  • Most students have difficulties and negative perceptions about physics learning. Especially, it is difficult to understand the whole context by learning based on logical-scientific thinking which excludes narrative thinking. This study aims to develop a storytelling teaching-learning method using the narrative thinking in physics lessons for improving the difficulty of students of physics learning, For this purpose, a storytelling teaching-learning method that can improve scientific attitude and understand and change the concepts was developed through literature research. The following results were confirmed its effects to apply high school students and middle school students. First, the teaching-learning method using the storytelling for high school students with low interest in learning had a significant effect in science-related occupation, interest in science and science-related activities, criticism, openness, cooperation, and spontaneity. Second, the middle school students who are active in learning recognized that teaching and learning methods using storytelling helped to understand physics concepts. The storytelling teaching-learning method developed through this study is expected to stimulate students' interest and motivation in physics and to be useful for learning concepts by improving their scientific thinking skills.

  • Curriculum content interest has been studied in terms of teachers rather than students in ways that help revise curriculum and develop textbooks. In this study, 227 first-year high school students were interested in what they learned in middle school and what they learned in high school, focusing on meaningful assumptions and contents for middle school and high school students. We analyze this difference in interest by gender and achievement level. According to the research results, first-year high school students, who are in the middle and high school transition period, have relatively high interest in themselves, such as youth development, compared to family needs or interest in family life. There were no gender differences, but there were differences in content interest depending on the level of achievement. This means that the content interest should be interpreted by considering various variables such as the development of learners, the situation of learners in the school-level transition period, and the entrance examination of universities. The results of this study will provide implications for future curriculum revisions, textbook development, and curriculum considerations, and will need to be carefully analyzed and utilized based on a learner-centered perspective.

  • This study is an action research aimed at improving the instruction of a teacher educator who teaches science teaching methods to elementary preservice teachers. After identifying the cause of their low levels of curiosity and interest in physics, teaching plans addressing this problem were explored, applied to classes, and reflected upon. Through this process, ways to improve teaching practice in science classes for elementary preservice teachers and pique their scientific curiosity and interest were proposed. A spiral implementation structure that repeats implementation and reflection a total of three times was designed for the prospective preservice teachers who participated in elementary science textbook research physics classes. Self-reports, student participation data, and results from both peer and self-evaluations were collected and analyzed. The reasons for the preservice teachers' low levels of curiosity and interest in science were identified as their inability to recognize and express information gaps and their low levels of willingness to resolve this. Practice expressing information gaps, raising the level of knowledge to be able to recognize information gaps, and a strategy to have the will to resolve information gaps were introduced into the class. To the extent that changes can be made by improving unit classes, elementary preservice teachers can express their curiosity and interest in science through this process.

  • This study aims to explore the differences between Korean and United States college students regarding their degree of religiosity, interest in, understanding and acceptance of evolution, and the effects of their interaction on these variables. A total of one thousand and fifteen Korean and US biology majors and non-majors college students participated in this study and a sub sample of 516 students were randomly selected for statistical tests. The results illustrated that Korean college students harbored significantly lower degrees of religiosity and interest in evolution but significantly higher degrees of knowledge and acceptance of evolution than US college students. The path analysis uncovered that the knowledge of and interest in evolution played a mediating role between religiosity and acceptance of evolution. Korean college students' interest in evolution was less correlated to other variables than US college students' interest. The acceptance of evolution was less predicted by knowledge of evolution in the Korean biology major sample than in the US biology major sample. The acceptance of evolution was predicted more by religiosity in the Korean non-major sample than in US non-major sample. This study suggests that future Korean science curriculum for evolution needs to enhance the degree of students' interest in evolution. In addition, future Korean science curriculum needs an instructional strategy in developing students' ability to make scientific decisions, such as the acceptance of evolution, without interference from their personal religious belief.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare junior high school students' conceptual changes about force and motion and their interest in science between a group with the instruction including sports experiential learning activities and a group with traditional instruction. In addition, for a group with sports experiential learning activities, students' conceptual changes and interest were examined according to the degree of their sports-experience before the instruction. The subject was 7th-grade students(N=82), and they were divided into two groups: experimental group and control group. The conceptual changes were positive in both groups. In the multiple choice questions the experimental group students(20.0%) were more positively changed than the control group students(17.2%). The number of students who responded with the right explanation increased 26.7% in the experimental group and 10.4% in the control group. The interest of the control group was significantly increased in the topic dimension(p<0.05). The interest of the experimental group was significantly increased in the experiential activity and the communicative activity(p<0.05). Students who had much sports-experience showed the most positive changes. Moreover the interest of these students was especially increased in internal motive, receptive activity, experiential activity, and communicative activity.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate students' views on the value of school science lessons and the aspects of science lessons that appeal to students. For the investigation, semi-structured in-depth interviews with 16 secondary school students were conducted. The results showed that about half of the participants thought that science lessons are important, but not all students have to learn science. And they considered only intrinsic interest and career hopes as critical elements in judging the necessity of science education for all. To appeal to students: first, science lessons should have relevance to students' career hopes, interest, curiosity, abilities, real life, experiences, and test scores. Second, they should acquire students' understanding. Third, they should include more experiments. Finally, they should be related to real life, reflect students' interest and concerns, and link new things with what students already know in terms of contexts and contents. Students thought that science lessons are not suitable for students who don't desire to pursue a science-related career. This suggests that present science curriculum perceived by students doesn't match well with the idea of science education for all. To overcome this problem, students need to be included in the debate about the relevance of science curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of English integrated instruction on the 6th grade Korean elementary students' English ability using science animation. Twenty-seven students took English integrated instruction before their regular class for 10 minutes while the other students took review activity instead of it. At first, the students were asked to take the sixth grade diagnostic evaluation sponsored by C office of education in 2018 as the pre-test and ten months later, they were asked to take the first grade diagnostic evaluation of middle school sponsored by C office of education in 2017 as the post-test. Results of the study showed that the English ability and the affective attitude of the students taking English integrated instruction were improved. These results suggest that English integrated instruction can contribute to the improvement of Korean elementary students' English ability.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze a developing process of 3D STEAM based G learning contents. STEAM means Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics. It is focused on to raise students interest on science and technology through integrating the subjects together. Also it's purpose is to raise students understanding capabilities on technology convergence and problem solving. Therefore, this paper focused on the analysis of the development of 3D STEAM based G learning contents. Science topic, 'solar system and stars' was decided as a G learning based contents. Students showed higher immersion and motivation on the contents.
