  • The electrospun PVDF containing CNT was made for fabricating materials of the actuator. The electrochemical and their actuating movement were evaluated for the actuator performance in the electrochemical environment. The actuator (which was fabricated by electrospinning) had some advantages, i.e., good dispersion and flexible properties. In the electrospinning process, the final product would have different forms based on different essential factors. In this work, electrospun nanofibers were aligned by using the drum-type collector, and the morphology was identified via the field emission-scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The uniform dispersion of CNT in PVDF nanofiber was observed by electron probe X-ray micro-analysis (EPMA) test. The results of tensile strength and electrical resistivity provided the aligned state. The electrospun CNT/PVDF nanofiber sheet on the aligned direction showed better mechanical and electrical properties than the case of the vertically-aligned direction. The efficiency and electrical capacities of electrospun CNT/PVDF nanofiber sheets were compared with the cast PVDF sheet for actuator application. Electrospun CNT/PVDF nanofiber sheet exhibited much better the case of actuator performance than cast neat PVDF actuator, due to the excellent electrical connecting areas.

  • In this work, ultrathin and two-dimensional (2D) cobalt hydroxide [Co(OH)2] nanosheets were synthesized by a sonication assisted liquid-phase exfoliation of bulk Co(OH)2. The resulting exfoliated Co(OH)2 is a hexagonal mono-layered nanosheet with a high specific surface area of 27.5 ㎡ g-1. The depolymerization of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) based on glycolysis reaction was also performed using an exfoliated Co(OH)2 catalyst. Excellent catalytic reaction performances were demonstrated; a high PET conversion and bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) yield of both 100% using the nanosheet catalyst were achieved within a reaction time and temperature of 30 min and 200 ℃, respectively. The long-term stability of exfoliated Co(OH)2 catalysts was also demonstrated by recyclability tests of the catalyzed glycolysis reaction of PET over four cycles, showing both 100% of high PET conversion and BHET yield.

  • This research has been carried out to investigate the characteristics of cellulose nanofibers manufactured from domestic lignocellulosic materials by mechanical grinding method. The continuous grinding process was effective for loosening cell wall structure, with increasing grinding time, much smaller nanofibers were observed. Filtration time was linearly increased with increasing grinding time for all experimental materials. Relative crystallinity of cellulose was not changed by grinding process, but increased by delignification treatment. Tensile property of fiber sheets was drastically improved with increasing grinding time. Fibers sheets obtained from delignified cone stalks showed an excellent tensile strength. Consequently, it is considered that this study presented some effective information for manufacturing cellulose nanofibers with domestic plantation resources.

  • Vanadium dioxide, $VO_2$, is a thermochromic material that exhibits a reversible metal-insulator phase transition at $68^{\circ}C$, which accompanies rapid changes in the optical and electronic properties. To decrease the transition temperature around room temperature, a number of studies have been performed. The phase transition temperature of 1D nanowire $VO_2$ with a 100 nm diameter was reported to be approximately $29^{\circ}C$. In this study, 1D or 2D nanostructured $VO_2$ was grown using the vapor transport method. Vanadium dioxide has a different morphology with the same growth conditions for different substrates. The 1D nanowires $VO_2$ were grown on a Si substrate ($Si{\setminus}SiO_2$(300 nm), whereas the 2D & 3D nanostructured $VO_2$ were grown on an exfoliated graphene nanosheet. The crystallographic properties of the 1D or 2D & 3D nanostructured $VO_2$, which were grown by thermal CVD, and exfoliated-transferred graphene nanosheets on a Si wafer which was used as substrate for the vanadium oxide nanostructures, were analyzed by Raman spectroscopy. The as-grown vanadium oxide nanostructures have a $VO_2$ phase, which are confirmed by Raman spectroscopy.

  • High thermal conductivity films with electrically insulating properties have a great potential for the effective heat transfer as substrate and thermal interface materials in high density and high power electronic packages. There have been lots of studies to achieve high thermal conductivity composites using high thermal conductivity fillers such alumina, aluminum nitride, boron nitride, CNT and graphene, recently. Among them, hexagonal-boron nitride (h-BN) nano-sheet is a promising candidate for high thermal conductivity with electrically insulating filler material. This work presents an enhanced heat transfer properties of ceramic/polymer composite films using h-BN nano-sheets and PVA polymer resins. The h-BN nano-sheets were prepared by a mechanical exfoliation of h-BN flakes using organic media and subsequent ultrasonic treatment. High thermal conductivities over $2.8W/m{\cdot}K$ for transverse and $10W/m{\cdot}K$ for in-plane direction of the cast films were achieved for casted h-BN/PVA composite films. Further improvement of thermal conductivity up to $13.5W/m{\cdot}K$ at in-plane mode was achieved by applying uniaxial compression at the temperature above glass transition of PVA to enhance the alignment of the h-BN nano-sheets.

  • In this study, we examined the quasi-nonvolatile memory characteristics of silicon nanosheet (SiNS) feedback field-effect transistors (FBFETs) fabricated using a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor process. The SiNS channel layers fabricated by photoresist overexposure method had a width of approximately 180 nm and a height of 70 nm. The SiNS FBFETs operated in a positive feedback loop mechanism and exhibited an extremely low subthreshold swing of 1.1 mV/dec and a high ON/OFF current ratio of 2.4×107. Moreover, SiNS FBFETs represented long retention time of 50 seconds, indicating the quasi-nonvolatile memory characteristics.

  • In this study, we examined the effects of annealing on electrical characteristics of double-gated silicon nanosheet (SiNS) feedback field effect transistors (FBFETs). When bias stresses were applied for 1000 s, the double-gated SiNS FBFETs were more affected by positive bias stresses than negative bias stresses regardless of the channel mode owing to the increase of interface traps caused by electrons in the inversion layers. After annealing at 300 ℃ for 10 mins, the devices were completely recovered to their original properties, and the characteristics did not change anymore when bias stresses were applied again for 1000 s.

  • In this paper, we manufactured silsesquiaznae (SSQZ)-coated carbon nanotube (CNT) surface heating elements, which allowed stable heating at high temperatures. The prepared composite sheet was confirmed by FE-SEM that the SSQZ fully coated the surface of CNT sheet. Furthermore, it was also confirmed that the silicon carbonitride (SiCN) ceramic formed by heat treatment of 800℃ have no defects found and maintain intact structure. The CNT/SiCN composite sheet was able to achieve higher thermal stability than raw CNT sheets in both nitrogen and air atmosphere. Finally, the CNT/SiCN composite sheet was possible to heat up at a temperature of over 700℃ in the atmosphere, and the re-heating was successfully operated after cooling.
