An Analysis of Methods for Teaching Bar and Line Graphs in Elementary Mathematics Textbooks (초등 수학 교과서의 막대그래프와 꺾은선그래프 지도에 대한 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify how didactic transposition (teaching and learning methods) has occurred and developed in the teaching of graphs in elementary school mathematics textbooks for third and fourth graders according to the previous and current curricula. In this study, we analyzed the lesson units on bar graphs and line graphs in mathematics textbooks for each curriculum, from the fifth curriculum to the 2015 revised curriculum. We also investigated the implication of statistics education deriving from didactic transposition (teaching and learning methods). We found that the timing of teaching bar and line graphs was rarely changed as the curriculum has changed. In addition, the use of technology was not actively implemented in school statistics, although the curriculum emphasized the use of technology in statistical education. Lastly, the textbooks did not address the variability and distribution of data and the sample or sampling process, which are significant statistical concepts. Based on the findings of this study, we suggest how to teach statistical graphs and what to consider for the next mathematics textbook.

  • It is very important to help students learn by examining how well students solve math problems. Therefore, in this study, four methods(error analysis by problem type, schematization analysis, area graph analysis, and broken line graph analysis) were constructed to analyze how the connectivity between concepts of middle school functions affects the problem solving results. The students' learning situation was visually expressed to enable intuitive understanding. This analysis method makes it easy to understand the evaluation results of students. It can help students learn by understanding their learning situation. It will be useful in mathematics teaching and learning as it can help students to monitor their own problems and make a self-directed learning plan.

Map Labeling for Collinear Sites (동일선상 위치들에 대한 지도 레이블링)

  • In a map, placing the labels, corresponding to names or explanations of specific features, is called map labeling. In this paper, n points on a line are given, and placing rectangular labels for the points is considered. Particularly, the labels have a same height and their lower sides lie on a straight line in the upper of the line on which the given points are. The points and the labels are connected by polygonal lines, which are called leader lines. The leader lines are classified into straight leader lines and bended leader lines, where the straight leader line consists of only the vertical line and the bended leader line consists of vertical, horizontal, vertical lines. The problem is placing the labels to minimize the number of bended leader lines, and we propose an O(nlogn)-time algorithm, which improves the O(n2)-time algorithm previously provided in [13].

  • 본 논문에서는 30게임에서 삼각형 내접원을 이용한 이동경로의 곡선화를 제안한다. 일반적으로 게임에서는 맵(map)을 형성하기 위해 그리드(grid) 방식을 채택한다. 그러나 그리드 방식은 지형을 형성할 때 격자를 이용하므로 자연스러운 맵을 형성하기 어려우며, 세밀한 묘사를 위해서는 많은 수의 격자를 이용하여야함으로 경로탐색 시 연산시간과 메모리에 부담을 준다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해서 웨이포인트(waypoint)를 이용하여 이동경로를 설정하기도 하지만. 이러한 방법은 게임디자이너가 웨이포인트를 미리 설정하여야한다는 단점이 뒤따른다. 근래에는 이러한 문제점 해결을 위해 네비게이션 메쉬(navigation mesh)를 이용하기도 한다. 네비게이션 메쉬를 이용하면 맵을 간소화할 수 있고 빠른 자동 경로탐색을 이룰 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 네비게이션 메쉬에서 A* 알고리즘을 적용하여도 이동경로는 꺾은선으로 나타나게 되어 현실감을 떨어뜨리는 원인으로 작용된다. 이러한 이동경로의 곡선화 문제점을 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 삼각형 내접원을 이용하여 이동경로의 곡선화를 이루었다.

Design and Implementation of Virtual Network Search System for Segmentation of Unconstrained Handwritten Hangul (무제약 필기체 한글 분할을 위한 가상 네트워크 탐색 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • For segmentation of constrained and handwritten Hangul, a new method, which has been not introduced, was proposed and implemented to use virtual network search system in the space between characters. The proposed system was designed to be used in all cases in unconstrained handwritten Hangul by various writers and to make a number of curved segmentation path using a virtual network to the space between characters. The proposed system prevented Process from generating a path in a wrong position by changing search window upon target block within a search process. From the experimental results, the proposed virtual network search system showed segmentation accuracy of $91.4\%$ from 800 word set including touched and overlapped characters collected from various writers.

A Study on Application of STEAM education with Robot in Elementary School (초등학교에서 로봇을 활용한 STEAM 교육의 적용 연구)

  • According to the result of PISA and TIMSS, it was reported that interest for Math and Science was far lower compared to high achievement of Them. The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of robot based STEAM education on elementary school students' Math learning behavior and Science motivation. Robot based STEAM education integrated science, mathematics and art with a theme of 'Energy' was practiced for test group and For control group, those three subjects were taught separately in order to achieve this purpose. Curriculum of fourth grade second semester's science, mathematics and art was analysed to teach a robot based STEAM class and STEAM class Model with the theme 'Energy was designed and applied to elementary students. In science class, heat transfer experiment was conducted with robots and the result was related to drawing polygonal lines in mathematics. In art class, robot components were used to describe the heat energy in shapes and colors. The research shows that students' Math learning behavior and Science motivation were improved more with robot based STEAM education than with traditional lessons(p<.05). It proves that robot based STEAM class can be effective for improving interest in elementary Math and Science.

An Analysis on Statistical Graphs in Elementary Textbooks of Other Subjects to Improve Teaching Graphs in Mathematics Education (타 교과 통계 그래프 분석을 통한 초등학교 수학 수업에서의 그래프 지도 개선 방안 탐색)

  • This study was carried out in order to draw some implications for teaching statistical graph in mathematics education with respect to practical statistics education for promoting students' statistical literacy. We analyze 133 graphs appearing in 99 elementary textbooks of other subjects (subjects except from mathematics) by subjects and types, and identify some cases of graphs addressed by other subjects. As a results, statistical graph was most addressed in social studies, and bar graphs, line graphs, tables, and circle graphs are most used in other subjects. Moreover, there are some issues related to contents-(1) the problem of curricular sequencing between mathematics and other subjects, (2) the level of addressing ratio graph, and (3) the use of wavy lines. In terms of forms, (1) the visual variation of graphical representations, (2) representation combining multiple graphs, and (2) graphs specialized for particular subjects are drawn as other issues. We suggest some implications to be considered when teaching the statistical graph in elementary mathematics classes.

Grade 4, 5, and 6 Students' Making Sense of Graphs (초등학교 4·5·6학년 학생들의 그래프 이해 능력 조사)

  • This study investigates how well grade 4, 5, and 6 students understand graphs before formal education is done on graphs. For this, we analyzed students' understanding of graphs by classifying them into 'reading data', 'finding relationships between data', 'interpreting data', and 'understanding situations' based on previous studies. The results show that the students have good understanding of graphs that did not have formal education. This suggests that it is necessary to consider the timing of the introduction of the graph. In addition, when we look at the percentage of correctness of each graph, it is found that the understanding of the line graph is weaker than the other graphs. The common error in most graphs was that students relied on their own subjective thoughts and experiences rather than based on the data presented.

  • Information collected from temperature, humidity, inclination, and pressure sensors using Raspberry Pi or Arduino is used in automatic constant temperature and constant humidity systems. In addition, by using it in the agricultural and livestock industry to remotely control the system with only a smartphone, workers in the agricultural and livestock industry can use it conveniently. In general, temperature and humidity are expressed in a line graph, etc., and the change is monitored in real time. The technology to visually express the temperature has recently been used intuitively by using an infrared device to test the fever of Corona 19. In this paper, the information collected from the Raspberry Pi and the DHT11 sensor is used to predict the temperature change in space through intuitive visualization and to make a immediate response. To this end, an algorithm was created to effectively visualize temperature and humidity, and data representation is possible even if some sensors are defective.

  • This study aims to analyze the interest of modern people in non-face-to-face medical counseling in the medical industrys. Big data was collected on two social platforms, 지식인, a platform that allows experts to receive medical counseling, and YouTube. In addition to the top five keywords of telephone counseling, "internal medicine", "general medicine", "department of neurology", "department of mental health", and "pediatrics", a data set was built from each platform with a total of eight search terms: "specialist", "medical counseling", and "health information". Afterwards, pre-processing processes such as morpheme classification, disease extraction, and normalization were performed based on the crawled data. Data was visualized with word clouds, broken line graphs, quarterly graphs, and bar graphs by disease frequency based on word frequency. An emotional classification model was constructed only for YouTube data, and the performance of GRU and BERT-based models was compared.
