  • The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of background variables, development stage, and perception of accountability on kindergarten teachers' adaptation to the teaching profession. The researchers surveyed 224 teachers in public and private kindergarten. The results of the study are as follows: First, in terms of age, the older they were, the better teachers adjusted to the teaching profession. As for their teaching career, the more teaching experience they had, the better teachers adapted to the teaching profession, but there were no significant differences between 6-10 years and more than 11 years. As to the level of education, four-year college graduates or graduate school graduates adjusted better than two-year college graduates. Second, teachers in the Capability Development Stage and Growth-Enthusiasm Stage showed a higher degree of adaptation than those in the Entrance-Acceptance Stage. Finally, the higher perception of accountability they have, the better teachers could adapt to the teaching profession. Among the categories of accountability, the professional accountability affected most highly the teachers' adaptation to the teaching profession.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide research results on how teacher background variables and teacher efficacy affect the teacher's instructional behavior of elementary school teachers in student participatory classes. A survey was conducted on 122 elementary school teachers in the G area and a regression analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship of influence between variables. As a result of the regression analysis, self-regulation efficiency and task difficulty preference had a significant impact on elementary teachers' instructional behavior. As for teaching knowledge, class motivation, which are sub-variable factors in class behavior, self-regulating efficacy had a higher influence than task difficulty preference and for class communication, task difficulty preference had a higher influence than self-regulating efficacy. Based on the results of the study, we considered ways to show desirable teaching behavior of elementary school teachers in student participatory classes.

  • This study examined the effect of infant teacher's sensitivity, efficacy and interaction on the social and emotional development of infants. The participants of this study were 169 infants and their teachers in daycare centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The instruments were collected through teachers' responses. Data were analyzed through the variance analysis using PASW 18.0 to verify the infant teachers' susceptibility, efficacy, and infant-teacher interaction based on infant teachers' background variables; to find out the relationship between the variables, Pearson correlation analysis was performed, and to find out the relative influence of variables on the infants' social and emotional development, stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed. Results were as follows. Firstly, Among the background variables of the teachers, their career as infant teachers displayed differences in the infants' social and emotional development, and the susceptibility, efficacy, and infant-teacher interactions displayed partial differences based on the teaching career, career as infant teachers, age, daycare center type, and the academic background of the teachers. Secondly, there were positive relationships between infant teacher's sensitivity, efficacy and interaction and infants' social and emotional development. Thirdly, infant teachers' sensitivity, efficacy and infant-teacher interaction had an influence on infants' social and emotional development at the same time. Especially, sensitivity and interaction were powerful and influential variables and their explained variance was 53%. These results suggested that teachers' efforts must be made to interact positively with infants and to increase their sensitivity level to respond to infants in order to increase infants' social and emotional development.

  • We investigated the differences between the teachers' perception and practice on portfolio assessments in kindergartens and daycare centers, and analyzed their dependence on various underlying factors. The participants of this study include 304 teachers in the kindergartens and daycare centers in J I G cities in Jeollabuk-do. The answers on the questionnaires were analysed by evaluating frequencies, percentage, averages, and standard deviations, and by carrying out paired t-test, ANOVA, and Scheff$\acute{e}$ verification using SPSS 18.0 program. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, teachers' practice fell meaningfully short of their perception in every sub-categories of the method and the effect of the portfolio assessment. Among the various underlying factors, only teachers' educational level played significant role. The difference between the perception and practice was relatively large among the teachers with regular 4-year college diploma as compared to junior-college graduates. Second, as we examine the difficulties in the portfolio assessment, teachers in general found difficulties on the questionnaires in all sub-categories, although the dependence on the underlying factors varies across the sub-categories. For example, teachers with higher level of education or who work at public kindergartens felt relatively more difficulties in the portfolio assessment.

This will be provided as basic resources for pre-service teacher training program to improve the understanding of key competencies and teaching efficacy of pre-service industrial teachers. The results of this study are as follows. First, the teacher efficacy of pre-service industrial teachers was found to be above average (M=3.0), and teaching efficacy (M=3.41) was found to be a bit higher than personal teacher efficacy (M=3.28). Upon analyzing the significant differences of teacher efficacy resulting from background variables, it was found that gender and major had no difference while the effect of school year on teaching efficacy of teacher efficacy showed statistically significant differences. Second, the lower regions of key competencies of pre-service industrial teachers all were above the average 3.0. Gender and school year were exhibited no significant difference, and only the global competence of key competencies showed significant difference. Third, it was found that the gender and major of pre-service industrial teachers had no correlation with teacher efficacy and key competencies. On the other hand, school year variable showed significant positive correlation with teacher efficacy (r=.274) and key competencies (r=.168). Lastly, it was found that key competencies and teacher efficacy had positive correlation of r=.475.

The subjects of the study were 280 teachers of early childhood education institutions in Y city. The research method was a questionnaire survey on the perception and actual condition of the cooperative art activities. For the research problems, frequency, percentage, and average were calculated by using descriptive statistics, and t - test, F - test, and ${\chi}^2$ - test were conducted to examine the differences according to background variables of early childhood teachers. In conclusion, this study showed that the need for cooperative art activities of early childhood education institutions was highly perceived, and there were significant differences according to the background variables of teachers in educational goals, contents and method. There were significant differences according to the teachers' background variables in the actual cooperative art activities in terms of frequency, method, time, evaluation method, teacher training and support. Based on the results of this study, various supporting methods such as activities plan and method, teacher education and training appropriate for the cooperative art activity program and the presentation of young children are sought so that more desirable and efficient cooperative art activities can be operated in the field of early childhood education suggesting that it should be done.

The questions cover 3 areas: the recognition, necessity and contents of the training program for kindergarten teachers. The data from the collected questioners were processed to bring in frequency and percentage by question and an X2 test was employed to see whether there was a difference among background variables. In addition, mean and standard deviation were used for the questions regarding the program contents. The results showed that the teachers had a deep interest in and awareness of the necessity of the program. Among the demographic variables, they turned out statistically different by academic career, education-related career and major. Second, the list of the demands they made for the training contents for kindergarten teachers showed that they wanted, in the order of importance; educating parents, understanding young children, handling techniques of troubled children, effective communication skills with young children, and understanding their traits and teaching methods by trait and spiritual training of teachers.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship pattern among the children's negative and aimless behaviors, and the variables related to teachers (characteristics, stress, efficacy, and quality of teachers' behaviors). Subjects were 190, 5 year-old children and 48 teachers at 45 child care centers. The children's negative and aimless behaviors were observed with time sampling method. The quality of teachers' interaction behaviors was rated by the Assessment Scales for Day Care Programs during the free play activities. Teachers responded to the Scale for the Teachers' Job Stress and Teachers' Efficacy. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlations, multiple regressions, and partial correlations. The results were as follows. The teachers' experience and the quality of teachers' behaviors significantly explained the children's negative behaviors. The quality of teachers' behaviors significantly explained the children's aimless behaviors. Lastly, the quality of teachers' behaviors mediated the relationship between the teachers' job stress and the children's aimless behaviors.
