  • The purpose of this study is to derive implications for the development of the next home economics curriculum by comparing the 'function' and 'achievement standard' presented in the 14 subjects of the 2015 revised middle school common curriculum with the home economics curriculum. For this, keyword network analysis was conducted, and the results are as follows. First, in the 'function' of the 2015 revised middle school common curriculum, 'analysis, use, and expression' were found to be core function keywords with high Degree Centrality and the Eigenvector Centrality. Second, the functional keywords 'understanding, explanation, expression, analysis, and use' in the 'achievement standard' of the 2015 revised middle school common curriculum appeared with high frequency, and 'practice, problem-solving, search and reasoning' which are related to practical problem-solving ability appeared. It was confirmed that 'appreciation, solution and realization', which have relatively high Eigenvector Centrality, were core functional keywords used in the 'achievement standard'. Third, when the 'function' and 'achievement standard' of the 2015 revised middle school home economics curriculum were matched and compared, 7 out of 15 functions were not used in the statement of 'achievement standard', so the connection between 'function' and 'achievement standard' appeared to be insufficient. In addition, the diversity of functional keyword used in the 'achievement standard' was also found insufficient when compared to the middle school common curriculum. Therefore, this study propose strengthening the connectivity of 'function' and 'achievement standard' in the next home economics curriculum, using keywords such as 'analyze', 'express', 'compare', 'understand', 'interpret', 'explore', 'appreciate', and 'solve'.

  • In this study, we identified the theoretical basis of management and planning of life-cycle, the core concept of resource "Administration and Independence," of Home Economics curriculum according to "Notification of Education Ministry #2015-74." First in relation to "management", we identified the systematic theory, the theoretical basis of traditional home management, and diagnosed how this systematic theory is reflected on 2015' curriculum. As a result, the contents of actual curriculum's middle school contents does not include integrally the life related problems that middle students are facing in real life, and it is hard to be convinced what priority the element of selected contents have of several problems. Next, in case of planning of life-cycle that accentuates the importance of life plan corresponding to career orientation it mentions the contents including very comprehensive area such as value, profession, health as well as developmental task, but the fact leaves to be desired that 2015 curriculum is overlooking the importance of financial planning, the international trend.

  • This study is designed to support the development and the teaching of revised curriculum of 2007 "Technology & Home Economics" by investigating the actual condition and the necessity of education for elderly housing education. Questionnaire survey was conducted with 488 high school students in Gyeongnam in 2008. The data analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test by using SPSS 14 program. The results showed that most of the students were dissatisfied with their middle school education of elderly housing due to the lack of interesting and practical contents. Thus, various teaching-learning methods where student can experience and experiment is needed. Also, the students demanded more of factors of elderly housing, spacing plan, elderly welfare service and less of three-generation housing and senior housing in their elderly housing education. The needs of education contents differed among students depending on variables such as sex, graduated middle school, household income, dwelling space and length of residential years. Therefore, revised 2007 curriculum of "Technology & Home Economics" should include required contents in related chapters. Because there are significant differences among textbooks about elderly housing, further attention needs to be paid to the new textbooks in order to include education contents evenly. At the same time, teachers should organize their teaching contents considering the divergence of variables. The effect of elderly housing education will be maximized if the revised curriculum consists of more experimental activities such as elderly simulation in the local community.

First, based on the results of a 2015-Revised Curriculum analysis, a school space design program evaluation plan was established, and two evaluation tasks were developed. Accordingly, scoring criteria were prepared and 8 evaluation materials for students and 2 evaluation materials for teachers were developed. A total of 9 sessions were developed for teaching and learning activities and evaluation-linked operation procedures to perform evaluation tasks. As a result of an expert validity test for the program, all items were verified to be appropriate in content validity and content composition with an average of 3.6 to 4 points (4 points). Second, after conducting the school space design program, a survey on students were conducted, and as a result, all three areas of school space design class, process-based evaluation, interest scored high in average scores of 4.12 to 4.27 out of 5. According to the survey and interview results, the program provided new learning opportunities for school space design, the students were able to reach the suggested achievement goals, and the self-assessment, peer evaluation and teacher feedback positively affected the students during the learning process so that they could reflect on their learning and actively participate in the subsequent learning activity. This study has a limitation in generalizability in that the program was conducted on a limited number of students, and future studies are expected to expand the scope in terms of research participants, evaluation criteria, and school space design classes. This study laid the foundation for theory and practice by developing and implementing a process-based evaluation program for home economics education, and it has contribution in that it suggested the possibility that teachers and students can take the initiatives in school space design, focusing on the housing content elements of home economics.
