Study on the quality of instruction of two beginning mathematics teachers: Toward the above criteria (두 초임 수학교사의 수업의 질에 대한 연구)

  • Teaching is delicate, complicated, and demanding work, and especially beginning teachers set forth their difficulties in preparing and implementing mathematics instruction. It is important to ensure the quality of beginning mathematics teachers' instruction above a consistent level because such affirmation justifies the national policy on teacher education as well as the individual efforts of preservice teachers in South Korea. The current study collected mathematics lessons of the two beginning teachers who graduated from the same teacher training institute and worked at the same high school. The findings reported what features their lessons have with regard to the learning environment, engaging students in learning, deepening student learning, and using representations of the edTPA in order to identify what can or cannot be expected in their mathematics instruction. The instruction of the one teacher was assessed middle or more than middle scores throughout the rubrics, but the other one had lower scores. Based on these findings, this study suggested the implications for teacher education in ways of improving the quality of instruction of beginning mathematics teachers.

변화를 위한 교사교육에 관한 탐색

  • 교사가 효과적으로 수업을 하려면 계속해서 개선을 해야 한다. 교사들이 자신의 수업을 계속해서 반성함으로써, 또한 교수와 학습에 대한 지식이 변함에 따라 수업이 변하고 발전한다. 따라서 이상적인 교사는 꾸준히 변하는 교사이다. 이러한 교사역할에서의 변화가 요구되는 합의가 암묵적으로 이루어지고 있으므로, 교사의 역할을 인지적 관점과 사회적 관점으로 나누어 살펴보고, 교사교육을 실행공동체에서의 참여의 변화과정으로 개념화하여, 교사교육 프로그램의 방향과 효과에 대하여 알아본다. 이에 따른 바람직한 교사의 변화 방향을 탐색하여 수학 교실 향상에 대한 앞으로의 시사점을 얻는 것이 이 논문의 목적이다.

중등수학 임용시험 평가문항과 전국 수학교육과 교과목 분석

  • 본 연구는 1992학년도부터 2008학년도까지의 수학과 중등교사 신규임용후보자 선정 경쟁시험(이하 중등교사 임용시험)과 2009학년도의 개정 시행된 시험(2008년 11월 9일), 그리고 이에 앞서 한국교육과정평가원에서 시행한 2009학년도 수학과 중등교사 임용시험 모의평가(2008년 6월 14일 시행)을 분석하고 평가문항의 내용별 분포와 적절성을 검토함으로써 수학과 중등교사 임용시험의 개선방안을 모색하기 위하여 다음과 같은 연구문제를 설정하고 이에 대한 분석을 하였다. 수학전공과목 임용시험 출제 평가문항의 내용영역별 분류는 어떠한가? 수학과 중등교사 임용시험 평가 문항들의 각 영역별 출제 빈도수는 어떠한가? 전국 사범대학교 수학교육과의 교육과정은 어떠한가? 임용시험 평가문항들이 사범대 수학교육과의 기본 이수과목을 포함한 교육과정을 적절하게 반영하고 있는가? 향후 중등교사 임용시험의 개선점에는 무엇이 있겠는가? 각 연구문제에 대한 분석결과에 대해 심층적으로 알아보고 중등교사 임용시험 평가문항들과 전국의 사범대학교 수학교육과의 기본 이수과목들에 대한 관련성에 대해 알아볼 것이다.

Inductive Analysis Approach on Middle Grade Mathematics Pre-Service Teachers' Teaching Philosophies (중등 예비 수학 교사의 교육철학에 대한 귀납적 분석)

  • Teachers' philosophies have not been emphasized enough in the current teacher education curriculum even though teacher's philosophy palys a critical role in schools and classrooms. The examination on pre-service teachers' teaching philosophies is necessary to improve teacher education curriculum so that teaching philosophies are often discussed in the courses of 'pedagogical content knowledge' as well as 'general education.' Therefore, the current study investigated 44 pre-service teachers' teaching philosophies, their sub domains, and relationships among the sub domains. The previous studies regarding mathematics teacher's teaching philosophy were more about 'teacher's belief' and employed deductive inference approach using surveys or questionnaires. These studies commonly pointed out that there were three major domains of 'belief on mathematics itself,' 'belief on teaching mathematics,' and 'belief on learning mathematics.' As these three domains of teacher's philosophy has been strengthened, there were very few studies examining the other potential domains of teacher's teaching philosophy. According to the findings of the present study, which employed inductive inference approach and pre-service teachers' free essay writing assignment, 'belief on teacher's role in mathematics classroom,' 'belief on the purpose of mathematics education,' and 'motivation to be a mathematics teacher' were additionally illuminated as sub domains of teacher's teaching philosophy. Moreover, the interrelationship among the sub-areas of teacher's teaching philosophy was disclosed. Specifically, 'belief on the purpose of mathematics education' and 'motivation to be a mathematics teacher' influenced the other sub domains. This implies that the relationships among the sub domains of teacher's teaching philosophy were more likely to be causal and vertical relationships rather than independent and parallel relationships. Finally, the findings from the current study provide implications indicating how pre-service teachers' teaching philosophies might be established in mathematics education courses for future research and education.

교사양성대학에서의 이산수학 교육과정

  • 교육과정은 그 시대에 적합한 요구들을 반영하여야 한다. 제 7차 수학과 교육과정에서 이산수학의 도입이 바로 정보화 시대의 반영이라고 볼 수 있다. 즉, 이산수학의 도입은 수학의 변화가 수학교육의 변화로 이어졌다는 점에서 긍정적으로 평가할 수 있다. 그러나 새로운 내용의 교육과정 도입은 충분한 검증 절차의 부재로 인하여 부정적인 측면도 나타날 수 있다. 예를 들어, 교사양성 대학에서 이미 오래 전부터 개설되어진 해석학이나 대수학 같은 강좌와는 달리 이산수학의 강좌는 비교적 최근에 개설되어 졌으므로 대부분의 현장교사들은 이산수학 내용에 대한 지식이 거의 없다는데 있다. 이러한 문제점들을 바탕으로 우선, 교사양성 대학교육과정에서의 이산수학에 대한 충분한 연구와 우리 현실에 맞는 교재의 재구성이 요구되어진다. 따라서 본 연구를 통해 7차교육과정을 고려하여, 교사양성 대학에 적합한 이산수학 강좌에 대한 구체적인 예들을 제시하여 사범대학 학생들로 하여금 이산수학을 제대로 이해하고, 아울러 이러한 연구가 현직 교사연수에도 충분히 반영될 수 있도록 한다.

Pre-Service Secondary Mathematics Teacher Education Program for Technology Integrated Curriculum: The Present and Tasks (테크놀로지 통합을 위한 예비 중등수학교사교육: 현황과 과제)

  • This study was designed to gain insights into investigating pre-service secondary mathematics teacher education for technology integrated curriculum. The progressive expansion of supporting system for those education in US, TPACK, teacher belief, and analysis frameworks for teacher education program were explored. A survey on the technology courses in 42 mathematics education departments was analysed. Technology courses were not opened in 1/3 of the departments because of the lack of lecturers or objection of the faculty members. Common visions as well as curriculum realignment, financial supports are required for implementing technology integrated mathematics education

A Study on Possibility of Research Community for Mathematics Classroom of Expert-Inservice Teacher-Preservice Teacher (전문가-현장교사-예비교사 수학수업 연구 공동체의 가능성 탐색)

  • The development of teacher's professionalism through teacher education is a key element in the improvement of school education. However, there has been criticism that the mathematics teacher education in Korea do not provide given enough opportunities for the classroom experience during preservice teacher education period. For development of inservice mathematics teachers and preservice teachers' teaching professionalism, this study develops a research community for mathematics classroom consisting of experts, inservice mathematics teachers, and preservice teachers. And the study explores the possibilities of the model as an educational space for inservice teachers and preservice teachers by participating in a series of courses such as task development and revision, and observation and analysis of classes. As results, inservice teachers and preservice teachers were able to enhance the practical experience and understanding necessary for the class, and they were also positively influenced in teacher efficacy and view of teaching on the model. Based on this, we suggest the possibility of the model as a teacher education system.

Korean Mathematics Teachers' Views on Education and Teacher Efficacy (우리나라 수학교사의 교육에 대한 인식과 교사효능감에 대한 조사 연구)

  • This study investigated mathematics teachers' views on education, teacher efficacy, and the relationship of teacher efficacy and Confucian Heritage Culture's views on education. In particular, the differences on the basis of teachers' teaching experience and academic level were examined. We identified teachers' views on education by investigating their views on the purpose of education and examining whether they support the perspectives of teaching and learning in Confucian Heritage Culture. The questionnaire was answered by a total of 572 elementary teachers and secondary mathematics teachers. The results of this survey revealed that mathematics teachers have both Confucian Heritage Culture's view and Western view on education and quiet strong teacher efficacy. The views on education differed by academic levels, but there were no differences in teaching experiences. The teacher efficacy was differed by both academic levels and teaching experiences. The correlation between teacher efficacy and Confucian Heritage Culture's view on education was low. Findings were discussed with regard to their implications for both Korean mathematics education and mathematics teachers' teaching practice.

  • 수학 교사의 지식은 교과내용 지식, 일반 교육학 지식, 교육학 내용 지식, 교육과정 지식, 학습자에 대한 지식, 교육적 내용에 관한 지식, 수학 교육 목표, 목적, 가치에 대한 지식으로 분류될 수 있다. 지금까지 이러한 수학 교사에 대한 지식 종류에 대한 학문적 연구는 뚜렷하게 체계적으로 연구되어지지 못하고 주로 저학년 학생 및 학습자 위주로 산발적인 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 수학교사가 지녀야할 지식은 수학 학습자인 학생들을 어떻게 효과적으로 가르치느냐에 가장 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것이므로 이에 따른 구체적인 조사 연구가 필요할 뿐만 아니라 교사교육 프로그램에 반영되어 효과적으로 능력있는 교사를 양성할 수 있도록 하여야겠다.

  • This study is a basic step research for developing mathematics teacher education program using the potential power of explorative softwares for learning geometry. This study investigates the characteristics of the softwares and noteworthy points in its applying process. Analizing an impact of this softwares on the mathematics leaching and learning, this study presents the desirable direction for developing the teacher education program for mathematics teachers to be ableto teach successfully. Focusing on GSP as an to manage classrooms of the 21st century successfully. Focusing on GSP as an excellent explorative software used widely in the current mathematics classrooms, this study investigates the potential contents to be used in the teacher education program for mathematics teachers to get new kinds of experiences about the softwares and suggests implications for choosing contents and instructional methods of the program using the softwares.
