Objectives:This study was done as a part of investigating individual and socioenvironmental factors affecting test anxiety in adolescent. The focusing of this study was detecting specific family enviromental factors affecting worry and emotionality of test anxiety. Methods:The subjects of this study were 880 middle and high school students in Seoul, Korea. To evaluate test anxiety level, Spielberger's Test Anxiety Inventory was applied and to evaluate familial factor, Moos and Moos' Family Environmental Scale was done. Results:The results were as follows. 1) Total and worry part of test anxiety scores were negatively correlated with cohesion and independence scores. Total, worry, and emotional part of test anxiety scores were positively correlated with achievement orientation and control scores. 2) High test anxiety group showed higher achievement orientation and control scores, and lower cohesion scores than low test anxiety group. 3) The higher socioeducational level of parents were, the higher three subscale (cohesion, independence, and achievement orientation) scores were, except control score. Conclusion:In therapeutic approach of adolescent's test anxiety, the importance of education and treatment of their parents should be emphasized. Parents should set their children's appropriate achievement goal, encourage their children's independency instead of control. Cohesion of familial members are also needed.
The drastically changing society has brought diverse types of families, and these diversities are changing the concept of the word 'family' itself. Inevitably, these changes cause different viewpoints among family members, developing into conflicts and social issues. In this paper, generational family problems, which are caused by changes within the family as a result of the variously, diversely changing society, are observed to suggest a resolution. Looking into the functional variety that today's structural change within a family demands, several positives changes described below have been observed; Firstly, the change in the way of interaction among family members; Secondly, the demand for continuance on relational functions including love, care, etc, as a psychological resource of family; Thirdly, the conversion from form's sake relationship to actual relationship; and Lastly, the usage of a clearer communications network. The interaction between the parent-children relationship, according to the changes in family life cycle, is also re-focused to seek resolutions for intergenerational conflicts. The results are as follows; Firstly, the changeability of various family types today must be accepted, and the functional aspects of changing families must be emphasized ; Secondly, the mutual-exchanging value of each generation must be accepted, strengthening relational functions between generations; Thirdly, it is necessary to refocus filial piety. In other words, though the intergenerational transmission of family functions may become the basis of lineage and clan formation, it won't be possible without interaction between generation.

The purpose of this study was to compare the degree of happiness between mothers of preschoolers (3-5yrs) and mothers of elementary school students (6-7yrs). The subjects of this study included 168 mothers of preschoolers and 170 mothers of elementary school students. They were randomly chosen. We measured and analyzed 338 mothers' happiness using Ryff's psychological well-being items. The results of this study reveal that although overall happiness level was similar, the two groups of mothers' happiness had statistically significant differences in 6 factors of mothers' happiness. Preschooler mothers had higher levels of happiness in autonomy and personal growth, while elementary school student mothers had higher levels of happiness in environment mastery, positive relationships, purpose of life, and self-acceptance. Also, the background of mothers, such as age, educational status, family income, and religion caused statistically significant differences in happiness level of both groups.
This study aims to understand the process of family reunion of the ex-offenders. To this end, Korea Rehabilitation Agency under Ministry of Justice and Healthy Family Support Center conducted intensive interviews with ex-offenders, their families and with 8 counselors who are in charge of ex-offenders and their families' residential, psychological, and educational support. The data collected through the interviews were analyzed by Consensus Qualitative Research(COR). The followings are the results: the counselors found out that most of ex-offenders had experienced unhappy childhood which was lack of healthy relationship with their parents. Secondly, counselors noticed a common feature among the families of ex-offenders. The common feature was that they keep the fact that one of their parents was imprisoned to their children as a secret. Thirdly, through the data analysis, counselors could understand various factors that affect reunion of ex-offenders' families: the factors that helped successful reunion were ex-offenders' sense of responsibility, open and healthy communication among family members, and mutual understanding of being a good family member, whereas, irresponsible dependance to other family members, denier and avoidance from the family members against ex-offenders, and lost sense of being a family member were the factors that discouraged the reunion. It turned out that the kinds of crime that ex-offenders committed also affected family reunion. The processes of reunion were easier for those who served their time with fraud, embezzlement, whereas, it was much more challenging for those who served their time with rape, violence, or murder. Fourthly, counselors learned that "relaxation" is the key factor in the process of reunion of ex-offenders' families. They also emphasized that there should be thorough monitoring process before the intervention in the reunion process. This study contributes in terms of finding healthy ways of intervention with ex-offenders' families and developing programs that help ex-offenders to recover their relationship with their family.

Objectives:This study was conducted to investigate variables related to children's depression, and also the relationships between children's depression and parents' depression. Methods:258 5th and 6th grade elementary school students in Taegu, and their parents were asked to complete self-report questionnaires including the children's depression Inventory(CDI) and the Beck's depression Inventory(BDI). Correlation analysis, T-test, One-way ANOVA were used for the statistical analysis and the statistically significant level is p<0.05. Results:1) CDI mean for total children is $13.5{\pm}6.77$, BDI mean for their mother is $13.3{\pm}7.25$, and BDI mean for their father is $11.6{\pm}7.03$. 2) There are significant differences in CDI for children variables related to sex, health, school achievement, economic status. 3) Mother's health slightly affect children's depression, but there are no significant differences in CDI for parents' education, religion, father's health. 4) Children's school achievement and economic status among variables related to children affect mother's BDI scores and children's school achievement affect father's BDI scores. 5) For CDI item analysis, there are significant differences in 10 items for children's sex, in 8 items for health, and in 6 items for economic status. Especially, there are significant differences in 20 items among 27 items for children's school achievement. 6) There is significant correlation between parents' BDI scores and children's CDI scores, and especially high correlation to mother for both boys and girls. Conclusion:Children's depression are significantly affected by children's sex, health, school achievement, economic status. And especially school achievement affect grossly children's depression and their mother's depression, so we know that children and their mother have much burden about school achievement. There is high correlation between children's depression and parents'(especially mother) depression. Therefore, these result imply that in the therapy for children's depression, we must include not only children's problems but also parents' depression and parent-children relationship.
Short Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test for Fathers(F-SMAST) and Mothers(M-SMAST) is to measure the presence of an alcohol use disorder in one's father and/or mother. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Korean version of the F-SMAST and M-SMAST. A total of 241 college students, who resided in Seoul and two other cities, participated in this study. The internal consistency of the Korean version of the F-SMAST and M-SMAST was assessed using alpha coefficient. The alpha coefficient of both the F-SMAST and the M-SMAST was 0.82. Standard Errors of Measurement(SEM) were also computed. SEMs of the F-SMAST and the M-SMAST were quite low. With a cut-off score of 3, the F-SMAST correctly identified 91 percent of respondents who were presumed to be children of alcoholics and correctly identified 81 percent of respondents who were presumed not to be children of alcoholics. Sensitivity and specificity of the M-SMAST with a cut-off score of 1 are 0.33 and 0.81, respectively. Several variables were examined in relation to the F-SMAST and the M-SMAST to examine convergent and discriminant validity. It was found that the F-SMAST and the M-SMAST were significantly correlated with most of convergent variables(average amount of drinking per day, AUDIT, distress) and had not statistically significant relationships with discriminant variables(demographic variables). This study suggests that the Korean version of the F-SMAST and the M-SMAST be repeatedly assessed across different sample in order to confirm the findings of this study.

Objectives: This purpose of this study was to make clear the fitness to data of the causality model related to father's child-rearing participation in a double-income household. Methods: Subjects of this survey consisted of the fathers of 2,006 households that use 21 day-care centers and 4 kindergartens whose cooperation was received via the city government departments that have jurisdiction over day-care centers and kindergartens in cities A and B in prefecture I and in city C in prefecture II (city A: 499 households; city B: 1,113 households; city C: 988 households). The surveyed items consisted of the father's age, the father's educational history, the number of children, the age of the youngest child, the father's parental-role awareness, the father's daily working hours, the father's return-home time, and child-rearing participation by the father. Results: The fit indices were found to be CFI = 0.912, GFI = 0.948, and RMSEA = 0.082. Regarding the path coefficients, the path coefficient of the pathway from the age of the youngest child to the father's parent positivity (0.08) and the path coefficient of the pathway from the father's parent positivity to child-rearing participation (0.19) were both at statistically significant levels. Also, the father's return-home time and the working hours, which were considered as disincentives exhibited a direct effect on child-rearing participation without being influenced by the father's parent positivity or parent negativity. The path coefficient of the pathway from return-home time to child-rearing participation was -0.43, and the path coefficient of the pathway from working hours to child-rearing participation was -0.13. The value of the path coefficient expressing the relationship between the return-home time and working hours was 0.80. Conclusion: Authors infered that it'll be the basic material to build a generation mechanism about vanity and father's child-rearing participation appropriately as a result of this research.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Mother's anger and depression on young children's problem behaviors. Data collection was from May 1, to July 1, 2019, and 244 Mother's entrusted infants and young children to three early childhood education institutions in Daejeon, Busan and Ulasn. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple liner regression analysis using SPSS/WIN 24.0. The results of this study showed that the young children's problem behavior had a statistically significant positive correlation with Mother's anger(r=.261, p=<.001), and depression(r=.435, p<.001). The multiple regression analysis showed that the factors that significantly affect the young children's problem behavior were depression(𝛽=16.57, p<.001) of the Mother's and the total explanatory power was 19.2%. Therefore, it provided implication for the need to develop parent education program to support the reduction of depression factors along with the emotional support Mother's.
This paper attempts to explore the relation between health care availability and child mortality among ethnic groups with different cultural traditions of sex preference. Micro-data from the 1990 Census of China for Yanbian and Xishuangbanna Prefectures are used. Based on the analysis of data for Koreans, Hans, and Dais in these prefectures, a new model explaining the relation between sex preference, health care. and differentials in child mortality is proposed in this paper. In societies, where health care is easily available, the level of child mortality is not likely to be a function of sex preference. In societies where there is little availability of health care, members of ethnic groups with strong sex preference do whatever possible to assure survival of their children of the preferred sex. But actions to assure survival of children of the sex not preferred by their parents depend on the costs involved and other considerations. Therefore, the level of child mortality for the preferred sex is likely to be substantially lower than that of the not-preferred sex. However, as availability of health care improves and the cost of obtaining health care becomes lower, survival of children of the not-preferred sex are likely to improve. It is generally agreed that Koreans and Hans show strong son preference, while Dais have cultural traditions of daughter preference. In Yanbian, where virtually all children receive health care whenever it is needed, Korean females and Han females show lower child mortality than their male counterparts, although the difference is not found to be significant for Koreans. In Xishuangbanna, where there is little availability of health care, Dai males show markedly higher child mortality than Dai females, and Han females have higher child mortality than Han males. However, small improvements in the availability of health care in Xishuangbanna translate into substantial improvements in survival of male children for Dais, and survival of female children for Hans.
