I/Q channel 12-Bit 120MHz CMOS D/A Converter for WLAN (무선랜용 I/Q 채널 12bit 120MHz CMOS D/A 변환기 설계)

  • This paper describes the design of I/Q channel 12bit Digital-to-Analog Converter(DAC) which shows the conversion rate of 120MHz and the power supply of 3.3V with 0.35um CMOS n-well 1-poly 4-metal process for advanced wireless transceiver. The proposed DAC utilizes 4-bit thermometer decoder with 3 stages for minimum glitch energy and linearity error. Also, using a optimized 4bit thermometer decoder for the decrement of the chip area. Integral nonlinearity(INL) of ${\pm}1.6LSB$ and differential nonlinearity(DNL) of ${\pm}1.3LSB$ have been measured. In single tone test, the ENOB of the proposed 12bit DAC is 10.5bit and SFDR of 73dB(@ Fs=120MHz, Fin=1MHz) is measured, respectively. Dual-tone test SFDR is 61 dB (@ Fs=100MHz, Fin=1.5MHz, 2MHz). Glitch energy of 31 pV.s is measured. The converter consumes a total of 105mW from 3.3-V power supply.

Implementation of Analog Signal Processing ASIC for Vibratory Angular Velocity Detection Sensor (진동형 각속도 검출 센서를 위한 애널로그 신호처리 ASIC의 구현)

  • This paper presents the implementation of an analog signal-processing ASIS to detect an angular velocity signal from a vibrator angular velocity detection sensor. The output of the sensor to be charge appeared as the variation of the capacitance value in the structure of the sensor was detected using charge amplifiers and a self oscillation circuit for driving the sensor was implemented with a sinusoidal self oscillation circuit using the resonance characteristics of the sensor. Specially an automatic gain control circuit was utilized to prevent the deterioration of self-oscillation characteristics due to the external elements such as the characteristic variation of the sensor process and the temperature variation. The angular velocity signal, amplitude-mod)Hated in the operation characteristics of the sensor, was demodulated using a synchronous detection circuit. A switching multiplication circuit was used in the synchronous detection circuit to prevent the magnitude variation of detected signal caused by the amplitude variation of the carrier signal. The ASIC was designed and implemented using 0.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS process. The chip size was 1.2mm x 1mm. In the experiment under the supply voltage of 3V, the ASIC consumed the supply current of 3.6mA and noise spectrum density from dc to 50Hz was in the range of -95 dBrms/√Hz and -100 dBrms/√Hz when the ASIC, coupled with the sensor, was in normal operation.

Design of 3-bit Arbitrary Logic Circuit based on Single Layer Magnetic-Tunnel-Junction Elements (단층 입력 구조의 Magnetic-Tunnel-Junction 소자를 이용한 임의의 3비트 논리회로 구현을 위한 자기논리 회로 설계)

  • Magnetic Tunneling Junction (MTJ) has been used as a nonvolatile universal storage element mainly in memory technology. However, according to several recent studies, magneto-logic using MTJ elements show much potential in substitution for the transistor-based logic device. Magneto-logic based on MTJ can maintain the data during the power-off mode, since an MTJ element can store the result data in itself. Moreover, just by changing input signals, the full logic functions can be realized. Because of its programmability, it can embody the reconfigurable magneto-logic circuit in the rigid physical architecture. In this paper, we propose a novel 3-bit arbitrary magneto-logic circuit beyond the simple combinational logic or the short sequential one. We design the 3-bit magneto-logic which has the most complexity using MTJ elements and verify its functionality. The simulation results are presented with the HSPICE macro-model of MTJ that we have developed in our previous work. This novel magneto-logic based on MTJ can realize the most complex logic function. What is more, 3-bit arbitrary logic operations can be implemented by changing gate signals of the current drivel circuit.

Solution processed doping to the polymer hole transporting layer for phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (고분자 정공수송층에 용액 공정 도핑법을 적용한 인광 유기전기발광소자)

  • In this study, a facial way to enhance the electrical properties of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) via the solution process doping method based on the poly[(9,9-dioctylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)-co-(4,4'-(N-(4-sec-butylphenyl) diphenylamine)] (TFB) as a hole transporting layer (HTL) is demonstrated. In the TFB solution of the hole transport material, 1,4,5,8,9,11-hexaazatriphenylene hexacarbonitrile (HAT-CN) was doped by 3 wt% to improve the electrical properties of the HTL. According, the OLED with HAT-CN doped TFB showed the increased current density and luminance at the same driving voltage on behalf of the improved conductivity of HTL, and the reduced turn-on voltage from 13 V to 9 V. Furthermore, the maximum external quantum efficiency was dramatically increased three times from 3.6 to 10.8 % compared to the reference device without appling doping methode.

A Study on the Development of Mobile Robot for Inspection of Hull Surface (선체 외부 검사용 모바일 로봇 개발에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, development of mobile robot for the inspection of hull surface was mentioned. In the sea, it is difficult to proceed with the visual inspection of hull side and thus mobile robot for checking the status could be run with strap-on its surface. To do this, permanent magnet module to generate magnetic force between hull surface and mobile robot, and structure to minimize variance of the force under curvature circumstance were considered on the design. Based on the design, mobile robot with four NdFeB, four driving wheels and image aquisition module was applied. Load experiment to check the adhesive force, slip test during stop state and driving test to measure driving speed were executed. From the experiments 13 Kgf adhesive force was obtained and slip was not happened until 8 Kgf load on the inclined plate. Driving speed of mobile robot was measured at 0.82 m/s corresponding to 6.5 ampere. We confirmed the effectiveness of developed mobile robot by experiments to check its characteristics.

  • In this paper, we present the design of Schottky diodes and voltage multiplier for UHF-band passive RFID applications. The Schottky diodes were fabricated using Titanium (Ti/Al/Ta/Al)-Silicon (n-type) junction in $0.35\;{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The Schottky diode having $4{\times}10{\times}10\;{\mu}m^{2}$ contact area showed a turn-on voltage of about 150 mV for the forward diode current of $20\;{\mu}A$. The breakdown voltage is about -9 V, which provides sufficient peak inverse voltage necessary for the voltage multiplier in the RFID tag chip. The effect of the size of Schottky diode on the turn-on voltage and the input impedance at 900 MHz was investigated using small-signal equivalent model. Also, the effect or qualify factor of the diode on the input voltage to the tag chip is examined, which indicates that high qualify factor Schottky diode is desirable to minimize loss. The fabricated voltage multiplier resulted in a output voltage of more than 1.3 V for the input RF signal of 200mV, which is suitable for long-range RFID applications.

The Effect of Pd Coating on Electron Emission from Silicon Field Emitter Arrays (Pd 코팅이 실리콘 전계 방출 어레이의 전자 방출에 미치는 영향)

  • Uniform silicon tip arrays were fabricated using the reactive ion etching followed by the reoxidation sharpening, and the effect of Pd-coated layer on electron emission characteristics was studied. The electron emission from Si field emitter arrays(FEAs) was a little, but improved by removing surface oxide on the FEA, but pronounced drastically by coating a $100-{\AA}-thick$ Pd metal layer. The turn-on voltage in the Pd-coated Si FEAs was reduced by 30 V in comparison with that in uncoated ones. This results from the increase of surface roughness at the tip apex by the Pd coating on Si FEA, via the decrease of the apex radius at which electrons are emitting. The Pd-coated emitters showed superior operating stability over a wide current range to that of the uncoated ones. This suggests that Pd coating enhances the high temperature stability and the surface inertness Si FEA.

  • This paper presents speed control of an electric motorcycle using a fuzzy controller. The electric motorcycle required to meet not only fast throttle response but also stability, when it is on a cruise. However, a 1.5KW (50cc) electric motorcycles selling in the current market are difficult to cruise under the following conditions which are occupant's weight, load weight, wind resistance and road conditions (dirt roads, asphalt road). Because of these reasons, the rapid speed changing occurs in uphill and downhill road. To solve these problems, The input value for Improved fuzzy controller use the speed error and error variance. The output value for improved fuzzy controller uses Q-axis of the motor controlled variable. The D-axis of the motor output for improved fuzzy control uses D-axis controlled variable in proportional to Q-axis controlled variable. Improved fuzzy controller drives the electric motorcycle equipped with IPMSM. The control subject used in this paper is a 1.5KW electric motorcycle equipped with improved fuzzy controller that was used to control the motor speed. To control IPMSM Type of motor torque, D, Q-axis current controller was used. The Fuzzy controller using the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by experimental hardware simulator.

A study on digital locking device design using detection distance 13.4mm of human body sensing type magnetic field coil (인체 감지형 자기장 코일의 감지거리 13.4mm를 이용한 디지털 잠금장치 설계에 관한 연구)

  • This study evaluated a digital locking device design using detection distance of 13.4mm of a human body sensing type magnetic field coil. In contrast to digital locking devices that are used nowadays, the existing serial number entering buttons, lighting, number cover, corresponding pcb, exterior case, and data delivery cables have been deleted and are only composed of control ON/OFF power switches and emergency terminals. When the magnetic field coil substrates installed inside the inner case detects the electric resistance delivered from the opposite side of the 12mm interval exterior contacting the glass body part, the corresponding induced current flows. At this time, the magnetic field coil takes the role as a sensor when coil frequency of the circular coil is transformed. The magnetic coil as a sensor detects a change in the oscillation frequency output before and after the body is detected. This is then amplified to larger than 2,000%, transformed into digital signals, and delivered to exclusive software to compare and search for embedded data. The detection time followed by the touch area of the body standard to a $12.8{\emptyset}$ magnetic field coil was 30% contrast at 0.08sec and 80% contrast at 0.03sec, in which the detection distance was 13.4mm, showing the best level.

The Development of a beam profile monitoring system for improving the beam output characteristics (빔 출력 특성 개선을 위한 빔 프로파일 모니터링 시스템 개발)

  • Radioactive isotopes which are manufactured using a cyclotron in a radioisotope used for radiation diagnosis is affected by the production yield according to size and shape of the beam and beam uniform degree from irradiated location when the proton beam investigated the target by cyclotron. Therefore, in this paper developed the BPM(Beam Profile Monitor) device capable of measuring the beam cross-section at the cyclotron beam line. It was configured so as to be able to remote control the BPM device in LabView and used the BPM program it was to be able to easily monitor and display to analyze the graph of two-dimensional graph and a three-dimensional beam distribution numerical information of the beam obtained while scanning the tungsten wire to the X and Y axis. The time it takes to measure the beam can be confirmed 37seconds when step motor driving speed was 2000pps. Through a beam readjusted based on the measured beam distribution information by optimizing the beam distribution it can be made to maximize the RI production yield and contribute supply stabilization.
