Comparison of Consumer Media Use Gratification for the Effective Delivery of Fine Dust Information: Applying the Niche Theory (효과적인 미세먼지 정보전달을 위한 소비자의 미디어 이용충족 비교 -적소이론을 적용하여 -)

  • Fine dust is one of the top ten causes of deaths globally. More than 95% of the world's population are endangered by it. However, as the fine dust problem is difficult to address immediately, people should be informed of its risk and prepared to deal with it. This study explores the methods used to define, efficiently provide, and manage the complementary relationships between various types of media providing risk information utilizing the competitive characteristics of media in niche theory. A survey consisting of 348 Korean university students was conducted over 12 days, to analyze three factors: consumer perception of fine dust, media usage, and media use gratification. The response value for media gratification was substituted in the equation to derive the niche breadth, niche overlap, and competitive superiority. It was found that 1) for providing fine dust forecast and fine dust response guidance information, a smartphone application was the most effective; 2) smartphone applications were limited in providing additional information such as the severity and origin of fine dust, and hence, it is necessary to establish the functionality of the Internet and TV to complement smartphone applications. Thus, a system considering the above should be developed.

Age-Related Bone Mineral Density, Accumulated Bone Loss Rate at Multiple Skeletal Sites in Korean Men (한국 남성의 연령에 따른 부위별 골밀도 변화 및 골 소실률)

  • This study examined the age-related bone mineral density (BMD), accumulated bone loss rate (ABLR) at different skeletal sites in Korean men using the data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES)(the 1st (2010), 2nd (2010) and the year at the 5th survey). The cubic regression model was found to be the best for describing the age-related changes in BMD. The lumbar spine, total hip, femoral neck, trochanter, Ward's triangle in the bone mineral density difference were analyzed by ANOVA. The peak BMD was at 20-24 years at the lumbar spine, total hip, femoral neck, trochanter, Ward's triangle, and the 75-79 years of age group had the highest Accumulated Bone Loss Rate. Therefore, intensive management will be necessary for men over 75 years, and a diagnosis of osteoporosis in Korean men should be made according to The International Society for Clinical Densitometry; ISCD.

A Case Study on the Accessibility of Online Learning Content in Korea (국내 원격 교육 콘텐츠의 접근성 분석 사례)

  • The accessibility evaluation of ten web-based loaming content in Korea was performed with the following procedure : (1) A primitive metric of the compliance of those contents to the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 1.0 was obtained using Bobby, a widely used accessibility checker. (2) SGML validation test was carried out. (3) The contents were rendered with various browsers including a text-mode browser. (4) They were manually checked as to whether they satisfy the accessibility criteria proposed by W3C. Most of the tested contents scored low marks in all the test categories partly because they were apparently developed with little attention paid to web standard conformance, browser compatibility, and device-independence. They also put heavy emphasis on audio-visual effects catering only to the best-equipped users and offering no alternate access route for those in restricted environment. As more information and learning materials are delivered through the Internet, these low accessible contents would lead to a deeper information divide. The accessibility needs to be regarded as an important factor in evaluating the quality of loaming content.

A Use-Case Based Object-Oriented Project Scheduling Technique (Use-Case 기반 객체지향 프로젝트 스케줄링 기법)

  • Object-oriented development has been generalized, but object-oriented project planning and scheduling techniques have not been studied enough. Furthermore, it is difficult to apply the conventional software management techniques to object-oriented projects. Especially, the large scaled projects are increasing, but the project planing techniques for these large scaled projects have not been proposed enough. In this paper, we propose systematic techniques for OO based project scheduling. We suggest a 7 step-process for deriving the OO project schedule from the use-case diagram which is describing the functional requirements of the system. The proposed process includes identifying use-cases, drawing preliminary chart through interdependency analysis, identifying characteristics of each use case, determining the number of iteration, assigning use-cases to iteration, considering available resource and constraints, drawing revised PERT chart. Each step has the explanation of the input, output, and the guidelines needed to perform the step. The project scheduling technique proposed in this paper ran be used effectively in the planning phase which the purpose is to plan a development schedule to yield the high quality software in minimum time.

  • Semantic web ontologies can be viewed as logic-based domain-oriented contents which allow distributed and heterogeneous information to be semantically integrated, automatically circulated, and enable implicit knowledge to be reasoned. This paper describes the 'Science and Technology Research Area' ontology which is being developed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). This ontology was defined to assist actual researchers and project planners to grasp the researchers community from a variety of viewpoints. We describe classes and properties as ontology components and exemplify the representation of real instances in the ontology. In order to represent the identities of real world instances within the ontology, the above ontology employs both class-dependent URI assignment schemes and the identity resolution methods.

An Evaluation Method for Short-Term Ratings of Double-Circuit Overhead Transmission Lines (2회선 가공송전선의 단시간정격에 관한 평가방법)

  • This paper describes an analytical method to determine the short-term ratings to reliably operate the overhead transmission lines with double-circuit lines when faulting one circuit of the two. As linearizing the thermal equilibrium equation that represents the temperature characteristic of conductors, we show that the linear equation can be easily represented the over-current and it's temperature property during overloading the one line. Generally, it is well hewn that the short-term line ratings should be determined by considering both conductor life and dip. However, most power companies have their own different guides for the short-term ratings. Using the suggested method in this paper, it can be re-accessed the short-term ratings given in Kepco's overhead transmission lines constructed during the past three different periods. As a result, it is verified that the short-term ratings could be increased mil efficiently. Furthermore, it would be directly applied the given method to determine the short-term dynamic line ratings when occurring faults in one of the double-circuit lines, without doing my other actions for the current lines.

  • Since, Davis(1991) has proposed the TAM(Technology Acceptance Model) through a literature review of informatization promotion, which insists that a user conveniency is judged by the degree of effectiveness caused by IT, the advancement of IT such as the Internet, e-mail, electronic data exchange, and groupware have brought into various changes in ordinary corporations and public institutions. However, with the right function, the advancement of IT has provided various benefits including additional reverse functions. Based on an integrated environment of business process, unauthorized user could access to information and a management of information becomes more difficult than before due to informatization of critical information. Furthermore, external hacking or information leakage by insider becomes easier owing to advancement in communication technology. This study has tried to develop a specified management procedure and implementation method for confidential documents.

Improvement of National Risk Alarm 4-Stage Criteria for Flood Disaster (홍수재난 대응을 위한 국가위기경보 4단계 설정기준 개선)

  • EAP, which is operated on the frame of Risk Alarm 4-stage of National Risk Management Guideline, is a critical method in order to promptly respond to disasters. Korea Flood Control Office issues major and moderate flood alarm at each river station by respectively 50% and 70% of design flood discharge in terms of watermark or sea level, however, the criteria deciding major and moderate floods are vague for field managers to control the disaster situations. On the other hand, Japan and USA use river water level as a main criterion in order to classify the stage of flood disaster, which is higher design flood level than Korea. Thus, the authors analyzed domestic and oversea EAP guidelines and suggested improved criteria showing easy display method and raising the criteria of flood level for reflecting more effective action plans through testing a simulation training on the test-bed.

Experience of College Students on Anger (대학생의 분노 경험)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the anger experiences of college students and to clarify their meaning and structure. For this purpose, 7 students who experienced anger were interviewed in-depth and the data was analysed by phenomenological method of Giorgi. As a result, 19 sub-components and 5 core components were derived. The five core components were the difficult situation to accept, the expression of unbearable emotions, tiredness of mind and body, efforts to overcome, and growth after overcoming. 'The difficult situation to accept' referred to a situation in which anger was felt, and 'expression of unbearable emotion' referred to an expression of anger. The effect of anger showed the result of 'exhausted of mind and body'. 'Efforts to overcome' and 'growth after overcoming' has been to grow through efforts to resolve anger and have been adapted to school life. Finally, this study suggested a method to help college students overcome their anger, and a concrete plan for university.

  • The space qualification has to be conducted by a high level of screening to ensure the design margin of devices, materials, manufacturing processes, units, modules, and subsystem or system. The space qualification according to traditional test standards proposed by US military, NASA and ESA involve high cost and tight schedule due to their conservative requirements. It is necessary to develop a space qualification guideline that is cost-efficient and schedule-optimized for the development of domestic satellites. In this study, as a basic research to develop the space qualification guideline, the articles related to space qualification in test standards document released from military and space agency have been investigated. We are planning to utilize the results as a basic database for establishing the independent tailored space qualification guideline.
