  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among child care teachers' personal characteristics, resilience, and social support. The subjects in this study were 154 child care teachers working in Gangwon province. The resilience questionnaire(Jung Hyun Lee, 2013) revised from KRQT-52(Korean Resilience Quotient Test) and the perceived social support scale(Lee Jae-Young, 2012) were used for this study. For the research analysis, frequency, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient, and Pearson's correlation were calculated and ANOVA test, Scheff$\acute{e}$ post-hoc analysis, and regression analysis were conducted. The results are as follows. Firstly, it was revealed that child care teachers' experiences, age, marital status, and type of child care center had a statistically meaningful difference in resilience. In contrast, teachers' educational backgrounds did not have a meaningful difference in resilience. Secondly, all the sub-variables of teacher's perceived social support had a positive statistically significant correlation with all sub-variables of their resilience. Thirdly, physical support of child care teachers' perceived social support had statistically meaningful positive influences on the positive characteristics and the overall resilience. Also evaluative support of child care teachers' perceived social support had statistically meaningful positive influences on the interpersonal skills, self-regulation, positive characteristics, and the overall resilience of resilience. In conclusion, the results indicated that it is needed to strengthen child care teachers' perceived social support for enhancing resilience, taking into account the background characteristics of individual teachers.

  • The purpose of this study was to obtain basic information for novice teachers' adjustment. The data from five novice teachers were collected by in-depth interviews of each subject, as well as reviewing a memo diary, journal and class diary. The results indicated that the novice teachers' experiences were categorized into difficulties in social relationships, heavy workload, stress related to making mistakes, obtaining support and assistance, adequate understanding of their field of work and so on. The model theory for their process of adjustment was found by grounded theory approach. The causal conditions include mistakes in performance of work and immaturity of managing social relationships. The contexts include age of the children, work conditions(i.e. time and space), amount of workload, unfamiliarity of new work assignments, personalities of colleagues, and high frequency of meeting parents of children. The intervening conditions are composed of a guidance program for novice teachers, support from colleagues, work rewards, and the personalities of novice teachers. The novice teacher use three strategies: trying to ignore, sharing difficulties and accessing support from friends or family, as well as willful efforts to transfer negative emotions into positive ones. The consequences of the strategies include: successful career progression, survival, and desire for leaving the field of work.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze research trends of kindergarten and child care center directors focusing on the articles in a journal of early childhood education in Korea. For this, I divided and analyzed 162 articles of related early childhood education directors contained in the National Research Foundation of Korea. The National Research Foundation of Korea listed eight journals from 1991 to 2013, according to the study period, study topic and study method. As a result of this research, first, the research trends in the study period show that until 2003 less than 5 articles were published while gradually increasing since 2004 and the director-related papers were published in the 20 pieces every year from 2009. Second, concerning the study topic, the most common topic was about 'institutional management of director', and 'director leadership', and 'role and duties', and 'quality' were followed. Third, types of study included many quantitative studies but they are decreasing recently and qualitative studies tended to increase since 2006. There are many studies for the teacher and data collection methods have been utilized frequently having questions marked distinct by quantitative research. Data analysis was being used a lot with quantitative analysis. These results of the study imply that it is necessary to execute studies of topics such as a director's leadership and core competencies and to diversify study subjects and methods on the kindergarten and child care center directors.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze pre-service teachers' perceptions and change on the images about young children. The subjects of this study were 31 students in the early childhood department at a university. It was a longitudinal study conducted for four years. The data regarding the images that students had about young children were collected by having them answer a question. The question was "Young children are... Because of..." Subjects were asked to answer that question when they were freshmen and then, to answer the same question when they were seniors in order to see the change. A content analysis and frequency were conducted. The study of the results could be summarized as follows. Firstly, from their first year to senior year, the images that pre-service teachers perceived such as, vibrant active beings and beings with various characteristics" did not change. However, the images such as "being who was capable of interacting with environments" had changed. And the new image which viewed a child as a being who should be respected emerged. Secondly, the factors that influenced the image changes were based on the experience of working as assistant teachers at an early childhood setting, and practicum. Therefore, a systematic work on assistant teachers should be done and a concept about child-center education should be built.

  • Objectives: The COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in changes in the instructional methods used in kindergartens and daycare centers to prevent viral infections. This study aimed to investigate the changes in oral health care for children before and during COVID-19 and the perceptions of kindergarten and daycare center teachers about oral health care. Methods: The study subjects were 189 teachers of kindergartens and daycare centers in charge of children aged 3 to 5. The data for the analysis were collected through an online survey. Frequency analysis and the chi-squared test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Compared to before COVID-19, the frequency of tooth brushing after lunch, the number of oral health education and regular oral examinations, and the rate of childcare teachers' experiences with oral health education had decreased during COVID-19. In addition, educators in kindergarten and daycare centers responded that an oral health officer at a public health center was the most desirable oral health educator. Conclusions: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the oral health care of children in kindergartens and daycare centers has declined. Efforts are needed to restore it by educating people about oral hygiene care and oral health education, both at home and in kindergartens and daycare centers.

  • This study aims to look for care quality factors reduce the daily stress of young children placed in care centers for long hours. Therefore, the research questions look into how the hours and care quality factors in child care centers affect young children's daily stress, and whether the care quality factor moderates the impact of the hours children spent in centers. The subjects in this study were 380 children from 3 to 5 years old from 10 child care centers. The Korean Preschool Daily Stress Scale(KPDSS) for children's daily stress and Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale-Revised(ECERS-R) for quality of each classroom of centers were implemented. The main findings were summarized as following: (1) The more hours he/she spent in the center, the more stress he/she had. Children who spent 9 hours or more had more stress than children with 7 hours or less. (2) Among the 7 quality factors including space and furnishings, personal care routines, language reasoning, activities, interaction, program structure, parents staff, the interaction level between a teacher and a child and the level of parents and staff had the most impact on children's daily stress. (3) The qualitative factors of child care, language reasoning level, interaction level, parental support, and level of teachers reduced children's daily stress which was affected by the hours they spent in centers. Thus in order to reduce the daily stress of children who attend more than 9 hours a day, it is crucial to promote language reasoning activities and interaction between teachers and children and to improve parental support and teachers' professionalism.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the correlations between the stress that middle-aged women experience and their coping methods and to present intervening variables to promote active coping methods. The subjects of this study are 400 middle-aged women from 35 to 59 years old living in S area and the results are as follows. The relationship between middle-aged women's stress, self-defense mechanism, and stress-coping method shows as follows: the role stress is positively correlated with immature defense mechanism, self-restraint defense mechanism and conflict-avoiding defense mechanism. Among stress-coping methods, the problem-centered coping method was found to be negatively correlated with role stress and daily stress. the immature defense mechanism shows negative correlations with the problem-centered coping, but shows positive correlations with the emotion-centered coping and the wishful thinking. Among the self-defense mechanism types not effective in the social-support coping method.
