  • Fuzzy matching is proposed to make propensities of two groups similar with their propensity scores and a way to select control variable to make propensity scores with a process that shows how to acquire propensity scores using logic regression analysis, is presented. With such scores, it was a method to obtain an experiment group and a control group that had similar propensity employing the Fuzzy Matching. In the study, it was proven that the two groups were the same but with a different distribution chart and standardization which made edge tolerance different and we realized that the number of chosen cases decreased when the edge tolerance score became smaller. So with the idea, we were able to determine that it is possible to merge groups using fuzzy matching without a precontrol and use them when data (big data) are used while to check the pros and cons of Fuzzy Matching were made possible.

  • This study aimed to identify the relationship between perfectionism and motivational climate in competitive athletes and to provide information for improvement of their performance. One hundred ninety-six athletes who trained in Korea National Training Center participated in this study and they were divided into record and man-to-man events. Also they filled in the questionnaire about demographic factors, perfectionism, and motivational climate. Collected data were analyzed by using cross validation and independent t-test for identifying the difference of two events and structural equation model for testing hypotheses and model fit. Perfectionism and motivational climate in man-to-man events were stronger compared to record event. In record event, perfectionism was more influenced by ego involving motivational climate compared to task involving, while in man-to-man event, perfectionism was affected by only ego involving motivational climate. However, these both study models had a bad fit.

  • This study was conducted to identify profiles of loners and those likely to suffer academic burnout among middle school students and to determine whether these profiles differed by gender, ego-resilience, ego-weakness, and school adaptation. The participants in this study were 270 middle school students in Kyung-nam. The results showed that there were four main profiles of students related to their likelihood of being loners and suffering academic burnout: the adaptive group, which had a low tendency towards both loneliness and academic burnout; the burnout group, which had a high tendency towards academic burnout but a low tendency towards loneliness; the lonely group, which had a high tendency towards loneliness but a low tendency towards academic burnout; and the loner-burnout group, which had high tendencies towards both loneliness and academic burnout. Cross-tabulation and one-way ANOVA analyses of the four groups showed that the loneliness-burnout group had a statistically lower level of ego-resilience, higher level of ego-weakness, and lower level of school adaptation than the other groups. This paper discusses the implications for counseling middle school students and presents suggestions for future research.

  • The present study examined whether individuals would respond differently, as a function of cultural self-orientations, when their requests were rejected. Also examined was whether individuals with different cultural self-orientations would predict differently how their interaction partner would respond when they rejected his or her request. Furthermore, it was investigated whether experimentally induced perspective-taking would influence responses to rejection and predictions of responses to rejection. It was found that responses to rejection as well as predictions of responses to rejection varied as a function of individual's independent self-orientation and perspective-taking. However, no significant effects were found with regard to interdependent self-orientation. Based on these results, the implications that cultural self-orientations have for request rejection and social behavior in general are discussed, and future directions are suggested.

  • This study investigates the impact of over-investment on the market value of cash holdings. In addition, this paper examines whether the effect of over-investment on the value of cash holdings differs depending on firms' ownership structure. The results show that increase in over-investment reduces the market value of cash holdings. This suggests that investors perceive that over-investment deteriorates future business performance and generates excessive burdens on future cash flows. As a result, they provide negative evaluation on the market value of cash holdings. In addition, the negative impact of over-investment on the market value of cash holdings is more significant for owner manager firms where managers hold a high level of equity. Such empirical results imply that owner manager firms are more likely to use their cash holdings for private interest, therefore, over-investment reduces the cash value to a greater extent. This study provides empirical evidence that the effect of over-investment on the market value of cash holdings varies depending on the characteristics of firms' ownership structure.

The results are presented as follows. In relation to research question 1 and 2, attitude polarization toward selective exposure and political orientation, selective exposure and political interest of YouTube political video users was examined. As a result, in the same selective exposure, the main effect on attitude polarization 'I' was found. Therefore, it was found that the higher the selective exposure of YouTube users to political videos, the stronger the attitude polarization toward YouTube users themselves. In relation to research question 3, attitude polarization toward political orientation and political interest of YouTube political video users was examined. As a result, the interaction effect on the attitude polarization 'I' was found in the political orientation and political interest. Therefore, when political interest in both progressive and conservative tendencies is high, the attitude polarization toward YouTube users themselves is also strengthened.

The influence of subjective ideology evaluation and political party support on anti-elitism (AE), people centrism (PC) and anti-pluralism (AP) are analyzed in detail. To research this, the socioeconomic factors, democracy recognition and the method of political participation are set as control variables, and the ideologies are classified into extreme conservative, conservative, moderate, progress, and extreme progress. The data are collected through nationwide online survey. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, the powerful affinity between ideological orientation and populist attitude are confirmed. The support for conservative ideology (especially extreme conservative) and the conservative party are affecting the AE and AP, and the ideology of extreme progress and support for the progressive party are influencing the PC and AP. When putting together 3 types of attitude, the conservative (especially extreme conservative) and extreme progressive ideology are the factors that determine the populism attitude. Second, There was no impact of socioeconomic variables except gender (female) and age. Third, populist attitude have a multidimensional nature determined by democratic satisfaction, government trust, external efficacy, voting and non-voting activities.
