Layered $LiCo_{x}Mn_{1-x}O_2$ as Cathode Materials for Li-Ion Batteries

  • Orthorhombic type LiCo$_{x}$Mn$_{1-x}$ O$_2$(0$\leq$x$\leq$0.14) oxides have been synthesized by hydrothermal treatment of (Co$_{x}$Mn$_{1-x}$ )$_3$O$_4$precursors and LiOH aqueous solution at 17$0^{\circ}C$. As-synthesized powders showed well-ordered $\beta$-MaMnO$_2$structures, and the products were single crystalline particle oxides from TEM observations. The particle size decreased with increasing the amount of Co substituent. Much more improved capacity upon 100 cyclings was clearly seen in orthorhombic LiCo$_{0.1}$Mn$_{0.9}$O$_2$, comparing to orthorhombic LiMnO$_2$./TEX>.EX>.

  • NiSi is currently being employed in 45 nm CMOS devices as a contact material. We employed a first principles calculation to understand the movements of atoms when Co, Pd, and Pt were added to tetragonal-NiSi on Si (001). The Ni atoms in the tetragonal-NiSi/Si (001) favored away from the original positions along positive c-direction in a systematic way during the energy minimization. Two different Ni sites were identified at the interface and the bulk, respectively. The Ni site at the interface farther away from the interface was more favorable for Pd and Pt substitution. Co, however, prafered the bulk site to the interface site, unlike Pd and Pt.

An Investigation of the Catalytic Effect with $Nd_{1-x}Sr_{x}CoO_{3}$ Perovskite in a Sealed-off $CO_2$ Laser

  • To improve the lifetime and output power in a sealed-off $CO_2$ laser, a series of Nd$_{1-x}$Sr$_x$CoO$_3$(x = 0.0, 0.25, 0.40, 0.50, 0.60, 0.75) perovskite-type compounds has been synthesized and used for a cathode material. Using a typical method samples were sintered at 1150$^{\circ}$C and their structures were determined as a cubic form by means of XRD analysis. The degrees of $CO_2$ dissociation were measured by PAS (photoacoustic spectroscopy) with the lapse of time. In the case of $Nd_{0.4}$Sr$_{0.6}$$CoO_3$, which showed the highest catalytic cathode effect, only 7% of the initial $CO_2$ concentration were dissociated at 30 torr of gas mixture and 5 mA of discharge current. The more the gas pressure decreased and the discharge current increased, the more the degree of dissociation occurred. The ability of catalytic cathode to regenerate CO$_2$ in the laser cavity lies in order for x, 0.60 > 0.50 > 0.40 > 0.75 > 0.25 ${\gg}$ 0.0. Except for the case of x = 0.0 the amounts of $CO_2$ dissociation were found to be within 7-15% of the initial $CO_2$ concentration.

  • RF스퍼터링법으로 제작한 비정질(Fe$_{1-x}$ Co$_{x}$)$_{89}$Zr$_{11}$자성박막의 자기특성을 Co농도 X에 따라 조사하였다. 130 Oe의 인가자기중 1$50^{\circ}C$에서 90분간 열처리하였을 때 X=0.4, 0.5부근의 박막은 높은 자왜를 나타냄에도 불구하고 양호한 연자기 특성을나타내었다. 특히 X=0.4의 박막에서는 0.25 Oe의 낮은 보자력이 나타났으며, 1MHz, 50mOe의 여기자기장에서 측정된 교류투자율은 900정도였다. 본 연구의 박막에서 얻어진 우수한 자기특성은 외부자기장의 인가에 의해 특성의 변화가 가능한 표면탄성파(surface acoustic wave)소자에 응용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.된다..된다.

FIB를 이용한 니켈코발트 복합실리사이드 미세 배선의 밀링 가공 (Milling of NiCo Composite Silicide Interconnects using a FIB)

  • 저저항 배선층으로 쓰일 수 있는 선폭 $0.5{\mu}m$, 70nm 높이의 폴리실리콘 패턴에 $10nm-Ni_{1-x}Co_x$(x=0.2, 0.6, and 0.7)의 금속 박막을 열증착법으로 성막하고 쾌속 열처리 (RTA) 온도를 $700^{\circ}C$$1000^{\circ}C$로 달리하여 실리사이드화 공정을 실시하여 상부에 니켈코발트 실리사이드를 형성시켰다 이때의 미세구조를 확인하고 FIB (focused ion beam)를 활용하여 저에너지 조건 (30kV-10 pA-2 sec)에서 배선층을 국부적으로 조사하여 실리사이드 층의 선택적 제거 가능성을 확인하였다. 실험 범위내의 실리사이드화 온도 범위와 NiCo 상대 조성 범위에서 주어진 FIB 조건으로 선택적으로 저저항 실리사이드 층의 제거가 가능하였으나, 상대적으로 Co 함유량이 많은 실리사이드는 배선층 내부에서 기포가 발생하였으며, 이러한 기포로 인해 실리사이드 층만의 국부적 제거는 불가능하였다.

  • SAW 소자에 응용 가능한 자성박막재의 개발을 목적으로 RF 스퍼터링법으로 증착한 (Fe(sub)0.6Co(sub)0.4)(sub)89Zr(sub)11/Fe(sub)1-xCo(sub)x)Zr(sub)11(x=0, 0.6, 0.9)<원문잠조> 비정질 다층박막의 자기특성을 조사하였다. 수직자기장중열처리를 행하였을 때 상온에서 비자성 Fe(sub)89Zr(sub)11 층의 삽입에서만 다층박막화의 효과가 나타났다. 일 예로 (Fe(sub)0.6Co(sub)0.4)(sub)89Zr(sub)11(30${\AA}$)/Fe(sub)89-Zr(sub)11(40${\AA}$)<원문참조> 박막시편에 1kHz, 50 mOe의 여기자기장으로 평가된 최대 미분투자율${\mu}$(sub)d.max는 단층막의 750에서 1650으로 2배 이상 증가, 구동 바이어스자기장 Hw는 20 Oe에서 6Oe로 3배 이하로 감소하는 양호한 특성이 얻어졌다. 그러나 다른 중용 특성인 자왜는 34% 정도 감소하는 것으로 추정되었다.

(Mm)Ni5계 수소저장합금의 전극 특성 (Electrode Characteristics of the (Mm)Ni5-Based Hydrogen Storage Alloys)

  • The MmNi-based alloy electrode was studied for use as a negative electrode in Ni-MH battery. Alloys with $MmNi_5-_xM_x$(M=Co,Al,Mn) composition were synthesized, and their electrode charateristics of activation rate, temperature dependence, electrode capacity and cycle life were investigated. With increasing Al content and decreasing Mn content in the alloys, the discharge capacity increased while the cycle life decreased. As x in $MmNi_5-_xM_x$ increased from 1.5 to 2.0, decreasing the Ni content, the discharge capacity, the low temperature property and the rate capability decreased. However its cycle life was improved. Increasing Co content resulted in a prolonged cycle life and decrease of high rate discharge capacity. It can be concluded that the most promising alloy in view of discharge capacity and cycle life is $MmNi_{3.5}Co_{0.7}Al_{0.5}Mn_{0.3}$.

Crystallographic and Magnetic Properties of Nano-sized Nickel Substituted Cobalt Ferrites Synthesized by the Sol-gel Method

  • Nano-sized nickel substituted cobalt ferrite powders, $Ni_xCo_{1-x}Fe_2O_4$ ($0.0{\leq}x{\leq}1.0$), were fabricated by the sol-gel method, and their crystallographic and magnetic properties were studied. All the ferrite powders showed a single spinel structure, and behaved ferrimagnetically. When the nickel substitution was increased, the lattice constants and the sizes of particles of the ferrite powders decreased. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer absorption spectra of $Ni_xCo_{1-x}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite powders could be fitted with two six-line subspectra, which were assigned to a tetrahedral A-site and octahedral B-sites of a typical spinel crystal structure. The increase in values of the magnetic hyperfine fields indicated that the superexchange interaction was stronger, with the increased nickel concentration in $Ni_xCo_{1-x}Fe_2O_4$. This could be explained using the cation distribution, which can be written as, $(Co_{0.28-0.28x}Fe_{0.72+0.28x})[Ni_xCo_{0.72-0.72x}Fe_{1.28-0.28x}]O_4$. The two values of the saturation magnetization and the coercivity decreased, as the rate of nickel substitution was increased. These decreases could be explained using the cation distribution, the magnetic moment, and the magneto crystalline anisotropy constant of the substituted ions.

저온 작동형 SOFC Lanthanum Ferrite계 공기극 소재의 전기적 특성 (Electrical Properties of the Lanthanum Ferrite-Based Cathode Materials for Low-Temperature SOFCs)

  • The perovskites with nominal compositions $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Fe_{1-x}M_xO_3$ (M=Co, Mn, Ni, x=0.1-0.3) were fabricated by a solid-state reaction method as cathode materials of low-temperature operating Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs). X-ray diffraction analysis and microstructure observation for the sintered samples were performed. The ac complex impedance were measured in the temperature range $600-900^{\circ}C$ in air and fitted with a Solatron ZView program. The electrical conductivity and polarization resistance of $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Fe_{1-x}M_xO_3$ (M=Co, Mn, Ni, x=0.1-0.3) were characterized systematically. The porosities of the sintered samples were in the range of 25% to 38%. The polarization resistance of $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Fe_{0.7}M_{0.3}O_3$ was $0.291{\Omega}cm^2\;at\;700^{\circ}C$.

  • Nowadays Perovskite $La_{1-x}Sr_xCoO_3$ is a preferred cathode material in the construction Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC). The $La_{1-x}Sr_xCoO_3$ with Sr contents ranging from X=0.0 to X=1.0 were prepared by a citrate method. All samples were examined by X-ray powder diffraction. The samples used for measuring thermal expansion were prepared as pellets by cold pressing and subsequent sintering in air at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours. To measure the sub-product of $La_{1-x}Sr_xCoO_3$ with YSZ, where coating films were sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 5 hour.
