The purpose of the present study was to examine how 25~36-month-old toddlers' temperament, mother's rearing attitude, teacher interaction relates to their language abilities and to analyze the predictive power of these variables in predicting language ability. The subjects were 206 toddlers, 206 mothers and 38 class teachers at child care center in G metropolitan city. The collected data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis on SPSS program. The results of this study were as follow. First, there was a significant relationship between mother's rearing attitude, teacher interaction and toddlers language abilities. However, toddlers' temperament showed no significant correlations with toddlers language abilities. Second, teacher's positive attitude was the best predictor of toddlers language abilities. Toddlers' reactivity and mother's rational guidance were also predictors of toddlers' language abilities.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristic of the linguistic interaction according to leadership type of the leader in the scientific inquiry activity groups and examine how leadership factors affect the linguistic interaction within a group. In this investigation, leaders among 12 elementary school students were chosen by considering results of the leadership diagnosis that tested 3 leadership factors: vision and promotion, assignment responsibility, and decision-making. The members of the groups were organized according to scientific inquiry ability and academic achievement; the groups were assigned to perform scientific inquiry activities. The linguistic interaction was largely divided into the cognitive domain and the affective domain for analysis. According to the results, the frequency of linguistic interaction within a group sorted by leadership type is more influenced by the cognitive domain than the affective domain. The highest frequency of linguistic interaction appeared within the group that had vision and promotion type leader. Assumedly, the vision and confidence of the vision and promotion type leader produced such an outcome. While solving the assignments, linguistic interaction in all three groups had more cognitive domain than affected domain. Linguistic interaction in cognitive domain displayed only low level of linguistic interaction in relation to the experiment itself: high level of linguistic interaction barely occurred. In the case of affected domain, active participation appeared more frequently than maintaining the mood: Interactions related to restricting the group members actions to solve the assignment appeared more frequently than those for maintaining the mood.
The purpose of this study is to perform of composition of young children teacher's verbal interactions and problem solving strategies by semantic network analysis. The data was collected the narrative of teacher in young children's environmental education. Additionally, this study used categories as a unit of analysis in order to find out structural characteristics. The results of this study were as follows. First, teacher's verbal interactions, providing information was the most cental, high influence appeared along with integration. Second, teacher's problem solving strategies, suggestion was the most cental, high influence appeared along with divergent thinking. Third, teacher's verbal interactions and problem solving strategies, suggestion was the most cental, providing information and divergent thinking appeared a strong connection. Besides, suggestion and decision were mediated by concern of problem, assessment appeared connection. Through these results from this study it is suggested that in order to interact and support problem solving process in young children's environmental education, teacher education to respond and understand contextually with young children is necessary.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of reflective thinking on verbal interaction of the pre-service teachers in elementary science classes. Two pre-service teachers were selected for this study and they respectively had gave three science classes. Every science class was recorded by using video/audio but only audio data of first and last science classes were transcribed for verbal interaction analysis. The result of this study revealed that the frequency of teacher's verbal interaction in last science class was increased rather than the case of first science class. The increasing patterns of interaction frequency were affected by the teacher's viewpoint and preparation for the science class. Teacher's verbal interactions were divided into low-level and high-level for the analysis of qualitative change. Low-level interactions are which leading students' convergent thinking, high-level interactions are which leading students' divergent thinking. Also the result of this study revealed that high-level interactions in last science class were increased rather than in first class. On the other hand, low-level interactions in last class were reduced rather than in first class. Therefore, this results implied that the effects of reflective thinking on verbal interaction of pre-service teachers in elementary science classes were appeared, but the effects were also affected by teacher's individual characteristics. Especially the changing degrees of qualitative interactions varies with the teacher's viewpoint and preparation for the science class.

The purpose of this study was to analyze and extract the features of verbal interactions between teacher and science-gifted students in their classes. For the purpose of this study, authors observed 27 elementary science classes for the science gifted of three elementary teachers. To analyze the verbal interactions in the classes, the authors have adopted the theoretical background, which was based on Sinclair & Coulthard's Initiative-Response-Feedback pattern. Verbal interactions in the classes were analyzed by Kim's framework, which modified Jeong's framework. IRF patterns were derived from the verbal interactions of science classes for the science gifted. As a result, authors obtained some important features in IRF pattern. The most commonly used IRF pattern was the teacher's managerial question-student's short answer pattern, which was due to the regional policy for the science gifted. The teacher's delayed feedback as well as the teacher's question was meaningful for student's thinking ability. If elementary teachers consider the pattern, the strategy should be applied, which is depending on student levels and levels of contents. But three teachers did not show the characteristic verbal interaction regarded as a pattern strategy. In the future, inservice programs about verbal interaction are needed for the science gifted classes.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the cases of verbal interactions occurring during the mathematics lessons taught in middle school special classes in order to examine the elements and types of verbal interactions that occur between the teachers and students. Data were collected and analyzed for the sessions on geometric units that formed part of the mathematics lessons routinely implemented in the special classes. The analysis showed that the teachers initiated 237 (84.1%) of the 291 instances of verbal linguistic interactions. A total of 240 teachers' questions were analyzed, and questions in the area of knowledge occurred the most frequently, at 160 times (66.7%). A total of 617 student responses were analyzed, and short answers occurred the most frequently, at 367 times (59.5%). Teacher feedback occurred 581 times in total, and correct/incorrect (simple) feedback occurred the most frequently, at 234 times (40.3%). A total of 237 verbal interactions were observed between the teachers and children, and the I (RF) type (one teacher question, one student response, and one instance of teacher feedback) occurred most frequently, at 83 times (35.0%).
In this study, we studied methods of communication among audiences, artwork and artist and analyzed interactive media art using the nonverbal communication methods. We analyzed the 4 types of nonverbal communication based on sign and meaning[1] and reclassified suitably for analysis of interactive media art. According to the analysis result, we draw typical characters by analyzing interactive media artwork which were corresponding to the each types. Also we analyzed overlap area and classify. Through these processes, we found communication methods in interactive media artwork connect audiences and artwork by organic combination of several nonverbal communication. In this paper, we suggest a new approach about the communication among audiences, artwork and artist through analyzing interactive media art using nonverbal communication.

In this study, we analyzed verbal interactions among 32 students in 7th graders' science cooperative learning at the levels of turns, interaction units, and conflict behavior units, and compared their verbal interaction patterns between the heterogeneous and homogeneous groups by students' collectivism. The relationships of verbal interactions with the achievement test scores and the increase of the achievement test scores were also investigated. In the analyses of turns, the distributions of the subcategories of the statements related to the task were found to be similar in both groups, and the frequency of 'explain' was highest. The frequencies of interaction units were higher in the homogeneous groups than the heterogeneous groups, and the frequency of 'symmetric interaction' was highest. In the heterogeneous groups, the frequencies of turns and interaction units for the students of high collectivism were higher than those of low collectivism. The frequencies of conflict behavior units were generally low, but the rates were similar in both groups. In the case of the homogeneous groups, the frequencies of 'avoiding' and 'competing' for the students of low collectivism were high, and the frequency of 'cooperating' for the students of high collectivism was high. In addition, the qualitative differences between the two groups were found in the interaction units and conflict behavior units. The achievement test scores and the increase of the achievement test scores were positively related with the sum of the frequencies of the statements related to the task.
The active participation and active interaction of learners in small group science inquiry activities are the main factors that determine the effectiveness of science learning. Roles can be assigned to members of a small group to facilitate interaction between members within the small group. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of role assignment on the types and patterns of verbal interactions in middle school students' small group science inquiry activities. For this, 172 students from middle schools located in metropolitan cities were surveyed. We analyzed 18 small groups with assigned roles and 15 small groups without assigned roles. The change in verbal interaction type in small group science inquiry activity according to role assignment was largely divided into alienation and participation. In the case of small groups with assigned roles, the participation type occupied a higher proportion than the alienation type. The change in verbal interaction patterns did not show much significant differences when the role was assigned in terms of cognitive and affective. Based on this, further research is needed on how role assignment affects verbal interactions depending on the type of scientific inquiry and the stage of inquiry. In addition, further research on the composition of small groups and role assignment is required.

The purpose of this study was to develop elementary science programs that used multi-level instruction and to analyze verbal interaction patterns in science classes that applied these programs. For this study, the 27 children from the fifth grade at B elementary school, located in Gyeonggi-do, were selected and separated into heterogeneous groups of four students. Verbal interactions occuring in two groups during each class were recorded using video. Elementary science programs using multi-level instruction were developed to target a fifth grade second semester 'Lesson 1. Human Body'. This program provided a mission form for each group and evaluation form for each child. A mission form depending on the children's level has different colors and levels of difficulty for questions. The evaluation form is composed of questions suitable for a child's level in reaching the goal with key concepts. The verbal interaction was mostly categorized into the cognitive domain and the affective domain for analysis. The cognitive domain was subdivided into question, response, making solution, receiving opinion, and the affective domain was divided into behavioral participation and students' attitude. Results of study showed that the frequency of the cognitive domain was higher than the frequency of the affective domain. In the cognitive domain, the median-level was of highest frequency in the children. In the affective domain, high-level was of highest frequency in the children. In terms of both the cognitive and affective domains of children, low-level exhibited the lowest frequency. Verbal interaction frequency was no difference between high-level and median level in cognitive and affective aspects, so median-level children were actively participating in activities similarly with high-level children. There were more types of interactions question, response, making solution, students' attitude in the median-low level children's verbal interaction than high-median level children's verbal interaction.
