  • While the use of battery-powered embedded systems has been rapidly increasing, the current level of battery technology has not kept up with the drastic increase in power consumption by the system. In order to prolong system usage time, the battery size needs to be increased. The amounts of power consumption by embedded systems are determined by their hardware configuration and software for manipulating hardware resources. In spite of that, the hardware provides features for lowering power consumption, if those cannot be utilized efficiently by software including operating system, reduction in power consumption is not optimized. In this paper, we propose a BET(Break Even Time)-based scheduling method using task partition to reduce power consumption of multimedia applications in a mobile embedded system environment.

A low powered handover scheme for the green base station of cellular networks (셀룰러 망에서 그린 기지국을 위한 저전력 핸드오버 방안)

  • Heterogeneous cellular networks support various wireless environments for mobile service. Recently, data services as well as voice services are exponentially increased in cellular networks and the technical transition of LTE-A and IEEE 802.16m so that more base stations are requested to provide suitable service. Base stations consume most of energy in cellular networks, and the energy saving is needed for the base station. In this paper, we propose a saving power scheme by the dynamic energy management. In this paper we consider the simulation evaluations of handover for the low powered base station.

Sensing Model for Reducing Power Consumption for Indoor/Outdoor Context Transition (실내/실외 컨텍스트 전이를 고려한 저전력 센싱 모델)

  • With the spread of smartphones containing multiple on-board sensors, the market for context aware applications have grown. However, due to the limited power capacity of a smartphone, users feel discontented QoS. Additionally, context aware applications require the utilization of many forms of context and sensing information. If context transition has occurred, types of needed sensors must be changed and each sensor modules need to turn on/off. In addition, excessive sensing has been found when the context decision is ambiguous. In this paper, we focus on power consumption associated with the context transition that occurs during indoor/outdoor detection, modeling the activities of the sensor associated with these contexts. And we suggest a freezing algorithm that reduces power consumption in context transition. We experiment with a commercial application that service is indoor/outdoor location tracking, measure power consumption in context transition with and without the utilization of the proposed method. We find that proposed method reduces power consumption about 20% during context transition.

공정현장 적응능력 평가를 위한 드라이펌프의 실시간 특성분석

  • 최근 반도체 산업의 급속한 발전으로 반도체 생산 설비 시설 또한 꾸준히 증설되어가는 추세이다. 이에 따라 반도체 산업의 핵심기술로 부각되고 있는 진공 기술은 다양한 응용목적을 위한 진공시스템 설계와 운영을 필요로 한다. 진공시스템의 알맞은 설계는 시스템 구성에 따른 진공특성을 예측하는 것이 중요하며 목적에 부합한 진공펌프를 선택하고 운영하여 최소비용으로 시스템 활용효율성을 극대화할 수 있는 설계를 해야 한다. 또한 공정의 저전력, 대유량화 추세에 따라 고유량 영역의 드라이펌프 부하 내구성 대응 요구에 부응하는 객관적 내구성평가의 정립 및 표준 측정 시험평가 방법의 필요성이 점차 대두되고 있는 경향에 있다. 본 연구에서는 드라이펌프의 공정현장 적응능력 평가를 위하여 최소 1시간에서 3시간동안 압력별 가스부하에 따른 드라이펌프의 실시간 특성을 관찰하였다. 실험은 1 mbar에서 최대 300 mbar까지의 연속적인 부하 조건에서 유량, 진동, 소음, 소비전력과 Sudden Vent Test를 실시간으로 측정하였고 드라이펌프의 특성 분석은 각 용량별 압력에 따른 유량, DP BP 소비전력, 소음, 진동, DP Body Temperature 등의 데이터를 Type에 따라 비교 분석하였다. 이에 부응하는 평가 장치 구축 및 데이터분석은 한국표준과학연구원 진공펌프 평가실험실에서 수행되었다.

A New State Assignment Technique for Testing and Low Power (테스팅 및 저진력을 고려한 상태할당 기술 개발)

  • The state assignment for a finite state machine greatly affects the delay, area, power dissipation, and testabilities of the sequential circuits. In order to improve the testabilities and power consumption, a new state assignment technique based on m-block partition is introduced in this paper. The algorithm minimizes the dependencies between groups of state variables are minimized and reduces switching activity by grouping the states depending on the state transition probability. In the sequel the length and number of feedback cycles are reduced with minimal switching activity on the state variables. Experiment shows significant improvement in testabilities and Power dissipation for benchmark circuits.

  • Herein, a 94-GHz low-noise amplifier (LNA) using the 65-nm CMOS process is presented. The LNA is composed of a four-stage differential common-source amplifier and impedance matching is accomplished with transformers. The fabricated LNA chip shows a peak gain of 25 dB at 94 GHz and has a 3-dB bandwidth at 5.5 GHz. The chip consumes 46 mW of DC power from a 1.2-V supply, and the total chip area, including the pads, is $0.3mm^2$.

  • A low-voltage active CMOS inductor approach, which can improve the quality-factor(Q), is proposed in this paper. A low-voltage active inductor circuit topology with a feedback resistance is proposed, which can substantially improve its equivalent inductance and quality-factor(Q). This proposed low-voltage active inductor with a feedback resistance was simulated by ADS(Agilent) using 0.18um standard CMOS technology. Simulation showed that the designed active inductor had a maximum quality-factor(Q) of 3000 with a 1.5nH inductance at 4GHz

  • 본 논문은 서로 다른 두 구조의 캐쉬와 새로운 뱅크선별기를 이용하여, 보다 효율적인 뱅크관리 메커니즘을 응용한 새로운 개념의 캐쉬 구조에 대한 설명을 한다. 크기가 작음에도 불구하고, 낮은 접근 실패율(Miss ratio)와 높은 저전력 효과는 기존의 일반적인 직접사상 캐쉬와 비교했을 때, 성능면에서 월등한 차이를 나타내고 있다. 이러한 결과의 원인은 직접사상 캐쉬와 완전연관 버퍼의 최적화된 구성과. 효과적인 뱅크선별기를 사용하여 적은 전력에도 높은 성능을 발휘하는 새로운 메커니즘을 사용하였기 때문이다. 제안한 구조의 성능은 다양한 크기의 직접사상 캐쉬와 비교하였으며, 접근 실패율, 평균 메모리 접근 시간, 전력소비, Energy * Delay Product 등 모두 4가지의 지표를 사용하였다.

A Study on Development of Independent Low Power IoT Sensor Module for Zero Energy Buildings (제로 에너지 건축물을 위한 자립형 저전력 IoT 센서 모듈 개발에 대한 연구)

  • The energy consumed by buildings among the total national energy consumption is more than 10% of the total. For this reason, Korea has adopted the zero energy building policy since 2025, and research on the energy saving technology of buildings has been demanded. Analysis of buildings' energy consumption patterns shows that lighting, heating and cooling energy account for more than 60% of total energy consumption, which is directly related to solar power acquisition and window opening and closing operation. In this paper, we have developed a low - power IoT sensor module for window system to transfer acquired information to building energy management system. This module transmits the external environment and window opening / closing status information to the building energy management system in real time, and constructs the network to actively take energy saving measures. The power used in the module is designed as an independent power source using solar power among the harvest energy. The topology of the power supply is a Buck converter, which is charged at 4V to the lithium ion battery through MPPT control, and the efficiency is about 85.87%. Communication is configured to be able to transmit in real time by applying WiFi. In order to reduce the power consumption of the module, we analyzed the hardware and software aspects and implemented a low power IoT sensor module.

그린라운드(GR)와 에너지 문제

  • GR을 목전에 둔 지금, 한가이 그 추이를 지켜 보고만 있을 것이 아니라 추진해야할 과제를 주의깊게 선정하여 미리부터 실천해 나가지 않으면 안될 때이다. 그중 간과되기 쉬운 몇가지 중요한 점들을 지적하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, GR의 본질이 에너지 협상(Energy Round)인 것에 관한 일반국민과 관계전문가의 인식제고가 시급하다. 둘째, 국내산업의 에너지 소비구조를 엄밀히 분석하여 예방적 차원에서 효율개선 및 환경보호 조치를 해나가야 한다. 평균소비형, 저소비형과 같이 나눌때 각 산업군별로 적절한 정책적 대안과제를 만들어 시행에 옮겨가야 한다. 셋째, 국내 에너지 넷트웍을 분석하여 환경규제의 영향을 종합분석하여야 한다. UR은 우리나라 농업부문에 특히 심각한 영향을 미쳤지만 GR은 대상범위가 훨씬 광범위하다. 마지막으로, 전력부문에 미칠 GR의 영향은 반드시 종합에너지 차원, 그리고 국민경제 전체를 포괄한 차원에서 평가되어야 한다. 환경설비로 인한 전력가격의 상승은 각종 기업비용 상승으로 연결되고 물가수준 및 GNP에 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 더 나아가 수출주도형인 우리의 산업경제구조가 가진 국제경쟁력에도 심각한 영향을 미친다.
