As departmentalized class system is increasingly introduced, student & learning support space should be understood newly as spaces indispensable for students.

  • Departmentalized Classroom System is new school operating system to apply social needs. Recent social needs are characterized as learning environment and self-learning system. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for equal learning environment condition in middle school applying departmentalized classroom system. This study has progressed through analyzing on 11 remodelling case of middle school in Gangwon-Do. The method of this study is visiting middle schools that operate the system, grasping the condition for environment composition, and investigating and analyzing practical use of the environment. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1) The space compositions for departmentalized classroom system are generally desirable, but some schools take irrational space composition, especially on home base-teacher laboratory, classroom-teacher laboratory. 2) The space area distributions are different in every school. This result is based on not taking standard criterion on space area distribution.

  • Because it is now the fourth year since the first operation of the departmentalized classroom system in March 2010, a clear analysis of the conditions for the system from the investigation of the schools' operating the system is necessary. In particular, in-depth investigation and analysis are pressing, because investigation and observation of the conditions and situations for the departmentalized classroom system are not conducted continuously after creating an environment for the management of the system through a large investment. Therefore, the purpose of this study lies in building clear data on the conditions for the operation of the departmentalized classroom system in schools by visiting schools that operate the system, grasping the conditions for environmental composition, and investigating and analyzing practical use of the environment.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive a curriculum environment for operating various student-centered teaching and learning methods, and the following results were derived: First, most of the lectures, discussions and consultations, data search, report preparation, presentation, work exhibition, and others were commonly derived, regardless of the types of long-term and short-term project classes for each subject. In particular, the necessity of operating various classes at the same time was suggested, indicating the need for an integrated teaching and learning operation environment in the unit subject class. Second, considering that practical classes are linked concurrently to lectures and discussion classes to conduct one subject class, it is necessary to switch to a specialized curriculum system that allows various classes such as lectures to be carried out at the same time. Third, as a result of grasping the appropriateness of the space size of the subject class for realizing different class types in the future, it can be seen that the space size of the practice room, including the space for practice and the area for exhibition, should be expanded. Based on the research results, the spatial environment for the operation of future teaching and learning classes is based on the public curriculum classroom system, and whether professional curriculum classes, such as lecture rooms and discussion and presentation rooms, are secured according to the number of students.

In this regard, floor plans of 8 middle schools proposed in LH design competition is compared and analyzed in this study. To sum up this analysis, the guide lines suggested from Korean educational development institute(KEDI) has not been followed in many building planning. For subject classrooms, guide lines from KEDI were ignored and support facilities did not planned as necessary space calculated through scale estimation program. To select a planned proposal in the future, demand of scale estimation, various studies, real educational spot and etc. should be reflected.
