  • Science education has been in a state of crisis for some time. To understand the science teacher's role, it is helpful to reconsider an aspect as fundamental as the nature of science. Since teaching cannot be separated from learning and knowledge, their very close dynamic processes need to prescribe the role of the teacher and student simultaneously. However, traditional views are limited because they tend to emphasize some particular selected aspect of learning and teaching. This paper investigates the epistemology of Michael Polanyi (1891 1976), which is often considered to transcend the confrontation between objectivity and subjectivity of knowledge. Polanyi reconceptualized science knowledge as 'personal knowledge' based on his own experience as a scientist and a thinker. In this study, I discuss 1) the nature of science in light of Polanyi's epistemology, 2) what this says about the meaning of science learning and teaching, 3) the potential of these ideas for the role of the science teacher.

  • This paper shows how the social tradition and belief of korea on education affects teachers and students and learning. 1 Interview with teacher. During surveying this teacher's class, we knowed that the teacher have accentuated algorism loaming and preparation fur external examination in math class. Teacher's beliefs about mathematics have a strong effect on the method of class and the performance of problem solving 2. Interview with students and short test. 1) Students usually had fine ability of calculation for number. But Many pupils didn't know the meaning of the operations. 2) The most of pupils are good at routine math problem solving but when the question whose the condition don't meet was given, they experienced difficulties.3.Korean sociocultural specialty on education: The korean place high emphasis on education and think of education as the means of success. This emphasis can be traced to the Confucian view. 1) tradition on examination culture. 2) the traditional convention of the learning method. Korean sociocultural specialty on education play role of strengthen role learning and algorism class. The important things to education reformation are getting a balance between practice and understanding. we should make changes not only in national dimension but also in math class.

  • In this study, we focused on the graphing calculator to support the activity-oriented mathematics instruction with considering the accessibility of technology. The purpose of this study was to investigate the direction of the education of mathematics teachers. For this, we gave the teacher training for mathematics using graphing calculators for secondary mathematics teachers, and then examined the recognition for that of teachers. Teacher training of the graphing calculator was carried out three times in two years, we conducted a survey immediately at the time that has passed and after the 8 months or more after the training. As a result, we have obtained the suggestions of the advantages of using a graphing calculator in the learning mathematics, the difficulties of use of the graphing calculator in the classroom and the form of teacher training they want.

  • This study intended to find evidence of changes in teacher beliefs of teaching and learning and a case of infusing research experiences in teaching modules since their research participation. As part of this study, twenty three science and math teachers in Korea were provided with science research labs and field experiences in the University of Iowa for three weeks. The research units that teachers participated in for three weeks covered seven fields of subjects such as: geology, astronomy, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, and environmental engineering. In the course of this study, the effectiveness of science research participation program was explored in terms of changing teacher beliefs and their production of teaching modules based on their research. This study especially focused on identifying changes of beliefs on science teaching and learning after participating in the research. A case study of a participant teacher was also conducted by comparing descriptively teaching modules before and after experiencing the program. It was found that the program affected the new modules and the research experiences affected participants' beliefs toward student centeredness.

  • Recently, various platforms of education technology (Edu-Tech) that use artificial intelligence have been developed in the field of mathematics education. The case study in this paper reports the learning experience of a high school student who was directed to learn mathematics through the self-directed learning process provided by a mathematics learning platform using Edu-Tech with the intervention of mentoring provided by his teacher. The study found that the mentoring intervention could make an effective contribution to student's mathematics learning by playing the role of an auxiliary tool for the self-directed learning over time. In this paper, we explain the nature of the challenges that the student encountered in the process of self-directed learning and the roles that the teacher mentoring has played in this process.

  • Far field input utterance is one of the major causes of performance degradation of speaker verification systems. In this study, we used teacher student learning framework to compensate for the performance degradation caused by far field utterances. Teacher student learning refers to training the student deep neural network in possible performance degradation condition using the teacher deep neural network trained without such condition. In this study, we use the teacher network trained with near distance utterances to train the student network with far distance utterances. However, through experiments, it was found that performance of near distance utterances were deteriorated. To avoid such phenomenon, we proposed techniques that use trained teacher network as initialization of student network and training the student network using both near and far field utterances. Experiments were conducted using deep neural networks that input raw waveforms of 4-channel utterances recorded in both near and far distance. Results show the equal error rate of near and far-field utterances respectively, 2.55 % / 2.8 % without teacher student learning, 9.75 % / 1.8 % for conventional teacher student learning, and 2.5 % / 2.7 % with proposed techniques.

  • There are many studies that intrinsic learning motivation and social support play an important role in the study of children and adolescents. However, studies examining the effects of intrinsic learning motivation and social support by measuring the actual academic performance of elementary school students are rare. This study attempted to verify the effect of intrinsic learning motivation on Korean language performance and moderating effect of social support in 5th and 6th graders in elementary school. 122 elementary school students in local county-level areas participated in this study. The Korean language test was conducted about 5 months after intrinsic learning motivation and social support of families and teachers were measured. The results revealed that Korean language performance showed a significant positive correlation with intrinsic learning motivation and social support, and also showed a significant correlation between learning motivation and social support. In the regression analysis with control variables, it was found that intrinsic learning motivation had a significant effect on Korean language performance. The moderating effect of social support was analyzed by dividing it into family support and teacher support. The interaction effect of learning motivation and social support was significant only in teacher support, not in family support. In specific, when teacher support was high, Korean language performance was high regardless of the student's learning motivation level, but when teacher support was low, the student's learning motivation mattered in the performance. Based on the results of this study, implications and limitations were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze teacher's teaching-learning strategies and young children's concepts related to mathematics and science in integrated mathematics and science education activities. To achieve this purpose, actual class episodes were analyzed. The episodes were derived from 7 sessions of interaction between teacher and 4 kindergartners in integrated mathematics and science education activities. As a result of the study, children's concepts related to mathematics and science in integrated mathematics and science education activities occurred three factors: the relationship between weight, shape and movement, the relationship between weight and size, and the concept of measurement. In teacher's teaching-learning strategies, three factors were revealed: teacher's questioning, use of teaching materials, and children grouping.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate which the nature of teacher behavior affects the learning flow in the context of military education. Empirical results show that the leadership of the nature of teacher behavior has a significant effect on three factors of learning flow (flow experience, transformation of time, concentration on task). In addition, the pace of class of the nature of teacher behavior is significantly related to the transformation of time and the concentration on task, and the sense of humor of the nature of teacher behavior significantly affects the concentration on task. The findings provide practical implications on how a military education institution strategically employes the leadership, the sense of humor, and the pace of class in an attempt to select and train instructors.
