  • The concept of self efficacy, originally theorized by Bandura, has been applied to a wide variety of fields including education, psychology, and business. There has been steady effort to develop relevant scales to operationalize and measure self efficacy. This article reports on the results from an analysis of Kurbanoglu's ILSES (Information Literacy Self-Efficacy Scale), the only reported such scale in the area of information literacy. Over 400 university students responded to the ILSES survey consisting of 40 items grouped in six categories. The main analysis used was factor analysis. The results show high degree of internal consistency of the items included. However, the factors derived from the study differ significantly from the factors in the original study. Overall, these factors seem to reflect the heuristic nature of students' information seeking and use patterns, favoring Internet resources and instant gratification.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of teaching methods among elementary school math teachers in terms of student achievement in examinations. Results are based upon data from two elementary schools. The evaluation criteria of fifteen items was modified from Ryang's original MTEBI sixteen items to measure elementary school teachers' math teaching efficacy. The result of this study could be summarized as follows. The students were divided into two groups according to teaching efficiency: higher teaching efficiency and lower teaching efficiency. A comparison of math tests taken by students from these groups demonstrates a significant statistical difference. Students with teachers in the lower efficiency group are likely to under-perform. In consequence, teachers' self-efficiency in math is considered to affect students' learning achievement in mathematics.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify menopausal resilience in middle-aged women. The data were collected from 227 middle-aged women who participated in friendship and religious activities in the Jeonbuk province. The data were collected through self-report questionnaires, which were constructed to Self-efficacy, family support, social support, menopausal adaptation, resilience. Data were analyzed using frequencies, means, $X^2$_Test, pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 23. Regular exercise(${\beta}=-.15$, p<.01), self-efficacy(${\beta}=.29$, p=<.001), social support(${\beta}=.29$, p=<.001), menopausal Adaptation(${\beta}=.17$, p<.01) were influencing factors and these variables showed an explanatory power of 35.3% (F=18.65, p<.001). Therefore, it is suggested that middle-aged women in menopause can plan to overcome the menopausal crisis positively through nursing interventions that include self-efficacy and social support.

  • The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of dance sports for twelve weeks on physical self-efficacy in post-menopausal depression obese women. A total 38 women participated in this study, and they were divided into three groups: mild-depression group(n=9), light-depression group(n=14) and control group(n=15). For the exercise program in this study, a dance sports program performed at an intensity of heart rate reserve 50~80%, 60 minutes of exercise time, and the frequency of 3 times a week. Physical self-efficacy for mild-depression group after 12-week dance sports program was significantly increased compared to before the exercise. Although light-depression group and control group didn't show significant increase in physical self-efficacy, dance sports is expected to act positively on mental stability, such as depression and hope used as an effective tool to improve the quality of life. Furthermore, we expect a convergence is achieved between the sports science and medical research sectors.

  • This study empirically studied the factors affecting the intensity of use of mobile social media and fatigue. Theories for the research framework were based on the theory of planned behavior, the theory of private information protection, the theory of flow, and the theory of process incentives. As a result of data analysis, it was found that self-efficacy, user habits, and flow experience positively influence the intensity of mobile social media use. This study assumed that personal information protection issues negatively affect the intensity of mobile social media use, but have little influence on the use intensity. The intensity of media use had a positive effect on media fatigue. In other words, when the intensity of using mobile social media increased, the feeling of fatigue increased. The expected process incentives variable did not show a moderating effect between media use intensity and social media fatigue. The findings will have implications for social media-related companies and organizations that want to use social media tools for business and public services.

  • This study examines factors influencing stress and depression among Korean and Japanese university students and the role that parental social support, resiliency of efficacy and stress management behavior play. Four hypotheses are presented. First, parental social support will have a direct influence on resiliency of efficacy. Second, resiliency of efficacy will have a direct influence on stress management behavior and stress and depression symptoms. Third, resiliency of efficacy will have a mediating influence between parental social support and stress and depression symptoms. Fourth, stress management behavior will have a direct influence on stress and depression symptoms. A total 469 participants, consisting of 289 Korean university students (male=156, female=133) and 180 Japanese university students (male=112, female=68) completed a questionnaire that included Rhode Island Stress Inventory-Short Version (Horiuchi, Tsuda, Tanaka, Yajima & Tsuda, in press), Stress Management Behavior (Evers et al., 2006), CES-D (Radloff, 1977), BDI-II (Beck, Steer & Brown, 1996), Resiliency of Efficacy (Bandura, 1995) and Parental Social Support (Kim & Park, 1999). The results supported the first three hypotheses for both samples. Hypothesis 4 was not supported for the Japanese sample and it was partially supported for the Korean sample. The results indicate that parental social support had a direct and positive influence on resiliency of efficacy. Second, resiliency of efficacy had a direct and positive influence on stress management behavior and stress and depression symptoms. Third, resiliency of efficacy had a mediating influence between parental social support and stress and depression symptoms. Fourth, stress management behavior did not have a direct influence on stress symptoms. Overall, parental social support had a direct positive influence on resiliency of self-efficacy, which in turn had a direct negative influence on stress and depression symptoms.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of 'activity program for effective storytelling' on the empathic ability and language teaching efficacy of a story grandmother. The subjects were 51 beautiful story grandmothers in Gangwon, Gyeongsangdo and Seoul. The research tools used the emotional empathy scale of Jeon(2003), and language teaching efficacy scale of Kim and Lee(2011). As for the research procedure, from March 06 to July 27, 2017, an 'activity program for effective storytelling' was conducted. For data analysis, a t-test of the corresponding sample was conducted to find the difference between the pre- and post-scores of the two variables. As a result of the study, first, the cognitive empathy ability between the story grandmother and the young children after applying the 'activity program for effective storytelling' was higher than that of the dictionary. Second, the language teaching efficacy between the story grandmother and the young children after applying the 'activity program for effective storytelling' was higher than that of the dictionary. Therefore, the 'activity program for effective storytelling' suggests that there is a positive effect on improving the cognitive empathic ability and language teaching efficacy of the story grandmothers.
