  • The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction and nursing organizational culture on burnout in integrated nursing care units nurses. The participants were 170 nurses working in integrated nursing care units of three general hospitals located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé, Pearson's correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Burnout was significantly different according to turnover intention, job satisfaction, health status. Burnout showed a positive correlation with compassion fatigue and a negative correlation with compassion satisfaction and relation oriented culture. Regression analysis revealed that compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, relation oriented culture and age were significant variables affecting the burnout, and the lower the age, the higher the burnout. Therefore, strategies to decrease compassion fatigue and to enhance compassion satisfaction and positive aspects of relation oriented culture for lower age nurses group are needed.

There was no significant difference in job satisfaction between INCSW and GW for 6 months, while there was a difference in quality of life: overall quality of life (1st p=.033, 2nd p=.030), and overall general health (1st p=.049). Comparison of two groups by period in job satisfaction, there were statistically significant differences of the item 'recognition from the organization and professional achievement' (2nd versus 3rd, p=.037) and 'interpersonal interaction with respect and recognition' (1st versus 3rd, p=.005; 2nd versus 3rd, p=.006) in the INCSW. Comparison of two groups by period in quality of life, there was a statistically significant difference of the item 'overall quality of life' (1st versus 3rd, p=.025; 2nd versus 3rd, p=.010) in the INCSW. Development of various nursing strategies (such as manpower arrangement that reflects the nursing skill levels, patient needs, job training and organizational culture before placement) can be helpful for improving nurses job satisfaction and quality of life in INCSW and GW.

  • This study examined the relationship between delegation preparedness and job satisfaction in comprehensive nursing care service wards. Data were collected from 126 nurses who had been working in the comprehensive nursing care wards of five general hospitals located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, from May 26 to June 7, 2017. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. The delegation education showed a significant difference in delegation preparedness (t=-2.77, p=.006). A statistically significant positive correlation was observed between delegation preparedness and job satisfaction (r=.43, p<.001). Job satisfaction was significantly correlated with understanding the task (r=.26, p=.003), delegation of the task classification (r=.45, p<.001), understanding the delegation (r=.35, p<.001), and delegation skill (r=.34, p<.001), which are the sub-domains of delegation preparedness. Delegation preparedness was correlated significantly with interactions (r=.46, p<.001), task requirement (r=.36, p<.001), professional status (r=.33, p<.001), administration (r=.31, p<.001), and pay (r=.20, p=.026), which are sub-domains of job satisfaction. These results highlight the need for schools and clinical settings to provide continuous education to improve the delegation preparedness for nurses in comprehensive nursing care wards.

  • Purpose: The research looks at differences between the 'General ward' and the 'Comprehensive nursing ward' in Seoul Medical Center, regarding the facility improvements and changes in nursing services. It investigates and analyzes spatial problems and improvement needs through a survey and conduct investigation of staffs. It is to propose the primary data for the architectural planning of the future ward with the comprehensive nursing service. Methods: Targeting the comprehensive nursing ward, changes of the physical environment and spatial problems are analyzed through a field survey, behavior investigation, present-condition investigation, and floor plan analysis. Results: The workforce is increased by approximately twice the amount of the nursing staffs in the comprehensive nursing ward, compared to the pre-general ward. When utilizing the general ward, various spatial problems arise due to the restrictions of the facility condition. Because Sub N.S is an important facility as a part of the nursing work function in the ward of the comprehensive nursing service, the opinions of staffs must be considered when selecting a location and composing a space. Implications: It can be used as a primary data for the comprehensive nursing ward when architectural planning of a new hospital.

  • The purpose of this descriptive research study was to identify the effects on job satisfaction of nurses working at comprehensive nursing care service units. The study was conducted in five hospitals, two of 250 beds or more in three cities and three of 800 beds. The study subjects were nurses working at comprehensive nursing care service units. A structured questionnaire of 150 questions was distributed to them and 146 were collected. The data collection period was from August 1, 2019 to November 15, 2019. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 program, using x2-test, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. Emotional labor and toughness were negatively correlated (r=-.20, p=.018), and emotional labor and job satisfaction were positively correlated (r=.25, p=.004). The predictive variables affecting the job satisfaction of the subjects were the aptitude of the ward service (β=-.35, p=<.001) and hardness(β=.21, p=.009). The explanation of job satisfaction in the variables was 18.2% (F=3.54, p=.009). The study results revealed that the predictive variables affecting job satisfaction were the hardiness and aptitude of the ward service. Therefore, in order to increase the job satisfaction of ward nurses, it is necessary to provide administrative support to control the hardiness of the nurse and to allocate manpower in consideration of the aptitude in the hospital personnel system.
