Modified Gram-Schmidt Algorithm Using Equivalent Wiener-Hopf Equation (등가의 Wiener-Hopf 방정식을 이용한 수정된 Gram-Schmidt 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes the scheme which obtain the coefficients of TDL filter and two normalization algorithms among methods which get solution of equivalent Wiener-Hopf Equation in Gram-Schmidt algorithm. Compared to the conventional NLMS algorithm, normalizes with sum of power of inputs, the presented algorithms normalize using sums of eigenvalues. Using computer simulation, we perform an system identification in an unstable environment where two poles are located in near position outside unit circle. Consequently, the proposed algorithms get the coefficients of TDL filter in Gram-Schmidt algorithm recursively and show better convergence performance than conventional NLMS algorithm.

  • The paper describes the analysis of large displacement problems including instability phenomena. The element used in this is a degenerated isoparametric shell element with eight nodes. Total Lagrangian formulation has been adopted in this study using Newton-Raphson iteration method with incremental load. The linear stability analyses performed usually for the initial position can be repeated at several advanced fundamental states on the non-linear buckling path. Thus a current estimate of the failure load is given. The numerical examples of a cylindrical panel under uniform load, simply supported plate under axial load, and clamped plate under uniform load are carried out. The examples applying degenerated isoparametric elements to bifurcation buckling and nonlinear collapse problems are also performed.

  • An increase in acoustic energy in a combustion chamber coupled with heat fluctuations from flame results in the occurrence of combustion instability. The assessment of combustion stability requires the prediction of acoustic energy variation by understanding the acoustical characteristics of flow boundaries in a combustion chamber. The present paper discusses about the characteristics of acoustic impedances at boundaries in terms of Strouhal number and summarizes theoretical analyses on the acoustic characteristics of injector-head-like configurations. Also, the details of the two-microphone measurement technique have been presented.

An Investigation of Dynamic Stability of Self-Compensating Dynamic Balancer (자기보상 동적균형기의 동적안정성 연구)

  • Self-Compensating Dynamic Balancer (SCDB) is composed of a circular disk with a groove containing spherical balls and a low viscosity damping fluid. To investigate the stability of the motion equations these equations are perturbed and the resulting perturbation equations are analyzed further to determine whether the perturbations grow or decay with dimensionless time. Based on the results of stability investigation, ball positions that result in a balanced system are stable above the critical speed for .betha.' = 3.8. At critical speed the perturbed motion is said to be stable for .betha.' = 23. However, the system is unstable below critical speed in any case of .betha.'.

  • Conformal mapping is useful to solve problems in physics, engineering and so on. This paper is to discuss the numerical conformal mapping from the unit disk onto Jordan region, which can be solved by Theodorsen equation. Wegmann's method has been known as the most efficient one for the Theodorsen equation. However, we found divergence through numerical experiments by the iterative method of Wegmann. The divergence occurs especially when some degree of difficulty is high. We analyze the cause of divergence and propose an improved method by applying a low frequency pass filter to Wegmann's method. By this proposed method we can get a stable convergence for all the problems which was unstable with the Wegmann's method.

High and Downwardly Rigid Reservation Wages are Responsible for the Youth Joblessness? (청년 고용 문제, 눈높이 때문인가?)

  • This paper criticizes the arguments for the high and rigid reservation wages as main cause of the youth joblessness. First, using longitudinal aspect of the Korea Labor and Income Panel Study, I found that there exists declining reservation wage for the young who make the transition from unemployed to employment. Second, the average duration of school-to-work transition in Korea is relatively low compared to that of other countries. Moreover the duration between leaving school and staring the first job has not significantly negative effect on adult labor market outcomes, but the quality of first job and unstable job experiences have serious negative effects on working career. These findings show that the high youth joblessness is due to both decent job deficit and labor market segmentation.

  • Saint-Venant 방정식은 수평규모가 수심규모보다 큰 천수흐름을 기술하는 수리동역학 모형으로 지난 수십년간 공학적 분야에서 널리 이용되어 왔다. 최근에도 기후변화에 따른 도시 홍수의 위기 증대로 홍수위기관리의 관심이 높아짐에 따라 홍수파(flood wave), 도시침수(urban inundation), 돌발홍수(flash flood) 등의 신속한 예측을 위한 Saint-Venant 방정식의 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그러나 도시와 같은 인공구조물이 즐비한 상황에서 천수흐름을 해석하는 고전적인 수치해법들은 다양한 불연속 지형들의 존재로 인하여 불안정하며 지배방정식의 정해로 수치해가 잘 수렴하지 않는 문제가 있다. 지난 수년간 이를 해결하기 위해 불연속한 지형을 안정적으로 해결할 수 있는 수치기법의 연구가 진행되어 왔으나, 정해로의 수렴성, 정확성에 관하여 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구는 수치해법의 주요 구조를 구성하는 Saint-Venant 방정식의 불연속한 지형조건에 대한 리만 문제의 정해를 연구하였다. 쌍곡선형 시스템의 특징을 고려하여 요소파들(elementary waves)의 공식을 유도하였는데, 질량과 에너지의 보존법칙에 위배되지 않으며 운동량이송부의 비선형성과 지형의 불연속에 의한 비엄격성을 고려할 수 있는 조건을 제시하였다. 또한, 유도된 요소파들을 바탕으로 L-M & R-M 커브이론(Han et al. 2014)을 사용할 수 있는 조건과 당위성을 증명하였고, 이를 바탕으로 Saint-Venant 방정식의 정해법을 구성하였다. 리만문제의 다양한 초기조건들을 바탕으로 모든 경우의 정해 구조를 조사하였고, 이를 통해 불연속 지형에 대한 Saint-Venant 지배방정식의 정해가 다수해를 갖을 수 있음을 보였으며, 이를 근사할 수 있는 수치기법의 전략을 소개하였다.

Varieties of Community Unionism: A Comparison between the Youth Community Union and the Arbeit Workers' Union in South Korea (커뮤니티유니온의 다양성: 청년유니온과 아르바이트노동조합의 비교연구)

  • As the number of precariats grows, their poor labor rights and working conditions are becoming issues of major concern all over the world but how to represent their interests is still controversial. Basically, the union is the institutional mechanism for representing the labor rights. However, it is difficult for workplaceand enterprise-based unions to fully represent the labor rights of precarious workers. Recently, so-called community unions have emerged in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan as independent organizations representing the rights of non-standard workers. Community unions refer to labor unions which organize precarious workers across firms at the regional level. They are known to be suitable for covering the unemployed, job seekers, indirect employment workers, short-term contract workers, and small-firm workers. In South Korea, since the financial crisis in 1997, a dramatic increase in the number of precariats leads to emergence of new types of trade unions such as the Youth Community Union, the Arbeit Workers' Union, the Artist Social Union and the Korea Musician's Union. They have engaged in various activities to guarantee the labor rights of precariats. Recently, researchers have also tried to identify defining characteristics of these new forms of unionism. To expand research on trade unionism in South Korea, this study compares two different types of community unions: the Youth Community Union and the Arbeit Workers' Union. We believe that this attempt can contribute to the research on the alternative labor movement. For this purpose, this study starts with theoretical discussions on community unions, and compares the Youth Community Union with the Arbeit Workers' Union based on the five characteristics of community unionism: membership and organization structure, the recognition struggle, the type or scope of interest, solidarity with other civic organizations, and the repertoire of resistance strategies. Based on this comparative analysis, this study seeks to foresee the possibility of how community unionism will develop in South Korean in the future.

Numerical Study on Rayleigh-Taylor Instability Using a Multiphase Moving Particle Simulation Method (다상유동형 입자법을 이용한 Rayleigh-Taylor 불안정성의 수치해석)

  • Complexity of multiphase flows due to existence of more than two interface including free-surface in one system, cannot be simulated easily. Since more than two fluids affect to flows and disturb interface, non-linearities such as instabilities can be appeared. Among several instabilities on multiphase flows, one of representative is Rayleigh-taylor instability. In order to examine in importance of density disparity, several cases with numerous Atwood number are set. Moreover, investigation of influence on initial disturbance were also considered. Moving particle simulation (MPS) method, which was employed in this paper, was not widely used for multiphase problem. In this study, by adding new particle interaction models such as self-buoyance correction, surface tension, and boundary condition at interface models, MPS were developed having more strength of physics and robust. By applying newly developed multiphase MPS, considered cases are performed and compared each other. Additionally, though existence of disagreement of magnitude of rising velocity between theoretical values from linear potential theory and that of numerical simulation, agreement of tendency can be proved of similarity of result. the discordance of magnitude can be explained due to non-linear effects on numerical simulation which was not considered in theoretical result.

A Comprehensive Groundwater Modeling using Multicomponent Multiphase Theory: 1. Development of a Multidimensional Finite Element Model (다중 다상이론을 이용한 통합적 지하수 모델링: 1. 다차원 유한요소 모형의 개발)

  • An integrated model is presented to describe underground flow and mass transport, using a multicomponent multiphase approach. The comprehensive governing equation is derived considering mass and force balances of chemical species over four phases(water, oil, air, and soil) in a schematic elementary volume. Compact and systemati notations of relevant variables and equations are introduced to facilitate the inclusion of complex migration and transformation processes, and variable spatial dimensions. The resulting nonlinear system is solved by a multidimensional finite element code. The developed code with dynamic array allocation, is sufficiently flexible to work across a wide spectrum of computers, including an IBM ES 9000/900 vector facility, SP2 cluster machine, Unix workstations and PCs, for one-, two and three-dimensional problems. To reduce the computation time and storage requirements, the system equations are decoupled and solved using a banded global matrix solver, with the vector and parallel processing on the IBM 9000. To avoide the numerical oscillations of the nonlinear problems in the case of convective dominant transport, the techniques of upstream weighting, mass lumping, and elementary-wise parameter evaluation are applied. The instability and convergence criteria of the nonlinear problems are studied for the one-dimensional analogue of FEM and FDM. Modeling capacity is presented in the simulation of three dimensional composite multiphase TCE migration. Comprehesive simulation feature of the code is presented in a companion paper of this issue for the specific groundwater or flow and contamination problems.
