=.305, r=.322, and r=.299, respectively). However, it showed a negative correlation with the response time of the stimuli presented in the same location in the UFOV task (r=-.345, r=-.295, r=-.308). These results suggest that aging is associated with a decrease in the visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and perceptual bias toward positive and negative emotions. In addition, the positive and negative emotional perception biases associated with aging are potentially related to the reduced visuo-spatial attention allocation ability.

To this end, research was conducted with 330 parents of infants aged 1 and 2 in 55 day care centers located in J city and I city, Jeollabukdo. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural model equation analysis were conducted using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. First, the results of the structural model equation analysis showed that the infant's temperament had a negative correlation with leisure and guidance, while it had a positive correlation with activity and impulsivity, which are external manifestations of their social and emotional behavior. Father's involvement in child-rearing had a negative correlation with the adaptability and mood aspects of the child's temperament, and also with general anxiety, an internal aspect of his or her social and emotional behavior. Social and emotional behavior had a positive correlation with the approach avoidance aspect of the infant's temperament. Second, according to the results of the analysis of the route between the variables, infant temperament was found to be a significant route, having a statistically negative correlation with father's involvement in child-rearing. The results of this study showed that infant's temperament and father's involvement in child-rearing had effects on the infant's social and emotional behavior, and suggested the importance of having a proper understanding of the educational implications of the father's involvement in child-rearing, in terms of its effects on the infant's social and emotional behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships among the older drivers' subjective evaluation and objective performances for driving ability, mobility and subjective well-being. Scores for mobility and subjective well-being were obtained using questionnaires. Diagram-based driving scenarios and driving simulation were used to measure subjective and objective driving abilities, respectively. The results can be summarized as followings. First, subjective evaluation scores of driving ability but not objective driving performance significantly correlated with mobility. Second, the higher level of mobility predicted higher life satisfaction, higher positive affectivity, and lower negative affectivity. Third, the older driver's higher scores of subjective driving ability induced higher level of mobility, which, in turn, increased life satisfaction and positive affectivity but lower negative affectivity. The results suggested that subjective rather than objective ability for driving is more important in determining the level of old driver's subjective well-being.

  • The purpose of this study was to validate the Korean version of RESPECT-Music, which measures personal, social and cultural function of music, and to examine the correlation between the measured RESPECT data and the data measured from other scales for emotions. A survey was conducted with two separate groups of undergraduate students. Exploratory factor analysis with sample A (N=212) and confirmatory factor analysis and correlation analyses with sample B (N=296) were conducted. The result of exploratory factor analysis generated 10 factors as influential factors in music use, which was the similar results to the original scale: background, values, focus, dancing, family bonding, cultural identity, political attitudes, venting, emotional expression and social bonding. In the confirmatory factor analysis, this 35-item measurement was found to obtain adequate internal consistency and reliability. In addition, the correlations were found with other scales measuring emotional adjustment. Specifically, RESPECT showed a positive correlation with scales for positive affect, reappraisal, negative mood regulation and repair. Among the generated factors as music function, dancing was highly correlated with emotional adjustment, while political attitudes was negatively correlated with emotional adjustment. The results indicate that music use in our everyday lives is intercorrelated with the intrapersonal and interpersonal motives and emotional adjustment, while the function of music that influences cultural identity was not associated with the level of emotional adjustment. Implications for future studies were also suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of subordinates' emotional labor on job burnout and job engagement, and verify whether job crafting moderates the relationships between emotional labor and job related attitudes. A total of 301 employees working at various companies in Korea participated in an on-line survey and the data were examined by statistical analysis. The results showed that surface acting positively affected job burnout. It was found that deep acting positively affected job engagement, while negatively affecting job burnout. The results also demonstrated that job crafting moderated the relationship between surface acting and job engagement. It is suggested that employees' proactive behaviors designed to relieve the stress of work can mitigate the negative effect of emotional behavior. On the basis of the results, the implications and future research directions were discussed.

The purpose of this research is to offer basic data for establishing both amoral and emotional educational program. The subjects of this research involve 182 children(either 4 or 5 year olds) that have lived in Korea. Analysis of the collected data have yielded some interesting results. First, it is found that children's empathy and sympathy are dependent on children's age and their fathers' educational level; as a result, increasing the age of the children and their fathers' educational level are found to increase empathy and sympathy. Secondly, both empathy and sympathy scores are found to have correlation to the scores of positive reciprocity, capability, and interpersonal relation on social competence. Sympathy scores increase with respect to the leadership scores of social competence. Lastly, children's empathy is a factor that affects positive reciprocity, capability, interpersonal relation, and participation on social competence. Their sympathy affects leadership on social competence. The results of this study suggest that strengthening the empathy and sympathy levels of children could partially enhance their social competence.
