  • The purpose of this article is to study few properties of fuzzy mean open and fuzzy mean closed sets in fuzzy topological spaces. Further, the idea of fuzzy mean clopen set is introduced. It is observed that a fuzzy mean clopen set is both fuzzy mean open and fuzzy mean closed but the converse is not true.

  • In this paper, we define a mean of two positive numbers called the k-golden mean and study some properties of it. Especially, we show that the 2-golden mean refines the harmonic and the geometric means. As an application, we define the k-golden ratio and give some properties of it as an generalization of the golden ratio. Furthermore, we define the matrix k-golden mean of two positive-definite matrices and give some properties of it. This is an improvement of Lim's results [2] for which the matrix golden mean.

  • We define new inductive mean constructed by a mean on a complete metric space, and see its convergence when the intrinsic mean is given. We also give many examples of inductive matrix means and claim that the limit of inductive mean constructed by the intrinsic mean is not the Karcher mean, in general.

  • In school mathematics, the concept of an average is not a concept that is limited to a unit of statistics. In particular, high school students will learn about arithmetic mean and geometric mean in the process of learning absolute inequality. In calculus learning, the concept of average is involved when learning the concept of average speed. The arithmetic mean is the same as the procedure used when students mean the test scores. However, the procedure for obtaining the geometric mean differs from the procedure for the arithmetic mean. In addition, if the arithmetic mean and the geometric mean are the discrete quantity, then the mean rate of change or the average speed is different in that it considers continuous quantities. The average concept that students learn in school mathematics differs in the quantitative nature of procedures and objects. Nevertheless, it is not uncommon to find out how students construct various mathematical concepts into mathematical knowledge. This study focuses on this point and conducted the interviews of the students(three) in the second grade of high school. And the expression of students in the process of average concept formation in arithmetic mean, geometric mean, average speed. This study can be meaningful because it suggests practical examples to students about the assertion that various scholars should experience various properties possessed by the average. It is also meaningful that students are able to think about how to construct the mean conceptual properties inherent in terms such as geometric mean and mean speed in arithmetic mean concept through interview data.

  • Taking the weighted geometric mean [11] on the cone of positive definite matrix, we propose an iterative mean algorithm involving weighted arithmetic and geometric means of $n$-positive definite matrices which is a weighted version of Carlson mean presented by Lee and Lim [13]. We show that each sequence of the weigthed Carlson iterative mean algorithm has a common limit and the common limit of satisfies weighted multidimensional versions of all properties like permutation symmetry, concavity, monotonicity, homogeneity, congruence invariancy, duality, mean inequalities.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine whether the NCASA (Nursing Child Assessment Sleep/Activity Record) would be suitable to evaluate and to provide the basic resources for a Korean model of sleep/activity patterns during the first 6 months Korean infants' lives and to provide a basis for nursing intervention for mothers of early infants. The subjects of this study were 94 normal infants from birth to 6 months of age who visited the postpartum care center and two general hospitals located in Pusan from February 1 to April 28, 2000. The method of data collection was through convenient sampling. The instrument of this study was the NCASA translated by the Korean parent Child Health Academic Association. The collected data were analysed by mean, standard deviation, frequency percentage and ANOVA, Post Hoc test by use of SPSS/PC. The conclusions obtained from this study are summarized as follows: 1. The mean amount of daytime sleep was 8.06 hours. The mean amount of nighttime sleep was 6.31 hours. The mean amount of total daily sleep was 14.37 hours. The mean of the longest sleep period was 5.20 hours. The mean regularity of daytime sleep was 25.84%. The mean regularity of nighttime sleep was 77.69%. The mean regularity of total daily sleep was 42.60%. The mean frequency of nighttime wakenings was 2.33 times. 2. The mean amount of daytime activity was 8.25 hours. The mean amount of nighttime activity was 1.39 hours. The mean amount of daily total activity was 9.64 hours. The mean of the longest activity period was 3.80 hours The mean frequency of daytime feeding was 5.69 times. The mean frequency of nighttime feeding was 2.08 times. The mean frequency of total daily feeding was 7.74 times. The mean frequency regularity of feeding was 54.62%. The mean frequency of wakenings was 5.14 times. The mean frequency of crying was 1.90 times. 3. According to an analysis of sleep patterns based on an infant's age, there were some significant differences in the following factors: amount of daytime sleep(p<.001), amount of night time sleep(p<.05), amount of total daily sleep (p<.001), longest sleep period(p<.001), regularity of daytime sleep(p<.001), regularity of nighttime sleep(p<.01), regularity of total daily sleep(p<.001), frequency of nighttime wakenings(p<.001). 4. According to an analysis of activity patterns based on an infant's age, there were some significant differences in the following factors: amount of daytime activity(p<.001), amount of nighttime activity(p<.01), amount of total daily activity(p<.001), longest activity period(p<.05), frequency of nighttime feeding(p<.01), frequency of wakenings(p<.001). 5. The mean amount of a mother's day time was 16.30 hours. The mean amount of a mother's night time was 7.70 hours. In conclusion, the initial irregular sleeping and activity patterns of the early infant became regurized as the infant grew older and estabilished firmer patterns of sleeping and of activity.

  • Mean separated histogram equalization in order to preserve the original mean brightness has been proposed. To provide the minimum mean brightness error after the histogram modification, the input image's histogram is successively divided by the factor of 2 until the mean brightness error is satisfied the defined threshold. Then each divided group or sub-histogram will be independently equalized based on the proportional input mean. To provide the overall minimum mean brightness error, each group will be controlled by adding some certain pixels from the adjacent grey level of the next group for giving its mean near by the corresponding the divided mean. However, it still exists some little error which will be put into the next adjacent group. By successive dividing the original histogram, we found that the absolute mean brightness error is gradually decreased when the number of group is increased. Therefore, the error threshold is assigned in order to automatically dividing the original histogram for obtaining the desired absolute mean brightness error (AMBE). This process will be applied to the color image by treating each color independently.
