  • $Fe_3O_4$ and $CoFe_2O_4$ magnetic nanoparticles have been synthesized successfully in aqueous solution and coated with oleic acid. The solid and organic solution of the synthesized nanoparticles was obtained. Self-assembled monolayer films were formed using organic solution of these nanoparticles. The crystal sizes determined by Debye-Scherre equation with XRD data were found close to the particle sizes calculated from TEM images, and this indicates that the synthesized particles are nanocrystalline. Especially, EDS, ED, FT-IR, TGA/DTA and DSC were used to characterize the nanoparticles and the oleic acid adsorption, and it was found that oleic acid molecule on the $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticle is a bilayer adsorption, while that on $CoFe_2O_4$ nanoparticle is single layer adsorption. The superparamagnetic behavior of the nanoparticles was documented by the hysteresis loop measured at 300 K.

  • $WO_3$-doped $SnO_2$ thin films were prepared in a solution-deposition method and their gas-sensing characteristics were investigated. The doping of $WO_3$ to $SnO_2$ increased the response ($R_a/R_g,\;R_a$: resistance in air, $R_g$: resistance in gas) to $H_2$ substantially. Moreover, the $R_a/R_g$ value of 10 ppm CO increased to 5.65, whereas that of $NO_2$ did not change by a significant amount. The enhanced response to $H_2$ and the selective detection of CO in the presence of $NO_2$ were explained in relation to the change in the surface reaction by the addition of $WO_3$. The $WO_3$-doped $SnO_2$ sensor can be used with the application of a $H_2$ sensor for vehicles that utilize fuel cells and as an air quality sensor to detect CO-containing exhaust gases emitted from gasoline engines.

  • The corrosion of steel rebar embedded in the coastal areas is corroding once the chloride ions ingress through the pores of the concrete. Therefore, in the present study, a 100 ㎛ thick Al and Zn coating was deposited by an arc thermal spray process onto the steel. The corrosion studies of these deposited coatings were assessed in 3.5 wt.% NaCl contaminated concrete pore (CP) solution with immersion periods. The results show that the Al coating is more corrosion resistance compared to the Zn coating attributed to the formation of gibbsite (γ-Al(OH)3) whereas Zn coating exhibits Zn(OH)2 onto the coating surface as passive layer. The Zn(OH)2 is readily soluble in an alkaline solution. Alternatively, γ-Al(OH)3 on the Al coating surface is less solubility in the alkaline pH, which further provides barrier protection against corrosion.

  • We study the Dirichlet problem for the degenerate nonlocal parabolic equation ut - a(||∇u||2L2(Ω))∆u = Cb ||u||βL2(Ω) |u|q(x,t)-2 u log |u| + f in QT, where QT := Ω × (0, T), T > 0, Ω ⊂ ℝN, N ≥ 2, is a bounded domain with a sufficiently smooth boundary, q(x, t) is a measurable function in QT with values in an interval [q-, q+] ⊂ (1, ∞) and the diffusion coefficient a(·) is a continuous function defined on ℝ+. It is assumed that a(s) → 0 or a(s) → ∞ as s → 0+, therefore the equation degenerates or becomes singular as ||∇u(t)||2 → 0. For both cases, we show that under appropriate conditions on a, β, q, f the problem has a global in time strong solution which possesses the following global regularity property: ∆u ∈ L2(QT) and a(||∇u||2L2(Ω))∆u ∈ L2(QT ).

  • We study a nonlinear wave equation on finite connected weighted graphs. Using Rothe's and energy methods, we prove the existence and uniqueness of solution under certain assumption. For linear wave equation on graphs, Lin and Xie [10] obtained the existence and uniqueness of solution. The main novelty of this paper is that the wave equation we considered has the nonlinear damping term |ut|p-1·ut (p > 1).

  • [ $Li[Ni_{0.8}Co_{0.15}Al_{0.05}]O_2$ ]cathode material for lithium secondary battery is obtained using co-precipitation method. To determine the optimal metal solution concentration value, the CSTR coprecipitation was carried out at various concentration values(1-2 mol/L). The surface morphology of coated samples was characterization by SEM(scanning electron microscope) and XRD (X-Ray Diffraction)analyses. Impedance analysis and cyclic voltammogram presented that internal resistance of the cell was dependent upon the concentration of metal solution. such data is very helpful in determining the optimal content of metal solution concentration to enhancing electrochemical property by adjusting powder size distribution and crystal structure.

  • Capacitive deionization (CDI) process is a novel approach for desalination of an aqueous salt solution. In the present study, an activated carbon cloth (ACC) is proposed as effective electrode material. Initially the carbon cloth was activated in 1 M and 8 M HNO3 for 9 hours at room temperature. The untreated and chemically activated carbon cloth (ACC) electrode materials were subjected to BET surface area measurements in order to get information about their specific surface area, average pore size, total pore volume and micropore area. The above materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) also. The electrochemical studies for the electrodes were done using cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 0.1 M Na2SO4 medium. From the studies, it was found that resistivity of the activated carbon cloth electrodes (treated in 1 M and 8 M HNO3) was decreased significantly by the chemical oxidation in nitric acid at room temperature and its capacitance was found to be 90 F/g (1 M HNO3) and 154 F/g (8 M HNO3) respectively in 0.1 M Na2SO4 solution. The capacitive deionization behavior of a single cell CDI with activated carbon cloth electrodes was also studied and reported in this work.

  • $In_2O_3$ doped $WO_3$ powders were prepared by a polymer solution route and their $NO_2$ gas sensing properties were analyzed. The synthesized powders showed nano-sized particles with specific surface areas of $6.01{\sim}21.5m^2/g$ and the particle size and shape changed according to the content of $In_2O_3$. The gas sensors fabricated with the synthesized powders were tested at operating temperatures of $400{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ and 100~500 ppm concentrations of $NO_2$ atmosphere. The particle size and $In_2O_3$ content affected on the initial sensor resistance in an air atmosphere. The highest sensitivity (8.57 at $500^{\circ}C$), which was 1.77 higher than the sensor consisting of the pure $WO_3$ sample, was measured in the 0.5 mol% $In_2O_3$ doping sample. In addition, the response time and recovery time were improved by the addition of $In_2O_3$.
