The Discourse for Academic Generation of 'School library Education Science' (문헌정보교육학의 학문적 생성 담론)

  • This study presents the discourse for academic generation of 'School Library Education Science' based on integrative research between library & information science and education science. The study discusses research fields and themes of 'School Library Education Science' as the base to define the roles of the school library and of teacher-librarians. It contributes to upgrading the research level of the school library. The research field in the school library analyzes and integrates both aspects of library & information science and of education science. The developed theories of 'School Library Education Science' present Library-Based Education and Library-Based Learning, Base Connectionism, Base Integrationism, Top456 Approach, Curriculum-Based Approach, Viewpoint Approach, and Education of Information and the Library as a Subject Matter. The trends in research of the school library analyze the thesis numbers of academic journals. The future research challenges of 'School Library Education Science' discuss the educational basics of the school library, operational management, electronic school libraries, and educational activities. Conclusively, this study analyzes the current situation of the school library & of teacher-librarians in Korea, and provides its solution by the aspects of 'School Library Education Science'.

  • In the society of lifelong learning, a school library has to play an important educational role in improving self-directed learning ability that school education is seeking. First of all, This study makes it clear that the goal of school library use education is to develop self-directed learning ability. It carries out a research into the present condition of school library use education which is an important educational role of a school library. A Literature Review on User Instruction of Korean Academic Libraries (대학도서관 이용자교육에 관한 국내 연구의 특징과 과제)

  • This article reviews the research products on user instruction of Korean university libraries. The focus is on identifying the trend, main features, and limitations of the relevant literature, with emphasis on both contents and methodology. To the end, 127 journal articles and theses are collected and analyzed, which have been produced since the mid-1970s. As a result, it is recognized the advanced research are not useful enough to be a knowledge base of Korean reference librarians, who have endeavored to improve the qualities of their user instruction programs. Above all, the advanced research turned out to be too much dependent on American theories and practices, instead of focusing on both indigenous phenomena and substantial problems which have been inherent in Korean university libraries.

Investigating Change of Users' Perception of Privacy Pre- and Post-Education on Library User Privacy (도서관이용자프라이버시에 대한 교육전후의 이용자인식변화 분석 연구)

  • Library users must provide their personal information to libraries. This study surveyed these library users' perception of privacy and the effect of the education after providing library user privacy education. As a result, first, it was found that after education, users were more interested in their privacy, rated the problem of library user privacy as more severe, and rated library user data collection as more likely to be considered privacy invasion. Second, we investigated users' perception of how much user service records being collected in libraries violate users' privacy, which showed a great perception change in 25 questions after the education. Third, in the survey about library and librarians' efforts for protecting library user privacy, it was found that all 15 questions were rated as significantly more important after education. Fourth, library users have recognized that is necessary to process and handle the library record and are more sympathetic to the need for this procedure. Fifth, library users felt the possibility of a library record leak was a very serious threat.

  • This study focuses on whether early childhood education institutes operate libraries and find out if those environments are suitable for reading, and to investigate on educations on reading by utilizing libraries and how it's perceived by surveying and analyzing. As a result, it was found that there were higher rate of institutions with active libraries and as for the reasons for needing an assigned librarian were found to be in the order of 'to educate young children for reading' and 'for the systematic management of books'. Points of necessity for the efficient reading education was found to be 'establishing of staff system with professional knowledge' and 'development of reading education programs.'

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze and look for improvement points of the ordinance for school libraries and reading education in Korea. For the purpose, the writer analyzed 15 ordinances of metropolitan city and provincial offices of eduction. The ordinance content were examined in terms of obligation of superintendents of education and principals, committees and administration department, reading promotion and education, and school libraries. According to the examination the writer discussed about effectiveness enhancement, operating integrated type ordinance, connections of school libraries and reading education and curriculum, and reflection of information literacy education.

  • 이 대담 시리즈는 학교도서관에 대한 도서관계 안팎의 관심을 높이고 현단계 학교도서관 운동이 나아갈 길을 모색해보려는 취지에서 시도된 것이다. 과거 학교도서관 운동을 주도하였거나 오랫동안 학교도서관 현장을 지켜온 인물들을 찾아 그들의 경험과 의식 속에 쌓여 있는 역사를 끌어내어 오늘을 비추어 보고 내일을 전망하는 계기로 삼을 것이다. 이번 대담에서 만난 사람은 우리 나라 학교도서관 운동의 초창기에 많은 활동을 한 조재후 선생이다. 선생은 부산중, 경남여고, 부산고 등에서 10년간 (1953-1963) 사서교사로 활동하면서 학교도서관 운동의 지평을 넓히는데 크게 기여하였으며 부산시 교육위원회 연구사 및 장학사(1963-1972), 문교부 중앙 시청 각교육원 연구관(1972-1973), 문교부 장학관 (1973-1975), 서울시 동부 교육구청장(1980-1982) 등으로 활동하셨다. 또한 영등포중, 혜화여고, 용산공고, 경기상고 등에서 교장으로 재직하시고 정년퇴임후 현재 서울 정화여자상업고등학교 교장으로 재직하고 계신다. 대담 일시 : 1998년 5월 2일 오전9시 30분 - 오전 11시 30분 대담 장소 : 서울 정화여상 교장실

A Study on Modeling Digital library for Informatization of School Education (학교교육 정보화를 위한 디지털 도서관 모형에 관한 연구)

  • There were two purpose of this study. One was to develope a digital library as a way of facilitating students\` learning. The other was to design a model of a digital library for school. For this, current Korean educational information network plan and the problems of school libraries were analyzed first. Second, the role of school library was identified: to build a self-motivated learning environment in an information society and to help students developing creative learning abilities. Finally, a model of digital school library was suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to review today's development trends of library bibliographic instruction through historical assessment of U.S. university library bibliographic instruction development pattern. And the results of this study may be used in implementing the university library bibliographic instruction program in Korea. The major conclusions of this study are summarized as follows: . A Study on the School Library Staffs'Perceptions on the Operation of Elementary School Library User Education (초등학교 도서관 이용자교육에 대한 전담인력의 인식조사 연구)

  • This study aims to investigate and analyze the current status of user education and the school library staffs' perceptions in elementary school libraries in Gyeongnam, and then to propose a plan to improve user education in school libraries. Among the 168 school libraries in the Gyeongsangnam-do where librarians are deployed, 120 that responded to the survey were selected as research subjects. The contents of the study include the contents and methods of user education, the status of librarian education for user education, school library staffs understanding and interest in user education, school library staffs' perceptions of the necessity and effectiveness of user education, and school library staffs' efforts to strengthen capacity of user education. Based on the current status of user education and the results of the school library staffs' perceptions survey, the following are proposed as a way to improve user education of the school library: 1) expanding librarian education opportunities for user education, 2) development and distribution of educational materials that diversify the content and level of each grade, 3) organizing normal school hours for user education, 4) continuous efforts to strengthen capacity for user education.
