  • The study focuses on what to consider and do for the improvement of math education of Korea by comparing two general high school students' and two specialized high school students' beliefs about mathematics and mathematics learning. The major topics compared in the beliefs are composed of perception of mathematics as a science, learning methods of mathematics. The results of the study show that two general high school students tend to set more low value on mathematics, especially in the value of implement, civilization, utility of mathematics than that of two specialized high school students.

  • This paper presents the numerical valuation of the two-asset step-down equitylinked securities (ELS) option by using the operator-splitting method (OSM). The ELS is one of the most popular financial options. The value of ELS option can be modeled by a modified Black-Scholes partial differential equation. However, regardless of whether there is a closedform solution, it is difficult and not efficient to evaluate the solution because such a solution would be represented by multiple integrations. Thus, a fast and accurate numerical algorithm is needed to value the price of the ELS option. This paper uses a finite difference method to discretize the governing equation and applies the OSM to solve the resulting discrete equations. The OSM is very robust and accurate in evaluating finite difference discretizations. We provide a detailed numerical algorithm and computational results showing the performance of the method for two underlying asset option pricing problems such as cash-or-nothing and stepdown ELS. Final option value of two-asset step-down ELS is obtained by a weighted average value using probability which is estimated by performing a MC simulation.

  • In this paper, we consider the multipoint boundary value problem for the one-dimensional p-Laplacian $({\phi}_p(u'))'$(t)+q(t)f(t,u(t),u'(t))=0, t $\in$ (0, 1), subject to the boundary conditions: $u(0)=\sum\limits_{i=1}^{n-2}{\alpha}_iu({\xi}_i),\;u(1)=\sum\limits_{i=1}^{n-2}{\beta}_iu({\xi}_i)$ where $\phi_p$(s) = $|s|^{n-2}s$, p > 1, $\xi_i$ $\in$ (0, 1) with 0 < $\xi_1$ < $\xi_2$ < $\cdots$ < $\xi{n-2}$ < 1 and ${\alpha}_i,\beta_i{\in}[0,1)$, 0< $\sum{\array}{{n=2}\\{i=1}}{\alpha}_i,\sum{\array}{{n=2}\\{i=1}}{\beta}_i$<1. Using a fixed point theorem due to Bai and Ge, we study the existence of at least three positive solutions to the above boundary value problem. The important point is that the nonlinear term f explicitly involves a first-order derivative.

  • This paper deals with the multipoint boundary value problem for one dimensional p-Laplacian $({\phi}_p(u'))'(t)$ + f(t,u(t)) = 0, $t{\in}$ (0, 1), subject to the boundary value conditions: u'(0) - $\sum\limits^n_{i=1}{\alpha_i}u({\xi}_i)$ = 0, u'(1) + $\sum\limits^n_{i=1}{\alpha_i}u({\eta}_i)$ = 0. Using a fixed point theorem for operators on a cone, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of multiple (at least three) positive solutions to the above boundary value problem.

  • This study is undertaken to clarify the evolution of the mathematics regarding the $\pi$ ratio, square root, trigonometric ration which are dealing by approximate value according to the curriculum of Korean Middle School and its subsequent growth of methods for attaining the approximate value. Furthermore a brief survey has been thought for assessing the significance of the core of approximate value and its utility which will be given a guide line to many young learners. I'd better teach these historical background to the students and it makes clear the approximate value and the content about the approximate value. This research should help to improve the student's ability of solving a problem by making them think it mathematically through the life and the effort of the mathematician.

  • In this study we explored the effect of reading in mathematics classroom on five mathematical affective characteristics of middle school students. 100 2nd male middle schoolers' were participated in this study and five affective characteristics - interests, self-confidence, recognition of mathematics value, self-regulation, and mathematics anxiety- were investigated. According to the results, reading in mathematics class had an overall positive effect. Especially the characteristics interests and self-confidence of students' were improved. And for the low level students all characteristics were improved. And based on the result of pre and post test, and interview with 6 students, we suggest that desirable reading in mathematics classroom.

  • Sufficient conditions for the existence of at least one solution of a class of multi-point boundary value problems of the fractional differential equations at resonance are established. The main theorem generalizes and improves those ones in [Liu, B., Solvability of multi-point boundary value problems at resonance(II), Appl. Math. Comput., 136(2003)353-377], see Remark 2.3. An example is presented to illustrate the main results.

  • In this paper, a method to find the weighted possibilistic variance and moments about the mean value of fuzzy numbers via applying a difuzzification using minimizer of the weighted distance between two fuzzy numbers is introduced. In this way, we obtain the nearest weighted point with respect to a fuzzy number, this main result is a new and interesting alternative justification to define of weighted mean of a fuzzy number. Considering this point and the weighted distance quantity, we introduce the weighted possibilistic mean (WPM) value and the weighted possibilistic variance(WPV) of fuzzy numbers. This paper shows that WPM is the nearest weighted point to fuzzy number and the WPV of fuzzy number is preserved more properties of variance in probability theory so that it can simply introduce the possibilistic moments about the mean of fuzzy numbers without problem. The moments of fuzzy numbers play an important role to estimate of parameters, skewness, kurtosis in many of fuzzy times series models.
