Identification of three pathways for p-cresol catabolism and their gene expression in Pseudomonas alkylphenolica KL28 (Pseudomonas alkylphenolica KL28에 존재하는 3종류의 p-cresol 분해 경로 및 유전자 발현)

  • Previously our laboratory showed that Pseudomonas alkylphenolica KL28 possesses two different lap and pcu gene clusters for p-cresol catabolism. In this study, additional gene cluster (pchACXF-pcaHG-orf4-pcaBC) has been identified to encode enzymes necessary for catabolism of p-cresol to ${\beta}$-carboxy-cis,cis-muconate. This gene cluster showed almost identical nucleotide sequence homologies to those in the plasmid of Pseudomonas putida NCIMB 9866 and 9869, British origins, indicating the possibility of a horizontal gene transfer. Through mutagenesis of each gene cluster and gfp-based promoter reporter assays, it has been shown that the three gene clusters are functionally operated and pch genes are induced by p-cresol. Furthermore, the pcu gene cluster of the three was shown to be dominantly expressed in utilization of p-cresol. Mutation of the pcu gene was defective in aerial structure formation under p-cresol vapor, indicating the utilization rate of carbon source is one of key elements for the multicellular development of this strain.

Complex Formation of 1,15-Diaza-3,4:12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-trioxacycloheptadecane with Some Transition Metal Ions (전이금속이온과 1,15-Diaza-3,4:12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-trioxacycloheptadecane과의 착물형성)

  • The stability constants of 1,15-diaza-3,4:12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-trioxacycloheptadecane (NenOdien H$_4$, L) with transition metal ions such as $Co^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Cu^{2+},\;and\;Zn^{2+}$ have been determined by potentiometry in 95% methanol solution at 25$^{\circ}$C. The complex formation of the NenOdien $_4$ with the transition metal ions depends on the basicity of the donor atoms. The order of complex stability was Co(II) < Ni(II) < Cu(II) > Zn(II). The geometries of the complexes in solid state were discussed by visible-near infrared and infrared spectrophotometry, elemental analysis and electro-conductivity. The results suggest that the geometries of the solid complexes are octahedral for $[CoL_2(OH_2)Cl]Cl{\cdot}2H_2O$, $[NiL_2(OH_2)Cl]Cl{\cdot}2H_2O$, and $[ZnLCl_2]{\cdot}\frac{1}{2}H_2O$ and square pyramidal for [CuLCl]Cl, respectively.

Is Mispricing in Asset Prices Due to the Inflation Illusion? (자산가격의 오류는 인플레이션의 착각 때문인가?)

  • We examine whether the observed negative relations between stock returns and inflation and between housing returns and inflation can be explained by the inflation illusion hypothesis. We identify the mispricing component in asset prices (i.e., stock prices and housing prices) based on present value models, linear and loglinear models, and we then investigate whether inflation can explain the mispricing component using the data from three countries (the U.S., the U.K., and Korea). When we take into account the potential asymmetric effect of positive and negative inflation on the mispricing components in asset prices, which is an important implication of the inflation illusion hypothesis, we find little evidence for the inflation illusion hypothesis in that both positive and negative inflation rates do not have a negative effect on the mispricing components. Instead, we find that behavioral factors such as consumer sentiments contribute to the mispricing of asset prices.

  • Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) is a concept emerging rapidly as a theoretical and methodological framework to shape science for better society, instead of merely for economic growth. While the responsibility of science usually means ethics of researchers in the process of research, RRI extends the concept of the responsibility by claiming that researchers should be responsible for the purpose and outcome of research as well. In addition, RRI proposes four interconnected concepts of anticipation, reflectivity, deliberativeness/inclusiveness, and responsibility as a methodological framework to achieve these tasks. However, RRI is not merely a theoretical concept but has been already practiced at many levels in real world. We discuss how RRI has been practiced and played important roles in reflecting on research and innovation policies in the past and guiding new policies by examining two research projects, STIR and SPICE, and three national R&D programs, EPSRC's embracement of RRI in the Britain, MVI in the Netherlands, and R&D for social problem-solving in Korea.

  • Friction stir welding was first reported by TWI(The Welding Institute) in 1991, and this welding method has been rapidly used in various industrial areas such railway, automobile, aerospace and shipbuilding industry. Here, we study core characteristics of friction stir welding (FSW) applied to Al 6005-T6 extruded sheets, which is the typical alloy used for railway car bodies. With the fixed welding speed of 500 mm/min, the rotating tool speed was varied from 600 to 1800 RPM. The results of hardness measurement revealed that the hardness of nugget area is ~70% with respect to the parent material, and for the selected range of rotation speed, no clear dependence was observed and the hardness values close to the parent materials were achieved for the area located 5 mm away from the welding interface. The tension test shows that yield strength and tensile strength were slightly decreased with increasing RPM, with no observed difference for the elongation.

A Study on the Growth Analysis of Pinus koraiensis Seedings under Various Relative Light Intensities and Planting Densities (잣나무 묘목(苗木)의 생육환경(生育環境) 요인(要因)에 따른 생장해석적(生長解析的) 연구(硏究))

  • For the improvement of nursery condition and the study of eco-physiological characteristics of Pinus koraiensis(2-2) seedlings, the primary productivity was investigated and the growth characteristics and their correlationship were analyzed from May to September in 1987. Seedlings used in this study were grown at the nursery of Experimental Forestry of Kyung Hee Univ. The installation of experimental plots were divided into control plot (100%), 63%, 37% and 19% relative light intensity, and each relative light intensity plots were split into $15{\times}15/m^2$, $12{\times}12/m^2$, $9{\times}9/m^2$ and $6{\times}6/m^2$ plnting density by randomized black design method. To take into account the edge effect of plant population, material were selected from each plot by random sampling at 30 days interval. Each sampled material was divided into leaf and stem drived in a drying oven at the temperature of $85^{\circ}C$ until it had constant weight and weighed. and leaf area was surveyed. Growth analysis for RGR and NAR was done by Blackman method and correlation coefficient were investigated between RGR and NAR by analyzing the dry matter production and growth characteristics of the material, cultivated on the experimental nursery under the condition of different treatment the obtained result were as follows : 1. The increasing rate of dry matter was similar at early stage of growth, but not at late stage. 2. Leaf area growth was the maximum value at 63% relative light intensity and the minimum at 19% RLI 3. The value of RGR was the highest on June under $6{\times}6/m^2$ planting density in 63% relative light intensity, the lowest on September under $12{\times}12/m^2$ of 19% relative light intensity. 4. The change NAR decreased in early stage of growth, while it increased on August and September, The value of RGR on June under $6{\times}6/m^2$ planting density in 100 light intensity was the highest, and on September under $12{\times}12/m^2$ planting density in 19% relative light intensity was the lowest. 5. Regression and correlation between RGR and NAR showed significantly positive.

  • Bone cells produce multiple growth factors and cytokines that have effects on bone metabolism and can be incorporated into the bone matrix. The present study was designed to extend these observations by examining the interactions between transforming growth factor-$\beta$(TGF-$\beta$) or interleukin-$1\beta$(rhIL-$1\beta$) and bone cells in a rat long bone culture model. IL-$1\beta$ regulates several activities of the osteoblast cells derived from rat long bone explants in vitro. IL-$1\beta$ stimulated cellular proliferation as well as the synthesis of prostaglandin $E_2$ and Plasminogen activator activity in the cultured cells in a dose-dependent manner. TGF-$\beta$ is present in the bone matrix and potentially released during bone resorption. TGF-$\beta$ reduced basal bone resorption and inhibited vitamin $D_3[1,25(OH)_2D_3]$-induced bone resorption in rat long bone cells. These results support the role of IL-$1\beta$ in the pathological modulation of bone cell metabolism, with regard to implication in the Pathogenesis of osteoporosis by IL-$1\beta$, and that TGF-$\beta$ positively inhibits the bone resorption.

Effects of Harvesting Time on Growth and Root Yield in Astragalus membranaceus Bunge (황기의 수확시기(收穫時期)가 생육(生育)과 근(根) 수양(收量)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the growth characteristics and root yield with different harvesting times in Astragalus membranaceus. The growth of stem diameter. number of nodes. number of branches and dry weight of top plant were not affected in late harvesting time compare to early harvesting time. but stem height was increased by harvesting time. Otherwise root growth were effected by harvesting time in one and two years old plant. So, root length, weight of dry root and dry root yield were the most excellent until reached up to harvesting of 10th November. The content of methanol extract was not different between one and two years old plant, but that of different harvesting time was the most by harvesting time in mid November. It was suggested that the optimal harvesting time seems to be in mid November rather than in mid or late October.

  • 물 수요예측을 실시함에 있어서 사회 경제의 장래동향과 도시의 특성 및 발전 동향을 반영하여 수행하여야 한다. 그러나 지금까지의 관행으로는 수도계획에서 사용할 수 있는 실사용량에 대한 조사와 통계가 이루어지지 않고 있다. 실제 현장에서 얻은 자료를 토대로 하여 수도계획 및 설계에 사용할 수 있는 신뢰성 있는 설계인자의 도출이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 급수지역의 각 조사 가정의 물 사용량을 실측 조사하여 얻어진 자료를 토대로 하여 물 수요 구조의 변화를 파악할 수 있는 수단의 하나로 가정의 수돗물 사용특성과 경제적 요인에 따른 가정용수의 사용특성 경향을 파악하고자 하였다. 가정에서 사용된 용수량의 조건별 경향성을 분석하기 위하여 한국수자원공사에서 2002년부터 2006년까지 3년여에 걸쳐 표본 집단이 되는 전국 140개 가구에 유량계를 설치하여 유량 자료를 획득하였고, 설문조사를 실시하여 각 가정의 물 사용 특성인자들을 조사하였다. 이 자료를 대상으로 비교적 자료의 신뢰성을 높이기 위한 자료의 선별과정을 거쳤다. 이렇게 선별된 자료들을 경향성 분석에 쓰이는 Mann-Kendall test와 Spearman's Rho test를 이용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과를 바탕으로 가정 용수 소비패턴의 증가 감소에 영향을 끼치는 인자들을 추출하였다. 실측자료를 분석을 통하여 나타난 결과들을 바탕으로 용수 수요처의 조건별 특성을 분석하고, 이를 활용한 생활용수 예측모형을 개발함으로써 합리적인 수요예측에 의한 용수수요의 과다예측 우려를 해소하고, 경제적 수도시설계획을 수립하는 등 과학적 물 수요관리 정책 수립을 위한 의사결정도구가 제공될 수 있다.c}$C의 저온에서 저장한 감자는 $20^{\circ}$C에서 저장한 감자보다 발아의 지연과 함께 낮은 PGA증가율을 보였다.다 높았으며, 전반적인 선호도의 경우 G3(1.5%)를 가장 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 백년초 분말 첨가 도토리묵의 경우 색상은 0.5% 첨가한 O1이 가장 높은 값을 나타냈으며, 외관은 1.5% 첨가한 O3가 가장 높은 값을 보였다. 향미와 신맛의 경우는 백년초 분말의 첨가량이 증가됨에 따라서 유의적으로 증가했다(p<0.001). 씹힘성, 탄력성, 견고성의 경우는 대조군이 가장 높았으며, 백년초 분말 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 유의적으로 낮아졌다(p<0.001), 떫은맛의 경우는 백년초 분말에 의한 신맛의 영향으로 1% 백년초 분말이 첨가된 O2 가장 높게 나타났다. 전반적인 선호도는 0.5% 백년초 분말이 첨가된 O1이 가장 높게 나타났다. 따라서 녹차와 백년초의 기능성을 살린 도토리묵을 실용화시키는 효과적인 배합비는 녹차 분말 1.5% 첨가와 백년초 분말 첨가 0.5%가 바람직한 것으로 보이며 백년초 분말은 1%까지도 가능한 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 기능성 식품 소재로써 도토리묵에 녹차와 백년초 분말을 첨가하는 것은 충분히 활용할만한 가치가 있다고 사료된다.론적으로, 비육돈 사료 내 3.32%의 호맥 사일리지의 혼합급여는 혈액 내 코티졸 함량, 도체육의 명도와 황색도, 지방산 조성 및 영양소 소화율에 영향을 미치는 것으로 사료되나 이에 대한 보다 많은 연구가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.니티와 공원과의 관계로 공원 설계와 관리에 있어서 영국에서는 커뮤니티가 직접 고객(client)으로서 역

  • The job creation is one of the important issue from the public and private sector. For the job opportunity, the private sector would contribute to create plentiful opportunities for job-seekers. Especially, foreign donor countries has fostered the development consulting firm in the private sector with the legal and institutional support. As the result, it has played the important role to create the job opportunity for whoever want to find the way in the international development cooperation. However, South Korea does not yet make the environment as much as foreign donor countries. Hence, this study aims to analyze the case on fostering the development consulting firm in the international development cooperation to draw the political implication for South Korea. With this, the result of the study is significant to rebuild the index on the impact evaluation of the employment that is fit to the international development cooperation. Thus, foreign donor countries suggests that fostering the development consulting firms in the international development cooperation should be based on the political and institutional support, tied network, and sustainable supply of human resources. Indeed, the improvement of the index on the impact evaluation of the employment would contribute to correctly measure the impact from the development consulting firm in the private sector.
