  • In Korea, the population size of the elderly is rapidly increasing, and housing for them is emerging as an important issue. In particular, Aging in Place (AIP) has steadily been presented as a direction of welfare for the elderly. This study empirically examines the effect of the interactions of the elderly with their children on residential mobility for older Koreans. To do so, this study employed random effect logistic regression models with the dataset of the 2008-2020 Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging. The findings are as follows. First, it was found that the interaction with their children increased the probability of residential mobility for older Koreans in both metropolitan areas and non-metropolitan areas. Second, as age increased, the interaction with their children tended to further promote residential mobility for older Koreans, but such effects varied depending on related variables. Third, it was confirmed that the possibility of further promoting residential mobility for older Koreans increased through the interaction effects of the variables associated with the interaction with their children. This study suggests policy implications for the residential mobility of older Koreans, i.e., whether the interactions with their children improve independent residential environments by enhancing housing stability, in terms of AIP.

  • Objectives: This study was to investigate fear of falling and related factors in elderly living alone based on fall experience. Methods: Participants were 404 elderly women(faller=148, non-faller=256) over 65 years who were homebound living alone in Jeollanam-do Province. Face-to-face interviews were conducted using questionnaires from April $23^{th}$ to June $9^{th}$ 2013. The questionnaires consisted of demographic variables, fall experience, Fear of falling questionnaire(FOFQ), Falls Efficacy Scale(FES) and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression(CES-D). The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS version 14.0. Results: The fear of falling and the influential factors were different according to fall experience. Regression model for fear of falling in fallers significantly accounted for 46.1%(F=6.71, p<0.001); difficulty of performing activity, depression, fall-efficacy, static balance and assistive devices. Regression model for fear of falling in non-fallers significantly accounted for 55.2%(F=15.16, p<0.001); fall-efficacy, environmental hazards, difficulty of performing activity, risk of nutrition, housing type, dizziness and assistive devices. Conclusion: Results demonstrate that fall is an important health problem for elderly women living alone, and show fall experience for factors influencing fear of falling. These results could be used in the developing fall prevention programs.

  • Korea, which became an aging society in 2000, has made transition to an aged society more quickly than expected since late 2017 after 17 years. Despite this trend, the awareness towards elderly housing facilities has not yet been raised across in society. The primary reason is that use of elderly housing facilities has not been promoted due to lack of understanding about the construction and management of the facilities. The housing of the elderly should be considered in terms of not only residential space but also the issues of medical care and continuous care. Therefore, the trend of elderly housing is pursuing the Continuing Care Retirement Community. Thus, this study analyzed the policies of existing elderly housing facilities and existing elderly housing through comparison with policies and housing of foreign countries. Based on the results, the the government intends to present characteristics and direction of suitable housing design of senior citizens' housing facilities through maintenance of UNIT, securing convergence through changes in the use of facilities, and realising the cost of operation, and studying social welfare measures to cope with the increasing number of elderly residents.

  • Even if Seoul City administration improved its public transportation service, transportation model share in seoul has not been increased. Subway user is also decreasing. Therefore, policy transition into TOD(Transit Oriented Development) should be applied in oder to enhance subway modal share. This paper develops a influencing model by using variables of transportation demand and supply. In addition, it provides major influencing factors for users in subway station area and level of transportation supply based on the analysis results. The results show that: first, cluster analysis presents that traffic pattern is proved to be different according to land use characteristics(residence, non-residence); second, main transportation variables such as transferring distance, the number of bus stop, the number of short distant bus lines, and the number of bicycle are more supplied in residential area compared to non-residential areas; third, the number of lines, bus dispatching interval, operating time, and distance between subway stations are more supplied in non-residential areas than residential areas. All in all, the results will be useful for providing priority of considerations in case of decision-making on public transportation policy in subway station area.
