The Effect of ASMR on Anxiety, Stress, Sleep quality in University Students (ASMR이 대학생의 불안, 스트레스, 수면의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aims to understand the effects of ASMR(The Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) intervention on university students' anxiety, stress and sleep quality. Method: This study was designed as a One-group pretest-posttest design to measure the effect of ASMR on university students' anxiety, stress and sleep quality. Among university students in the Seoul metropolitan area, 30 students who agreed to the study were selected. Data analysis was performed using SPSS for window version 23.0. Results: The experimental group that provided ASMR intervention showed statistically significant results in levels of anxiety and stress. After ASMR intervention, the experimental group showed statistically significant effects on anxiety(t=5.12, p<.001) (t=5.15, p<.001), stress(t=5.13, p<.001)and sleep quality(t=7.34, p<.001). Conclusion: This study confirms that ASMR has a positive effect on anxiety, stress and sleep quality of university students. Based on these results, it is expected that further research will be conducted on scientific and differentiated ASMR mediation.

The Correlation between School-life Stress, Depression and College Adjustment Residing in the Dormitory (기숙사 거주 대학생의 학교생활 스트레스, 우울 및 대학생활적응 간의 관계)

  • This study was conducted to identify the correlation between the school-life stress, depression and college adjustment of dormitory residents, in order to provide the basic data needed to establish a strategy to improve the adjustment of college students. The subjects were 210 students in Korea. The data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from September 13 to 19, 2014, and analyzed by frequency, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation using the SPSS Win 21 program. The school-life stress, depression and college adjustment of the students residing in the dormitory on a 5-point scale were 2.43, 1.88 and 3.81, respectively. School-life stress had a significant positive correlation with depression (r=.639, p<.001) and significant negative correlation with college adjustment (r=-.709, p<.001). Depression had a significant negative correlation with college adjustment (r=-.788, p<.001). Those students with a higher school-life stress showed higher levels of depression and lower levels of college adjustment. Those students with a higher level of depression showed a lower level of college adjustment. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and test a suitable program in order to understand the differences between psychological adjustment based on gender, and to decrease school-life stress and depression and increase college adjustment.

Quality of Sleep and Affecting Factors according to Gender in College Students (대학생의 성별에 따른 수면의 질과 영향요인)

  • The purpose of this study is to measure quality of sleep (PSQI) and to investigate the affecting factors according to sex in college students. The participants in this study were 214 students from 4 universities. The data were analyzed by t-test, chi-square test and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 24.0 program. The mean score of quality of sleep was 2.83, for male students are 2.70 and female students 3.06. In multiple regression analysis, physical stress, psychological stress and exercise were significant predictors and explained 25.4% of quality of sleep for male students. In female students, physical stress, psychological stress and drinking were significant predictors and explained 39.2% of quality of sleep. It is necessary to develop and apply education and counseling that can solve factors affecting the quality of sleep of college students.

The Relationship between Academic Stress and Major Satisfaction of University Students: Factors Affecting Self-Effectiveness and Social Support (대학생의 학업스트레스와 전공만족도의 관계 : 자기효능감과 사회적 지지의 영향요인)

  • This study also examined the influence of academic stress on major satisfaction of college students and the influence of self-efficacy and social support. The subjects of this study were 320 students attending K university in B city. The 295 questionnaires were collected and 291 questionnaires were finally analyzed except for 4 questionnaires that were insufficient. Major satisfaction had a statistically significant negative correlation with academic stress, and major satisfaction had a statistically significant positive correlation with self-efficacy. Also, major satisfaction had a statistically significant positive correlation with social support. Finally, as a result of examining the effects of each factor, academic stress, self-efficacy, and social support had a significant effect on major satisfaction except for informational support in social support. In order to increase the satisfaction of college students, it is necessary to study the factors that can lower academic stress and develop the program accordingly. It is necessary to develop educational methods and programs that can increase self-efficacy and social support. This is considered to have a positive effect on the satisfaction of college students.

The Impacts of Job-Seeking Stress, Career Decision-Making self Efficacy and Social Support on mental health of University Students (대학생의 취업스트레스, 진로결정 자기효능감 및 사회적 지지가 정신건강에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact on mental health of university students from job-seeking stress, career decision-making, and social support. 429 university students from the three universities in J province were instructed to answer structured questionnaires, and the data was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation, and Regression analysis using SPSS 24.0 software. The results reveal that job-seeking stress shows positive correlation to mental health, whereas career decision-making and social support show statistically significant negative correlations. The results also show that the factors that affect mental health are job-seeking stress and social support with Exploratory power of 48.9%. It is necessary to develop and apply measures that consider impact factors such as job-seeking stress to improve mental health of university students. It is also important to establish and maintain a support system for mental health.

Impact of Stress on Physical and Temporomandibular Joint Symptoms in Health-Related Majoring students (보건계열 대학생의 스트레스가 신체적 증상 및 턱관절증상에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the stress of health-related majoring students on their physical and temporomandibular joint symptoms. The subjects were 283 college students in Chungcheongnam-do province from September 1 to November 30, 2012. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0(SPSS 18.0 K for window, SPSS Inc, USA) with the level of significance as 0.05. The findings of the study were as follows: There were significant differences among the university students in stress according to age, academic year, smoking and snack intake. Significant differences were found in digestive symptoms according to gender, academic year, drinking and snack intake, and there were significant differences in temporomandibular joint symptoms. Stress had a significant correlation to physical symptoms and temporomandibular joint symptoms. As for the influence of stress on physical symptoms and temporomanbular joint symptoms. In this study, how to help college students to relieve stress in a sound manner, to promote their physical, mental and oral health and ultimately to lead a sound college life should carefully be considered.

The Effects of Loving-Kindness Meditation Intervention with Tea on the Mindfulness, Resilience, and Stress of College Students (자비명상이 대학생들의 마음챙김, 회복 탄력성 및 스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effect of loving-kindness meditation intervention on the mindfulness, resilience and stress of college students. Thirty students not receiving any training in meditation intervention were randomly divided into meditation (15 subjects) and control (15 subjects)groups. The meditation group underwent meditation for 10 weeks, once a week, about 80 minutes each time. The results revealed that the experimental group showed significant improvement effect on mindfulness, resilience, and stress compared to the control group. It was concluded that loving-kindness meditation can effectively improve mindfulness, resilience and stress for college students.

The Influence of Perceived Stress on Subjective Well-being: The Mediating Effect of Resilience and Spiritual Experience (기독대학생의 지각된 스트레스가 주관적 웰빙에 미치는 영향: 회복탄력성과 영적 경험의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze mediating effect of resilience and daily spiritual experiences in the relationship of stress situations and subjective well-being of Christian college students. The subjects of this study were 157 Christian college students in a certain University which is located in Seoul, and mediating effect were analyzed through structural equation model. As a result of the analysis, first, there was a significant negative correlation between perceived stress and subject well-being. Second, resilience and spiritual experience had a full mediating effect on the relationship of perceived stress and subjective well-being. Third, in the relationship of perceived stress and subjective well-being, indirect effect through resilience has a greater mediating effect than spiritual daily experience. Implications of these results were concluded that spiritual daily experience of Christian college students is a significant variable in terms of stress and happiness. Apart from spiritual experience, however, resilience also could be a very important variable that mediates stress and happiness for Christian college students. In addition, suggestions for future research were discussed.

Differences of Social Anxiety and Stress Coping Style by Self-Efficacy in College Students (대학생의 자기효능감 수준에 따른 대인불안과 스트레스 대처방식 차이)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in social anxiety and stress coping style by the college students' levels of self-efficacy. The convenience sample consisted of 400 college students in six universities. The data were collected from May to June in 2013 using the following instruments: the Self-Efficacy Scale, the Interaction Anxiousness Scale and the Ways of Coping Questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data using SPSS 21.0. Self-efficacy was found to have negative relation with social anxiety and positive relation with active coping style while social anxiety was negatively related to active coping style and positively to passive coping style. There were differences in social anxiety and stress coping style in accordance with the level of self-efficacy. The higher group in self-efficacy used more active coping than the lower group. The support and intervention program to increase self-efficacy would be effective in decreasing social anxiety and increasing active coping style among college students.

Mediating Effect of Smartphone Addiction Predisposition on the Relationship between Perceived Stress and Health-Promoting Lifestyle in University Students (대학생의 지각된 스트레스와 건강증진 생활양식 간의 관계에서 스마트폰 중독성향의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this convergence study was to examine whether smartphone addiction predisposition mediated the relationship between perceived stress and health-promoting lifestyle in university students. A total of 332 subjects, recruited from a university in Seoul, participated by completing a survey which included questions about perceived stress, health-promoting lifestyle and smartphone addiction predisposition. As are result of the analysis, perceived stress had a significant positive effect on smartphone addiction predisposition. Perceived stress and smartphone addiction predisposition had significant negative effect on health-promoting lifestyle. Therefore, smartphone addiction predisposition had a mediating effect within the relationship of perceived stress and health-promoting lifestyle. Based on these results, we discussed the necessity of managing the stress and smartphone addiction to improve the health-promoting lifestyle of university students.
