According to the conversion of building into skyscraper, most buildings have curtain wall structures, so the shading device of building is required. The types of shading systems are a roller shade, venetian bind, and vatical blind and so on. A miler shade is mostly used among the shading systems. An experimental evaluation was verified whether there was an effect of shading materials(Perforated panel, Fabric) in each condition by an experiment with artificial lighting and daylight.
As ecological design elements, daylighting can be applied to provide adequate illumination on visual tasks to create an attractive visual environment and to save electrical energy. Daylighting control systems reject direct sunlight and penetrate it onto the ceiling or to deep into the room. This study aims to evaluate the luminance environment of sloped light guide with automated venetian blind systems according to sun angle changes. For evaluation, a mock-up model was used and the south facing side-window mounted between the clerestory window and the view window. To assess luminance performance, 3 view points of luminance were monitored. As results, the conventional and lightshelves show ideal luminance ratio between workplane and surroundings(3:1) and workplane and darkness area(2:1) due to total ratio of surroundings and darkness area has lower ratio than workplane. Compared to the lightshelves window, conventional window shows unrelieved effect in between the workplane and brightness area(1:5). It means that there has low deviation according to the required standards. Also, compared to the ratio between the brightness area and darkness area(2~6:1) conventional window with high deviation(10~20:1) provide discomfort glare due to the excessively strong contrast, while lightshelves window shows a required luminance ratio that provide a three-dimensional effect to occupants. Therefore, luminance distribution indicate that application of a lightshelves and blinds not only has a significantly positive effect but also offers higher luminance quality in a daylit room
The Korean government has a plan to mandate zero-energy buildings in 2020 for public and 2025 for private buildings. In order to design a zero-energy building, insulation and airtightness, which are the most basic elements of passive house technology, are required, and the government has been accomplished this through step-by-step strengthening of related standards. In passive house with high thermal insulation and airtightness performance, the heat introduced into the building through solar radiation can be stored for a long time to keep the inside warm during winter. On the other hand, during summer, heat introduced into the building cannot be easily released to outside, so it is necessary to actively block solar radiation and high temperature outdoor air to prevent an increase of indoor temperature. Therefore, this study aims to derive an appropriate operation condition of passive house to maintain the indoor temperature at an suitable level according to the ventilation methods and solar shading conditions. As a result, under the conditions that the outdoor temperature was 28℃ or less, the ventilation using a heat recovery ventilation system at daytime and natural ventilation at nighttime were selected for the most appropriate operation method. In addition, in the case of solar shading, it was found that blocking solar radiation at daytime using the blind and open the blind at nighttime to ensure natural ventilation were selected for the most appropriate solar shading condition.

Daylighting is the controlled admission of natural light into a space, reducing electric lighting and saving energy. By providing a direct link to the dynamic and perpetually evolving patterns of outdoor illumination, daylighting helps create a visually stimulating and comfort environment for building occupants, while reducing energy costs. Especially, however, glare is the most important factor in daylighting, which is issued by incoming direct sunlight into windows. This study analyzed the discomfort glare on a daylighting window by using Image processing methodology and found a solution to problems with glare source of occupants. There are several ways to evaluate discomfort glare such as UGR (Unified Glare Rating) of CIE, DGI (Daylight Glare Index, Hopkinson, 1972) and VCP (Visual Comfort Probability) of IES. These are used to apply to the relatively little artificial light source and they cannot cover discomfort glare from a real daylighting window. In this regarding, this paper aimed to calculate DGI index of the real daylighting window in a experimental space by using image processing methodology. The variables and outcomes are luminance distribution of non-shading window, effect of venetian blind installed on the window and locations related to position index of DGI.
A photoelectric dimming control system for a small private office space with a double skin envelope system was analyzed for the purpose of examining optimum control performances under a variety of daylight conditions. Computer simulations were performed for the three different photosensor types positioned at the center of ceiling in the space. They were applied in both a south and north-facing room. Daylight conditions were a fixed horizontal venetian blind on an external envelope and a retractable shading device on an internal envelope under a clear, intermediate and overcast sky at different times of a day and year. Partially-shielded photosensors provided good control performances providing the required electric light output under clear and intermediate sky conditions. Unshielded photosensors failed to provide necessary illuminance levels producing less electric output and fully-shielded photosensors generally provided excessive light output. Reasonable electric lighting energy savings were achieved except under overcast sky conditions where the control system did not contribute to energy savings due to the less daylight through envelopes. The retractable shading device covering 50% of the internal envelope reduced energy savings up to 19.62%, but the workplane illuminance levels were maintained within recommended ranges. The coefficients of determination between workplane illuminance and photosensor illuminance due to daylight ranged from 0.74 to 0.98. Partially-shielded conditions provided best correlations and the north-facing room yielded stronger correlation than the south-facing room.
The applications for retro-reflectors, with their unique reflection characteristics, have been expanding, to include venetian blind slats, displays, traffic safety mark, etc. We propose expandable structures of inclined corner cube retro-reflectors and analyze their corresponding reflection characteristics. Various traffic safety structures with retro-reflectors may be designed more quantitatively using the chart of characteristics we have presented.

A recent research trend on the Daylight Responsive Dimming Systems, using available daylight for energy savings, is to integrate automated roller shading systems and venetian blind systems which are vertically controlling daylight to indoor based on sun profile angle. Therefore, this paper suggests Grating Louver System into a pair glass as a new shading system, which can control daylight vertically and horizontally. The optimized spacing of louvers, which is to block direct sunlight into a space, was calculated. And then, the system was simulated for analysis and evaluation of characteristics of daylight by Desktop Radiance 2.0.
This study examines the influence of control algorithms on dimming performance to determine appropriate control setting when direct/indirect lighting is controlled by a daylight dimming system. Computer simulation were performed for a small office with double skin envelope under various daylight conditions. A retractable fabric shading and Venetian blind were applied for internal and external envelopes under three CIE standard sky conditions. Unshielded and partially-shielded photosensors were used, and three control algorithms were applied for the sensors. In general, dimming level was too excessive due to the direct impact of light from lighting fixture to the photosensor. Providing insufficient lighting output, the unshielded photosensor completely failed to secure required illuminance under any daylight condition. When a partially-shielded photosensor was applied under clear sky, three setting points functioned effectively. Less sensitivity for the partially-shielded photosensor was effective to control the dimming system optimally with reasonable energy saving. However, the daylight dimming control system for direct/indirect lighting does not appear to be energy effective when photosensors without enough shielded area is installed on ceiling where light from fixtures reaches directly.
There are lots of buildings which were built before the Legislation on building energy rating system. Remodeling of the buildings would be required for an improvement of the building energy rating system was enforced by the government. In the Passive Building Design, Elements which will be used for the remodeling are Insulation, Window, External venetian blind, Heat exchanger. The Purpose of this study is to indicate a Method for the improvement of Energy saving by an analysis of Construction Cost, Cost Evaluation, Energy performance Efficiency in applied design elements. In this study, the remodeling of existing public buildings to improve energy efficiency rating was applied to extract the elements of design-specific energy performance, efficiency, and the application of the designs that has been analyzed. The results were as follows: applying the design-specific cost-effective investment that represents the economy (investment efficiency/%) surveyed the average insulation(7.0%), triple glazed windows(10.1%), double glazed windows(12.1%), external shading(24.5%), and Heat(77.2%) were analyzed in order to be more efficient. Analysis of the basis of information on the existing public buildings to improve energy efficiency rating for the remodeling depending on driving conditions at a degree of individual difference. The main effect, however, depending on economic investment, design elements, heat exchangers, external awning, double glazed windows, triple glazed windows, insulation, is recommended as review of the order shall be determined.
In order to prevent incoming solar radiation, it is necessary to study about blinds' blocking out effects of heat that are installed at the balcony at an apartment house. To figure out the heating effects from the windows, a study for indoor thermal environment according to the location of blinds is also needed. In order to find out the changes of indoor thermal environment, we'll compare models of a house building with or without Venetian blinds: one place has an extended living room removing a balcony and another one has a normal balcony. The result is as follows. Without blinds, the place with an extended living room has benefits for saving heat compare to the place with a normal balcony. It's because the warm air heated by the incoming solar radiation moves into the living room through convection current and radiation which causes an increase of the indoor temperature. At an extended living room, the temperature difference from outside and inside, when blinds were installed inside, was $1.9^{\circ}C$ while it was $0.6^{\circ}C$ when the blinds were installed at outside of the balcony. It is evaluated that setting up the blind outside prevents much heat. At the space with a normal balcony, installing blinds at living room windows can save much heat compare to installing blinds at windows at the balcony. The indoor temperature was low when blinds were installed. It can be said that blinds block heat from the incoming solar radiation. Moreover, when blinds are installed, there is a big change of indoor temperature due to the radiation from the blinds' slat and convective activities in between the blinds and windows. This also has to be considered.
