  • Adhesion tests were conducted to investigate the adhesion characteristics between mold and thermoplastic polymer film. Coating of anti-sticking layer (ASL), a kind of polymer material, imprint pressure, and separation velocity were considered as the process conditions. A piece of fused silica without patterns on its surface was used as a mold and the thermoplastic polymer films were made on Si substrate by spin-coating the commercial polymer solution such as mr-I PMMA and mr-I 7020. The ASL was derived from (1H, 1H, 2H, 2H - perfluorooctyl) trichlorosilane($F_{13}$-OTS) and coated on the fused silica mold in vapor phase. The pull-off force was measured in various process conditions and the surfaces of the mold and the polymer film were observed after separation. It was found that the adhesion characteristics between the mold and the thermoplastic polymer film and the release performance of ASL were changed according to the process conditions. The ASL was effective to reduce the pull-off force and the damage of polymer film. In cases of the mold coated with ASL, the pull-off force did not depend on imprint pressure and separation velocity.

  • A two-phase closed thermosyphon with circular fins was used as the heat transfer device for storing the thermal energy in paraffin wax. Experiments were carried out for 4, 6 and 8 fins and for various initial temperatures of the wax and power inputs. Heat transfer characteristics along the heat flow path were investigated as well as the overall performance of the system. Some of the important results are as follows:(1) The thermosyphon heat transfer coefficient and the overall heat transfer coefficient increased with the number of fins, whereas the heat transfer coefficient between the fin and the wax decreased; (2) Facilitation of heat transfer by the fins seemed to alleviate the dry-out phenomenon that had been reported to occur in case of bare thermosyphon; and (3) The horizontal fins had adverse effect of subduing a full scale convection in the wax, and the increase of the number of fins delayed the onset of local convection between the fins.

  • MLI(Multi-layer Insulation) is widely used to get highly insulating on cryogenic system in order to reduce heat loads. MLI for satellites thermal performance is changed by materials and laminated method. In this study, a composite multilayer insulation by application of heat stroage tank performance were compared with materials and laminated to change the way. Experimental methods of the KS C 9805 was used, the composite multilayer insulation and EPS was compared with the insulation performance. A method for analysis of experimental results is the equivalent thickness about CMI and the insulation performance were used to compare thermal conductance. As a results, the equivalnet thickenss and the thermal conductance of the composite multilayer insulation were smaller than the EPS and the thermal performance are more excellent. In addition, the configuration of the composite multilayer insulation materials and laminated method varies depending on the overall heat transfer coefficient was confirmed.

  • The thermal expansion and mechanical properties of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) with mercaptan hardeners were studied by a comparative method with an amine-adduct type hardener. Thermal expansion and dynamic mechanical properties were measured by thermo mechanical analysis (TMA) and dynamic mechanical ananlysis (DMA), respectively. The $T_g$ and the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of epoxy/amine-adduct type hardener system were $82.6^{\circ}C$ and 71.2 $ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively. As the number of -SH functional group of mercaptan hardener increased, the $T_g$ rapidly decreased and gradually increased up to ca. $80^{\circ}C$ and the CTE under the $T_g$ rapidly increased to ca. 200 $ppm/^{\circ}C$ from 80 $ppm/^{\circ}C$ and decreased to ca. 100 $ppm/^{\circ}C$. The crosslinking density of epoxy with amine-adduct type hardener was ca.1.5 $mol/cm^3$, while that of epoxy with mercaptan hardeners increased from 1.0 to 1.7 $mol/cm^3$, as the number of -SH functional group increased. The storage modulus can increase up to 2700MPa at $30^{\circ}C$.

  • The PMU (Payload Management Unit) in MSC (Multi-Spectral Camera) is the main subsystem for the management, control and power supply of the MSC payload operation. The PMU shall handle the communication with the BUS (Spacecraft) OBC (On Board Computer) for the command, the telemetry and the communications with the various MSC units. The PMU will perform that distributes power to the various MSC units, collects the telemetry reports from MSC units, performs thermal control of the EOS (Electro-Optical Subsystem), performs the NUC (Non-Uniformity Correction) function of the raw imagery data, and rearranges the pixel data and output it to the DCSU (Data Compression and Storage Unit). The BUS provides high voltage to the MSC. The PMU is connected to primary and redundant BUS power and distributes the high unregulated primary voltages for all MSC sub-units. The PSM (Power Supply Module) is an assembly in the PMU implements the interface between several channels on the input. The bus switches are used to prevent a single point system failure. Such a failure could need the PSS (Power Supply System) requirement to combine the two PSM boards' bus outputs in a wired-OR configuration. In such a configuration if one of the boards' output gets shorted to ground then the entire bus could fail thereby causing the entire MSC to fail. To prevent such a short from pulling down the system, the switch could be opened and disconnect the short from the bus. This switch operation is controlled by the BUS.

  • The Electrical Power System (EPS) shall supply required power to maintain spacecraft and payload during the mission. The EPS sizing are based on space environment, satellite mission and lifetime, and allocated budgets. The type of the primary and secondary power is determined according to satellite design-level and allocated subsystem budgets. The design of EPS has closely related to system and others' subsystems design. To supply the sufficient power to the satellite, the implementation of the larger power source and energy storage is impossible actually. And there will be some problems of the attitude control of the satellite, the handling power capability of the electronic boxes, and launch vehicle selection caused by EPS oversizing. Also, the thermal control is not easy in the space by extra power. And the maintenance of the satellite within the specific orbit from orbit-drag is a big design burden of the thruster. So the various technologies have been developed to optimize the EPS sizing and to operate the power system efficiently.

  • A brief description of the current technology (contact-start-stop) employed in most of today's hard disk drive is presented. The dynamics and head/disk interactions during a start/stop process are very complicated and no one has been able to accurately model the interactions. Thus, the head/disk interface that meets the start/stop durability and stiction requirements are always developed statistically. In arriving at a solution. many sets of statistical tests are run by varying several parameters. such as, the carbon overcoat thickness. lubricant thickness. disk surface roughness, etc. Consequently, the cost associated III developing an interface could be significant since the outcome is difficult to predict. An alternative method known as Load/Unload technology alters the problem set. such that. the start/stop performance can be designed in a predictable manner. Although this techno¬logy offers superior performance and significantly reduces statistical testing time, it also has some potential problems. However. contrary to the CSS technology. most of the problems can be solved by design and not by trial and error. One critical problem is that of head/disk contacts during the loading and unloading processes. These contact can cause disk and slider damage because the contacts are likely to occur at high disk speeds resulting in large friction forces. Use of glass substrate disks also may present problems if not managed correctly. Due to the low thermal conductivity of glass substrates. any head/disk contacts may result in erasure due to frictional heating of the head/disk interface. In spite of these and other potential problems. the advantage with L/UL system is that these events can be understood. analyzed. and solved in a deterministic manner.

  • The lack of controllability over the wind causes fluctuations in the output power of the wind generators (WGs) located at the wind farms. Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) equipped with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) can significantly smooth these fluctuations by injecting or absorbing appropriate amount of active power, thus, controlling the power flow of WGs. But because of the component aging and thermal drift, its harmonic filter parameters vary, resulting in performance degradation. In this paper, Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) is used as a robust control scheme in order to deactivate the effects of filter parameters variations on the wind power generation power smoothing performance. The proposed robust control strategy of the DSTATCOM is successfully applied to a microgrid, including WGs. The simulation results obviously show that the proposed control technique can effectively smooth the fluctuations in the wind turbines' (WT) output power caused by wind speed variations; taking into account the filter parameters variations (structural parameter uncertainties).

  • To develope chemical heat pump using available energy sources, solar heat and other kinds of waste thermal energy, we have studied the material and heat transfer rate in the cylindrical bed reactor packed with Calcined Dolomite. Our results from the studies are as follows ; 1 The time needed to complete dehydration reaction at the wall side of the cylindrical reactor(r/rL=0.5) was shorter than that of the center(r/rL=0.0) as much as 12%. 2. Two dimensional (radial and circumferential) partial differential equations, concerning heat and mass transfer rate in the packed bed of calcined Dolomite, are solved numerically to describe the characteristics of the reaction in the cylindrical reactor. The solution reads rate of reaction in the packed bed reactor depends on the temperature and concentration of reactants. These results read the supplied heat transfers from the wall side of the cylinder to the center, dehydration reaction begins at the inner side of the wall of the cylindrical reactor and the dehydration reaction proceeds from the wall side to center of cylinder.

  • To develope chemical heat pump using available energy sources, solar heat and other kinds of waste thermal energy, we have studied the heat transfer rate in cylindrical bed reactor packed with calcined Dolomite. Two dimensional (radial and circumferential) Partial differential equations, concerning heat and mass transfer in packed bed of calcined Dolomite, are solved numerically to describe the characteristics of the reaction of calcined Dolomite and heat transfer. The results obtained by numerical analysis about two dimensional profiles of temperature and conversion of reactant in the packed bed reactor and the amount of exothermic heat released from the reactor are follows. It was found that all of calcined Dolomite packed bed kept the reaction temperature of about 750K throughout the entire part of the bed, immediately after the steam was introduced exothermic reaction of hydration was proceeded from the packed bed inpu to output and from wall side to center. The rate of thermochemical reaction depends on the temperature and concentration and it is also governed by the boundary conditions and heat transfer rate in the particle packed bed.
