  • This study aims to look into the characteristics of argumentation in the task context of 'Monty Hall problem' at a high school probability class. As a result of an analysis of classroom discourses on the argumentation between teachers and second-year students in one upper level class in high school using Toulmin's argument pattern, it was found that it would be important to create a task context and a safe classroom culture in which the students could ask questions and refute them in order to make it an argument-centered discourse community. In addition, through the argumentation of solving complex problems together, the students could be further engaged in the class, and the actual empirical context enriched the understanding of concepts. However, reasoning in argumentation was mostly not a statistical one, but a mathematical one centered around probability problem-solving. Through these results of the study, it was noted that the teachers should help the students actively participate in argumentation through the task context and question, and an understanding of a statistical reasoning of interpreting the context would be necessary in order to induce their thinking and reasoning about probability and statistics.

  • In blended learning, which combines school and online learning, unidirectionalness and disconnection of interaction are pointed out as the reason for widening the educational gap. This study conducted focus group interviews with teachers, students, and parents to develop a blended learning model to enhance the effectiveness of online learning. In order to increase the interaction between teachers and students online, the EduCare model considering care factors was proposed. Six practical models were proposed for the blended EduCare model. Not only interaction can be maximized, but learning reality and psychological well-being, social presence can be improved, and the effectiveness of online learning can be cultivated positively.

  • This research is a case study in which teachers tried to improve classes through online class analysis and self-evaluation in elementary school mathematics classes using a checklist of class reflection based on fair access, autonomy, initiative, and evaluation areas in the TRU analysis framework of Schoenfeld (2016). As a result, it was confirmed that the teacher's fair participation, student autonomy, initiative, feedback, and evaluation areas improved teaching methods during the short time. Therefore, if you want to improve classes in relatively short period of time, you can see the effect of some improvement only by self-evaluation. However, continuous improvement of teaching methods require the help of a teacher communities including experts or critical colleagues, and a longer-term case study.

  • Identity is the concept which approaches individuals' affective problems with the social and cultural view. The previous studies on the problems, studied the attitudes, beliefs, or emotions while they restricted the problems to teachers or students' private problems. Otherwise, identities focus on individuals which participate to any community and share its social practices(Mclead, 1994). This study purposed to get an understanding on the teaching and learning mathematics in elementary mathematics classroom with an ethnographic view, while we consider mathematics as a kind of social practices, and mathematics classrooms as communities of practice. We analysed teacher's identities on mathematics and teaching mathematics depending on her responses of the questions as following: How does she think about mathematics, what are the instructional goals in her mathematics classroom, how do students learn mathematics in her mathematics classroom. In addition, we analysed students' identities on mathematics and learning mathematics depending on their responses of the questions as following: What do students think of mathematics, do they like mathematics, why do they study mathematics, how do they feel their mathematics classroom(describe your classroom) and themselves in it(describe yourselves in your classroom), what are their duties and what do they do actually in their mathematics classroom.
