  • Many efforts for finding smooth curves and surfaces satisfying given constraints have been made, and interpolation and approximation theories with the help of computers have played an important role in this endeavour. Most research in curve and surface modeling has been largely dominated by the theory of parametric representations. While they have been successfully used in representing physical objects, parametric surfaces are confronted with some problems when objects are represented and manipulated in geometric modeling systems. In recent year, increasing attention has been paid to implicit algebraic surfaces since they are often more effective than parametric surfaces are. In this paper, we summarize the geometric properties and computational processes of objects represented using implicit algebraic functions and explain of the implementation of design tools which can design curves and surfaces of revolution. These surfaces of revolution are played an importance role in effective areas such as CAD and CAM.

  • This study is on the teaching-learning of parameter concept in secondary school mathematics. In our school mathematics curriculum, parameter concept is explicitly presented at high school mathematics textbook. But student have difficulty in understanding parameter concept because this concept is implicitly used in the textbook from 7-grade mathematics. Moreover, it is true that mathematics teacher give a little attention to student's understanding of parameter con- cept. In this study, we analyzed concept definition of parameter and the extension of parameter on the basis of preceding research, our mathematical curriculum, mathematical dictionaries. After that, we concluded that parameter is explicitly called in t where x= f(t), y= g(t) and parameter is implicitly treated in the learning of relation between quantities in our mathematical curriculum. We pointed to the importance of parameter concept in the successful learning of school algebra. Specially, when the level of algebra is in the learning of relation between quantities, parameter is the key concept for understanding and representing of families of equations or functions. In mathematics class, students have opportunity to reflect that what the role of each variable(parameter, dependent variable, independent variable etc.) is, and where the information which determines it comes from. It is for mathematical communications as well as learning school algebra. Therefore, mathematics teacher's didactical attention is more needed to student have a good concept image of parameter before they learn explicitly its concept definition.

  • This paper proposes a real-time application of Walsh functions which is based on the on-line Walsh transformation and on-line Walsh function's differential operation. In the existing method of orthogonal functions, a major disadvantage is that process signals need to be recorded prior to obtaining their expansions. This paper proposes a novel method of Walsh transformation to overcome this shortcoming. And the proposed method apply to the unknown inputs observer(UIO) design for linear time-invariant dynamical systems

  • This paper presents a quasi-analytical method using integral equations to obtain head distributions in unsaturated porous media with different hydrogeologic properties. One-dimensional soultion algorithms were developed for two cases of boundary conditions at the top: 1) constant head and 2) constant flux. Water table elevation at the bottom was assumed known for both cases. The methodology was applied to a fly ash disposal facility in an alluvium area. The results showed that the pressure head distributions had high nonlinearity with large gradients slightly above the interface of two media which made preliminary numerical solutions implausible. The developed method helped to structure finite element grids for improving convergence and accuracy.

  • Prediction performances by Einstein's equation of diffusivity, Peskin's model, Three-Equation model, Four-Equation model and Algebraic Stress Model, have been compared by analyzing twophase (air-solid) turbulent jet flow. Turbulent kinetic energy equation of dispersed phase was solved to investigate effects of turbulent kinetic energy on turbulent diffusivity. Turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate of particles has been considered by solving turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate equation of dispesed phase and applying it to turbulent diffusivity of dispersed phase. Results show that turbulent diffusivity of dispersed phase can be expressed by turbulent kinetic energy ratio between phases and prediction of turbulent kinetic energy was improved by considering turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate of dispersed phase for modelling turbulent diffusivity. This investigation also show that Algebraic Stress Model is the most promising method in analyzing gas-solid two phaes turbulent flow.

  • Numerical Predictions including secondary flows have been Performed for fully developed turbulent single-phase rod bundle flows. The k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model(two equation model) for the isotropic eddy viscosity, together with an algebraic stress model for generating secondary velocities, enabled the prediction of mean axial velocities, secondary velocities, and turbulent kinetic energy and turbulent stresses. Comparisons with experiment hate shown that the influence of secondary motion on mean flow and turbulence is dearly evident. The convective transport effects of secondary flow on the velocity field have been identified.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a program for the automatic derivation of the symbolic equations necessary for the kinematic and dynamic analyses of the spatial mechanism. For this purpose, a symbolic manipulation package called MCSYMA is used. Every symbolic equation is formulated using relative joint coordinate to obtain the numerically efficient system equations. These equations are produced in FORTRAN statements and linked to a FORTRAN program for numerical analysis. Several examples are taken for comparison with the commercial package called DADS which is using Cartesian coordinate approach. Also, this symbolic formulation approach is compared with a conventional numerical approach for an example. The results show that this symbolic approach with relative joint coordinate system is most efficient in computational time among three and is recommended for the derivation of macro elements frequently used.

  • A new constitutive model is proposed for normally consolidated clays. A main skeleton of the proposed model is based on the concepts of the incremental stress-strain theory by Roscoe and Poorooshasb. The equation of the undrained stress path is formulated by introducing the new pore pressure parameter(C), which is the slope of the linear line in the plot of the normalized pore pressure against the stress ratio. Once the stress increment along the constant stress ratio path (followed by untrained stress path) is know, the volumetric strains are calculated from the linear characteristics between void ratio and logarithm of the mean normal stress for any stress ratio. Then the incremental shear strains are successfully predicted by applying the flow rule derived in the modified theory by Roscoe and Burland.

  • Numerical experiments of sballow water equations are performed under various boundary conditions by finite element method to simulate the circulation in estuaries and coastal areas. Galerkin method is employed to discretize spatial domain, and for time integration, finite difference method (Crank-Nicolson scheme) is used. This method is tested in five problems, in which first four cases have analytic solutions. The computed values are well in agreement with the analytic solutions in four experiments and the result of the last 2-dimensional ease is resonable. Implicit and two step Lax-Wendroff schemes in time domain are compared, and the results when using four node bilinear and triangular elements are presented. Consequently it takes very long time for complex problems requiring many elements to integrate all the time steps using the implicit schemes. And the explicit scheme requires careful consideration in selecting the time step and the grid size to obtain the desired accuracy.

  • Since a turbomachine has complex flow characteristics, which are caused by adverse pressure gradient and high speed motion, an elaborate turbulence model is needed to accurately predict the flow. Some turbulence models such as an algebraic or a two-equation eddy viscosity model have been used for in-house RANS-code, but it is difficult to obtain good result for several complex flows. In this study, Durbin's V2-F turbulence model, which has been known for better prediction for severe flow separation, is applied to T-Flow. It was validated for simple cases such as channel and compressor cascade, and its applicability to turbomachinery was shown by analyzing internal flow of a single rotor. As a result, the V2-F turbulence model shows better blade surface pressure distribution than the one-and-two equation turbulence model.
