This paper devises a performance improvement and evaluation process of circuit minimization algorithms for mentorship education of distinguished informatics gifted secondary students. In the process, students learn that there are several alternative equivalent circuits for a target function and recognize the necessity for formalized circuit minimization methods. Firstly, they come at the concept of circuit minimization principle from Karnaugh Map which is a manual methodology. Secondly, they explore Quine-McCluskey algorithm which is a computational methodology. Quine-McCluskey algorithm's time complexity is high because it uses set operations. To improve the performance of Quine-McCluskey algorithm, we encourage them to adopt a bit-wise data structure instead of integer array for sets. They will eventually see that the performance achievement is about 36%. The ultimate goal of the process is to enlarge gifted students' interest and integrated knowledge about computer science encompassing electronic switches, logic gates, logic circuits, programming languages, data structures and algorithms.

The purpose of this study is to identify possibility of a mathematical problem posing ability by presenting problem posing tasks with different degrees of structure according to the study of Stoyanova and Ellerton(1996). Also, the results of this study suggest the direction of gifted elementary mathematics education to increase mathematical creativity. The research results showed that mathematical problem posing ability is likely to be a factor in identification of gifted students, and suggested directions for problem posing activities in education for mathematically gifted by investigating the characteristics of original problems. Although there are many criteria that distinguish between gifted and ordinary students, it is most desirable to utilize the measurement of fluency through the well-structured problem posing tasks in terms of efficiency, which is consistent with the findings of Jo Seokhee et al. (2007). It is possible to obtain fairly good reliability and validity in the measurement of fluency. On the other hand, the fact that the problem with depth of solving steps of 3 or more is likely to be a unique problem suggests that students should be encouraged to create multi-steps problems when teaching creative problem posing activities for the gifted. This implies that using multi-steps problems is an alternative method to identify gifted elementary students.
The relationship between the cerebral cortex and human intelligence has been studied using various methods, and related brain areas involved in intellectual manifestation have been discovered individually. Such studies have also shown the cerebellum is closely involved in various cognitive functions such as language, memory, and information processing. However, studies showing an activity difference between the cerebral cortex and cerebellum when performing specific tasks are hard to find. This study searched and analyzed the active regions of the cerebral cortex and cerebellum seen while performing the inference of geometrical figures. A WAIS intelligence test was conducted using 81 healthy boys (16.3 years of age on average), and five categories were classified. While performing the inference of shapes, their brain images were taken using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). As a result, the activity in 12 brain regions was observed, including in the cerebral cortex, the bilateral inferior parietal, the visual cortex, bilateral superior parietal, frontal-Inf-Tri-R, and bilateral caudate, while activities in 5 discrete areas were seen in the cerebellum. In particular, the higher the intelligence (IQ) of the subject, the stronger their activity. Among those with the most superior intelligence, subjects with an IQ of 140-147 showed significantly higher activity compared to the other groups. Such results seem to represent a very high utilization of intelligence in a highly gifted group, and we can expect to use this to determine the super gifted.

In this study, we investigated the effects of coteaching science instruction in elementary science-gifted education upon students' concept application ability and their perception of the instruction. Fifth graders (N=37) from two science-gifted classes in two elementary schools were selected and assigned to control (n=19) and coteaching instruction (CI, n=18) groups. Two teachers prepared, executed, and evaluated together the instructions for science-gifted elementary students during twelve classes in the CI group, and so did one teacher with the same programs in the control group. After the instructions, the students in the two groups were administered with a test of concept application ability. All students in the CI group were also administered with a questionnaire on the perception of the instruction and were deeply interviewed. The results revealed that the scores of those in the CI group were significantly higher than those in the control group in the test on concept application ability. Many students in the CI group perceived the coteaching science instruction positively upon verbal interaction, class management, and cognitive/affective aspects. However, some of them also pointed a few disadvantages of the instruction. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

This study aimed to explore the potential use of artificial intelligence in science education for gifted students by analyzing the structure of abstracts written by students at a gifted science academy and comparing the performance of various elements extracted using AI. The study involved an analysis of 263 graduation theses from S Science High School over five years (2017-2021), focusing on the frequency and types of background, objectives, methods, results, and discussions included in their abstracts. This was followed by an evaluation of their accuracy using AI classification methods with fine-tuning and prompts. The results revealed that the frequency of elements in the abstracts written by gifted students followed the order of objectives, methods, results, background, and discussions. However, only 57.4% of the abstracts contained all the essential elements, such as objectives, methods, and results. Among these elements, fine-tuned AI classification showed the highest accuracy, with background, objectives, and results demonstrating relatively high performance, while methods and discussions were often inaccurately classified. These findings suggest the need for a more effective use of AI, through providing a better distribution of elements or appropriate datasets for training. Educational implications of these findings were also discussed.

This study examined the characteristics of verbal interactions presented in TS activities with different tasks' openness levels by the cognitive levels of students through the implementation of TS program to 14 fifth graders in gifted class. Results of this study revealed that the open-type TS activities showed higher percentages of verbal interactions than the guiding-type TS activities showed and that the higher the open level of tasks was, the more high-level verbal interactions occurred. These results were showed in almost all subcomponents of verbal interactions. The results according to the students' cognitive levels showed that the higher the cognitive level of students was, higher frequency of interactions, high-level verbal interactions and a variety of verbal interactions occurred. The influence of both cognitive level of students and the task's openness on verbal interactions among students seemed to be interactive, however. In guiding-type activities, the percentage of high-level verbal interactions was not high although the cognitive level of students was high. And students in low level of cognition showed far lower frequency of interactions and their percentage of high-level verbal interactions was low even though the openness of the tasks was high. The results of this study meant that although open-type activities drew higher level verbal interactions by stimulating students' thought, the effects would be limited owing to their low cognitive level. Based on these findings, an implication was suggested that it is important to design instructional strategies and adjust openness level of TS activities to students' cognitive level so as to stimulate the thinking of students in lower cognitive level and to highten their engagement in activities.
We investigated brain activity during the performance of the intelligence task by a science high school student group (n=8) and a foreign language high school student group (n=5). Both groups scored in the top 1% on intelligence tests (science high school group: RAPM mean score=34.0, WAIS mean IQ=139.6; foreign language high school group: RAPM mean score=33.8, WAIS mean IQ=147.2). Analysis of brain activity during the performance of the intelligence task showed that both groups had brain activity in certain areas, including the left and right prefrontal cortex, parietal cortex, and anterior cingulate. The science high school group showed the highest activity in the right parietal cortex, which is related to visuo-spatial working memory, whereas the foreign language high school group showed the highest activity in the left prefrontal cortex, which is related to verbal working memory. The foreign language high school group showed higher brain activity than the science high school group in the left precentral gyrus which is related to the motion of the tongue and lips. These results show that the science high school group utilized the visuo-spatial area, whereas the foreign language high school group utilized the verbal area during the performance of the intelligence task. This suggests that the major thinking process differs depending on the gifted students' primary field of study, although they are doing the same task.

In this paper, the elementary students from the Information class of the Science Education Institute for the Gifted were divided into the experimental and control groups. The two groups took Scratch programming classes and the changes in their sociality were analyzed. The experimental group used the Scratch remix function, an educational programming language, to perform the LT cooperative learning. The control group took general instructor-led classes. The experimental group carried out a team project in which learners should cooperate with each other to produce certain results using the remix function. Twelve 3-hour lessons were taken by the experimental and control groups consisting of 30 and 30 students respectively to verify changes depending on remix-based cooperative learning. According to t-test using the survey results, the experimental group that performed cooperative learning using the Scratch remix function showed more improved sociality than the control group did. There was a statistically significant difference as well.
