  • An experimental study has been performed on the heat transfer by the natural convection from a conducting tube with two axial fins to a surrounding cylinder. In case of vertical fins, the maximum local Nusselt number of conducting tube appears at ${\theta}{\fallingdotseq}145^{\circ}$ and that of outer cylinder appears at ${\theta}=0^{\circ}$, for $l_F=0.3$. In case of horizontal fins, the maximum local Nusselt number of conducting tube appears at ${\theta}=180^{\circ}$ and that of outer cylinder appears at ${\theta}=0^{\circ}$. The local Nusselt number of the upper fin and the downward fin shows negative values for $l_F=1.0$. The local Nusselt number of the lower fin and the downward fin shows higher values than that of the upper fin and the upward fin. The mean Nusselt number of conducting tube in case of vertical fins are increased in order of $l_F=0.6$, 0.3, 1.0 and 0.0, but in case of horizontal fins, in order of $l_F=1.0$, 0.6, 0.3, and 0.0. The mean Nusselt number of outer cylinder in case of vertical fins are increased in order of $l_F=1.0$, 0.0, 0.3 and 0.6, but in case of horizontal fins, in order of $l_F=0.6$, 1.0, 0.3, and 0.0.

  • The body-tied FinFETs (bulk FinFETs) implemented on bulk Si substrate were characterized through 3-dimensional device simulation. By controlling the doping profile along the vertical fin body, the bulk FinFETs can be scaled down to sub-30 nm. Device characteristics with the body shape were also shown. At a contact resistivity of $1{\times}10^{-7}\;{\Omega}\;cm^2$, the device with side metal contact of fin source/drain showed higher drain current by about two. The C-V results were also shown for the first time.

  • Laminar natural convection heat transfer from a horizontal heat exchanger tube with one infinitely long vertical plate fin has been studied by a finite-difference numerical procedure. In predicting convective heat transfer from a circular tube, the thermal boundary condition at solid fluid interface is usually assumed to be isothermal. However, in reality, the thermal boundary condition is not isothermal, and the tube has the thickness and the conductivity. So the temperature at the interface is not known a priori to the calculation. This problem has the conjugate phenomena which occur between the tube conduction and external natural convection, and between the fin conduction and external natural convection. Numerical results are obtained to determine the effects of the conductivity of solid wall and the thickness of tube wall on heat transfer. It is found that the conduction causes significant influence on the natural convection heat transfer at low K and high ${\delta}$.

  • The morphology of the post-larva of Liopropoma japonicum of the family serranidae is described from one specimen collected off Jeju Island ($32^{\circ}42'N,\;127^{\circ}45'E$) on May 3, 2001. The body is laterally compressed and caudal peduncle deep at 19.4 mm BL. Anus locates at a vertical through posteriormost(8th) dorsal-fin spine. Dorsal fin rays were VIII, 14; anal fin rays III, 10; pectroal fin rays 16; pelvic fin rays I, 5. A caudal fin is rounded. Length of elongate second and third dorsal-fin spines are 499% and 423% of the body length, respectively. A series of 50 sensory pores on body is elongated to caudal fin. Head spination is well developed. Melanophores are moderately large and dense in the head, and are small and rare in teh neck. Being freshly collected, the body color is yellowish-red and tail is semitransparent. The head is yellowish-red and the brain is dark-red.

  • A single specimen of Chaetodon vagabundus Linnaeus, 1758 belonging to the family Chaetodontidae was collected on September 8, 2013 in Yerae-dong, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Island, Korea. The morphological characteristics of C. vagabundus are similar to C. auriga and C. auripes in having dark vertical stripes cross the eye, but differs from C. auriga, which has high dorsal fin extended between spine and soft rays without concavity and has blotch of circle in dorsal fin, and from C. auripes which has yellow body, big of eye proportion and a black stripe along the caudal peduncle during the immature stage. C. vagabundus has eye-like black spots on dorsal fin and black vertical stripe extended from the anterior dorsal soft ray to the middle of the anal fin along the caudal peduncle. Molecular analysis results showed that our specimen perfectly matched C. vagabundus in the mitochondrial DNA COI sequences. Therefore, we use the Korean name, "Hwang-jul-na-bi-go-gi" for C. vagabundus proposed by Kim et al. (2020).

  • In this study, the heat transfer process around the finned channel tubes is numerically examined. Serially arranged tubes of an evaporator were used for heat exchange. The numerical analysis results confirmed that the vortex generated at the rear of the channel pipe was caused by the fin. Furthermore, it was also confirmed that the temperature difference was large between the inlet and outlet ends of the fin. The temperature of the location where the fin was attached to the channel pipe was found to be close to the surface temperature of the channel wall. However, the temperature rose rapidly closer to the ambient air temperature of 350 K towards the fin end, located at a distance of 0.035 m; it was found to have a significant influence on the heat transfer around the fin-attached channel tube. The wider the vertical flow path, the lower the total heat transfer coefficient. However, the overall heat transfer coefficient increased as the horizontal flow path narrowed. The increment is attributed to an increase in the heat transfer amount due to increased heat transfer surface.

  • We report the first occurrence of a tailless Girella leonina, collected from Jeju Island, Korea, in July 2016. This specimen has 10 scales below the median spinous portion of the dorsal fin, a black posterior margin of the operculum, and no pale vertical band on the body, and is therefore similar to the normal species, except that it has no caudal peduncle or caudal fin. The posterior parts of the dorsal and anal fins are gathered vertically at the posterior end of the body. A radiograph indicates that this abnormal specimen is lacking the vertebrae after vertebra 20.

  • In this paper, the compact model for FinFET gate resistance is developed. Based on the FinFET geometry and material, the value of the gate resistance is extracted by Y-parameter analysis using 3D device simulator, Sentaurus. By dividing the gate resistance into horizontal and vertical components, the proposed gate resistance model captures the non-linear characteristics. The proposed compact model reflects the realistic gate structure which has two different materials (Tungsten, TiN) stacked. Using the proposed model, the number of fins for the minimum gate resistance can be proposed based on the variation of gate geometrical parameters. The proposed gate resistance model is implemented in BSIM-CMG. A ring-oscillator is designed, and its delay performance is compared with and without gate resistance.

  • The kinematic variables for swimming and fin-swimming start motions were analyzed and compared using 3-dimensional cinematography. For the swimming start, the arm segment moved towards the upper rear and trunk towards the upper front followed by a descent towards the lower front, while the fin-swimming start motion showed movement towards the lower front for all segments. The total body center of gravity for the swimming start showed horizontal movement far to the front followed by a rapid descent while the fin-swimming start showed close movement towards the lower front in a short period of time. Upon entering the water, the center of gravity for swimming showed high vertical velocities while fin swimming had high horizontal velocities. For both swimming and fin swimming, the upper extremity velocity had more influence on the total center of gravity velocity than the lower extremities. Flexion of the hip joint was observed before the jump for the fin swimming start while the swimming start showed two flexions in mid-air succeeding the jump. The flexion and extension movements at the knee joint during the fin-swimming start motion were shown to be larger and more rapid than those of fin-swimming.
