  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the direction of how to educate water shortage problem to middle school students. In the reality that many people of the world have been painful of the water shortage problem, Korea is classified as 'water shortage country'. Here, we investigated the awareness of middle school students about the contents related to the water shortage problem by surveying with the questionnaires developed in this study. And we analyzed how water shortage problem appeared in the environmental textbook of middle school. Based on these, we examined the direction of environmental education in middle school on the theme of the water shortage problem. The results of the survey showed that students revealed difference of knowledge and experience, and also revealed difference of knowledge and feeling related to the water shortage problem. The students had the knowledge about water shortage problem but they did not have experience in their real lives. Also, the results of the survey showed that students had attitude of waste in water use, even though they had awareness and knowledge about the importance of water resources. And the students did not have enough knowledge related to the water shortage problem. From the analysis of the textbooks, We found that the contents were not composed to enhance deep understanding of the students about the water shortage problem. Based on the analysis of the results, the directions of middle school environmental education in Korea about water shortage problem were extracted in this research.

  • Skemp supposed that it is effective to use both examples and non-examples when new concepts which are upper level than learner's schema are introduced. The purpose of this research is to develop a practical process of teaching geometrical concepts based on Skemp's assumption. For this, the related literatures are reviewed and the Korean textbooks(4-ga, 4-na) are analyzed with respect to method of concept formation. The analysis to]Is that the textbook just explains Properties of concepts or present definitions, instead of giving the chance of inquiry. So we design and apply six step process of teaching geometrical concepts to 4th graders focused on students' inquiry using both examples and non-examples.'rho result turns out that using examples and non-examples is highly positive to concept formation.

  • In this study, a part of high school science instructional materials is evaluated by Instructional Quality Profile(IQP) based on the Merrill's Component Display Theory(CDT). The CDT is based on the Gagne's assumption of different conditions of learning for different outcomes. The IQP enables the user to check both the consistency and adequacy of existing cognitive instruction. The IQP can be used to predict student performance, and also to design and develop new instructional materials. The instructional components are classified according to 5 task levels; An Use-Generalities on Newly Encountered Examples(UGeg), A Remember-Paraphrased-Generalities(RpG), A Remember-Verbatim-Generalities(RvG), A Remember-Paraphrased-Examples (Rpeg). A Remember-Verbatim-Examples (Rveg). The analyses are composed of 3 parts; Justifying the task level of objectives, Objective-test consistency, and Test-presentation consistency. The objectives, the presentations and the tests given in a teacher's guide and a textbook are analyzed. The results show that the task levels and the content levels of the objectives are not consistent with those of the tests. And the indices of the test-presentation consistency indicate the presentation problems of the instructional materials.

  • This research explored the importance of conflict resolution in communication between adolescents and their parents. A teaching and learning plan on communication using the Active listening, I-message method and no-lose conflict resolution method was developed and applied to teaching the 'Communication among Family Members' unit in the middle school home economics and technology textbook. The experimental class of 203 students using the active listening, I message and no-lose conflict resolution method in communication was compared with a comparative class of 163 students using only the active listening and I message method, investigating the amounts of communication, conflicts, functional communication and degree of satisfaction the students perceived regarding relationships with their parents via pre and post tests. Both groups showed significant increases in their amounts of communication and functional communication. However, only the experimental class showed an increase in their degree of relationship satisfaction with their parents. Both groups evaluated the lesson positively.

  • Nutrition education in elementary school is confronted with the present problem, as a legal basis about obligation of nutrition education in school was clarified. Moreover, it's also important for providing evidence based scientific resources to make a study of evaluating the education effectiveness. Most studies of the nutrition education effectiveness have evaluated the changing dietary attitude and nutritional knowledge score before and after the nutrition education, and suggested the effectiveness of intervention as changing between pre- and post-treatment. Nutrition education, however, purposing long-term changes, follow-up evaluation process about the learned attitude and knowledge of nutrition education were requested. For these reasons, this study attempted to fulfilled standardized nutrition education program which use "Na Story and Food World" and "Na Story for Me", a textbook for the 1st-3rd grade and 4th-6th grade designed by KFDA, and analyzed the changes about the effectiveness of nutrition education happened over a period of time. In this study, each student was assessed their dietary attitude and nutritional knowledge by four periods, before the education, right after the education, after 3 months, and after 6 months. As a result, an average score of nutritional knowledge before the education, $70.08{\pm}17.91$, were changed significantly higher right after the education to $85.69{\pm}15.05$ (p < 0.001), but it lowered to $84{\pm}15.56$ after 3 month. After the nutrition education, students in all grades had positive dietary attitude to Na reduction (p < 0.001). However, the healthy eating attitude about Na reduction had been unable to maintain after 3 and 6 months. Therefore, the systematic reeducated program in elementary school was positively necessary to reinforce children's learning and cognitive skills to maintain healthy eating knowledge and attitude toward Na reduction.

  • Recent years have seen an increased demand for calculators as a learning and teaching tool. It is asserted calculators should be utilized as an instructional tool before computers considering their lower price, connivence of easy, and variety of function. Towards this end, it is essential that we persuade teachers and parents who worry that the use of calculators would result in a decrease in students' ability to calculate. Specifically, effort should be made to point out the advantage that calculators have. First of all, calculators could lessen the mental and time pressure attendant upon paper-and-pencil calculation. It have also been reported that calculators are effective in teaching the concept unalgorithmal content, learning of principle, and problem-solving skills, In light of these advantages, this study investigates the kinds of practice items that can be included in the textbooks to help students develop computing skills using calculators.

  • This study was to investigate novice teachers' Specialized Content Knowledge for Teaching in High School Calculus Lessons. The lessons of two novice teachers in Kyunggi Do were observed from July, 2011 to Feb. 2012. All observed lessons were audeotaped and transcribed into word files. Their calculus lessons were analyzed into three kinds of knowledge consisting of SCKT. Their SCKT just copied the contents of the textbook and other additional SCKT were not found for teaching. Even though students asked a question that they did not understand, the teacher just repeated the previous contents that already he used. But this study included possible contents of SCKT within the areas these teachers covered so that teachers in school may use for teaching of Calculus. The novice teacher do not have sufficient experience, the program of the college of education and the contents of the teacher certificate-examination should include multi-dimensional approaches in SCKT to pre-service teachers in order to raise better specialized teachers in mathematics.

  • The purpose of this study is to support elementary teachers to use the teaching of weights and measures. To help the author of the next elementary mathematics textbook to be used as a reference for the quantitative narrative process. For this purpose, I focused on the contents of textbooks in terms of definition, a unit of measure, and calculation. As a result, first, as for the definition of weights and measures, it is taken as an example rather than as an explicit statement. Second, several problems were found in the metrology content and metric unit introduction order. Third, the computation between measurement units stood in simple computation rather than procedural knowledge. Fourth, it was concluded that the reason and groundbreaking of the grade-specific differences and the amount of a student's education are necessary.
