  • In order to evaluate the limit earthquake resistance of multi-story steel frames influenced by the strength and stiffness ratios of members a series inelastic response analysis were carried out. From the analysis results the damage distribution rules of multi-story steel frames were proposed. Conclusions are summarized as follows. 1)As the stiffness ratio of beam and column becomes small damage concentrate on the lower end of columns of the first story. 2) Considering the strength and stiffness ratios of beam and column with weak beam type mechanism the equations predicting the damage distribution of multi-story steel frames were proposed.

  • Extreme value theory concerns the distributional properties of the maximum of a random sample; subsequently, it has been significantly extended to stationary random sequences satisfying weak dependence restrictions. We focus on distributional mixing condition $D(u_n)$ and the Berman condition based on covariance among weak dependence restrictions. The former is assumed for general stationary sequences and the latter for stationary normal processes; however, both imply the same distributional limit of the maximum of the normal process. In this paper $D(u_n)$ condition is shown weaker than Berman's covariance condition. Examples are given where the Berman condition is satisfied but the distributional mixing is not.

  • We have observed ~60 Weak-line T Tauri stars (WTTSs) toward the Chamaeleon star forming region using the AKARI Far-Infrared Surveyor (FIS) All-Sky maps. We could not detect any significant emission from each source even at the most sensitive WIDE-S band. Then, we have performed stacking analysis of these WTTSs using the WIDE-S band images to improve the sensitivity. However, we could not detect any significant emission in the resultant image with a noise level of $0.05MJy\;sr^{-1}$, or 3 mJy for a point source. The three-sigma upper limit of 9 mJy leads to the disk dust mass of $0.01M_{\oplus}$. This result suggests that the disks around Chamaeleon WTTSs are already evolved to debris disks.

  • B.Djafari Rouhani and W.A.Kirk [3] proved the following theorem: Let Xbe a reflexive Banach space and $(x_n)_{n{\geq}0}$ be a nonexpansive (resp., firmly nonexpansive )sequence in X. Then the set of weak ${\omega}$-limit points of the sequence $(\frac{x_n}{n})_{n{\geq}1}$(resp., $(x_{n+1}-x_n)_{n{\geq}0$) always lies on a convex subset of a sphere centered at the origin of radius $d={\lim}_{n{\rightarrow}{\infty}}\frac{{\parallel}x_n{\parallel}}{n}$. In this paper we show that the above theorem for nonexpansive(resp., firmly nonexpansive) sequences holds in a general Banach space(resp., a strictly convex dual $X^*$).

  • Random variables $X_1$, $X_1$, ..., $X_m$ are said to be weakly associated if whenever $\pi$ is a permutation of {1, 2,..., m}, $1{\leq}k<m$, and f: $R^{k}{\rightarrow}R$, g: $R^{m-k}{\rightarrow}R$ are coordinatewise nondecreasing functions then Cov $[f(X_{x(1)},...,\;X_{\pi(k)},\;g(X_{x(k+1)},...,\;X_{x(m)})]{\geq}0$, whenever the covariance is defined. An infinite collection of random variables is weakly associated if every finite subcollection is weakly associated. The basic properties of weak association and central limit theorem for weakly associated random variables are derived. We also extend this idea to point random fields and prove that a Cox process with a stationary weakly associated intensity rardom measure is weakly associated. Another inequalities and the fact that positive correlated normal random variables are weakly associated are also proved.

  • The origin of magnetic fields in the intracluster medium (ICM) is uncertain: it can be either primordial or astrophysical. Turbulence plays important roles in the origin of magnetic fields in the ICM. This is because turbulence can amplify a weak seed magnetic field very efficiently. The efficiency of the turbulence dynamo critically depends on the magnitude of viscosity: the smaller the viscosity is, the more efficient the turbulence dynamo is. In this talk, I'll discuss turbulence dynamo in both very small viscosity limit and very large viscosity limit. I'll show that when the viscosity in the ICM is comparable to the Spitzer viscosity, the origin of magnetic field in the ICM is likely to be astrophysical. On the other hans, when the viscosity is much smaller than the Spitzer value, the origin of magnetic field can be either astrophysical or primordial.

  • This paper studies the problem of option hedging when the underlying asset price process is a compound Poisson process. By adopting an asymptotic approach to let the security price converge to a continuous process, we find a closed-form hedging strategy that improves the classical Black-Scholes hedging strategy in a quadratic sense. We first show that the scaled Black-scholes hedging error has a limit in law, and that limit is decomposed into a part that can be traded away and a part that is purely unreplicable. The Black-Scholes hedging strategy is then modified by adding the replicable part of its hedging error and by adding the mean-variance hedging strategy to the nonreplicable part. Some results of simulation experiment s are also provided.

  • Nonlinear dynamics of pulsating instability in radiating counterflow diffusion flames is numerically investigated by imposing Damk$\ddot{o}$hler number perturbation. Stable limit-cycle solutions occur in small ranges of Damk$\ddot{o}$hler numbers past bifurcation point of instability. Period doubling cascade and chaotic behaviors appear just before dynamic extinction occurs. Nonlinear dynamics is also studied when large disturbances are imposed to flames. For weak steady flames, the dynamic extinction range shrinks as the magnitudes of disturbances are increased. However, strong steady flames can overcome relatively large disturbances, thereby the dynamic extinction range extending. Stable limit-cycle behaviors reappears prior to dynamic extinction when the steady flames are strong enough.

  • For a k-connected inverse system $({\scr{X}},\;*)=((X_{\lambda},\;*),p_{{\lambda}{{\lambda}}^{\prime}},\;{\Lambda})$ of pointed topological spaces and pointed preserving weak fibrations, inducting epimorphic chain maps, over a directed set, we show that the homotopy group ${\pi}_k(lim{\scr{X}},\;*)$ of the inverse limit is isomorphic to the integral homology group $$H_k(lim{\scr{X}};\mathbb{Z})$. Using the result of S. $Marde{\check{s}}i{\acute{c}}$, we prove that the group of pure extension $Pext(colimH^n({\scr{X}},\;A)$ is isomorphic to the group of extension $Ext({\Delta}({\lambda}),\;Hom(H^n({\scr{X}}),\;A))$.

  • Resonance fluorescence is the manifestation of the interaction between the physical system under consideration and the vacuum-field fluctuation. The fluorescence spectrum provides such physical informations as the energy-level structure of the system, instabilities and relative populations of the energy levels, etc.. One of the typical fluorescence spectra is the Mollow triplet appearing when two-level atoms are driven by a strong coherent field in free space$^{(1)}$ . In the weak field limit, the singlet instead of the triplet is obtained with a reduced linewidth due to the squeezing of one quadrature phase of the induced atomic dipole$^{(2)}$ . On the other hand, when the atoms are put inside a cavity rather than in free space, a doublet spectrum due to the vacuum Rabi-splitting is achieved, showing clearly the coupling of atoms and the cavity in the single-quantum limit$^{(3)}$ .
