  • The purpose of this study was to explore college students' use of learning strategies in a flipped learning class, and to examine the students' use of learning strategies in relation to their achievement levels. The participants were 33 college students who took an introduction to English education course. The study used three data collection procedures: (1) students' performance score; (2) a pre-and post-survey of student learning strategies; (3) a survey of student perception towards the flipped learning experience. Data were analyzed by using paired samples t-test and ANOVA. Results showed that the students used different learning strategies in the beginning and the end of the course, depending on their achievement levels. In particular, significant differences were found among three groups in terms of time management, concentration, selecting main idea, self-testing, and test strategies. The result indicates that learning strategies can be effectively trained and developed in the flipped learning environment with the consideration of students' levels.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore perceptions, knowledge, and attitudes about AIDS, and to analyze factors associated with social distance for people living with AIDS. Data was analyzed for 645 university students majoring in social work and nursing. The results show that AIDS was most frequently associated with the word sex. Secondly, participant knowledge about AIDS revealed common errors in the prevention and process of infection. Third, correlation between prejudice toward people living with AIDS and social minorities was statistically significant. Finally using hierarchical regression analysis, among factors affecting the social distance for people living with AIDS, only the prejudice toward people living with AIDS remained statistically significant. R Square of the entire model was adjusted to 0.390. In conclusion, the results of this study are expected to influence college education and program development.

  • Most of the curricula of higher educational institutions, including universities, have been operated on a theoretical basis, and as a result, the academic talents have been mismatched with the competencies of industrial demand. Since 2015, the government project called "IPP-type Work and Learning Dual Program(WLDP)" is supporting four-year universities to minimize the academic talents mismatch. The purpose of the project is to improve the working ability of students by linking IPP with WLDP. However, the outcome of linking IPP to WLDP has been frustrating so far. In this study, "WLDP coupled with IPP" is proposed to reduce the perception gap between students and companies. In the suggested progress, student performs IPP first and WLDP second. Two examples have shown that the suggestion can be a quite effective process in matching student with the company.

Based on literatures on intergenerational communication, the effect of stereotype on intergenerational satisfaction was testified and the mediating role of intergroup anxiety and the moderating role of communication competence were also analysed. Results showed that the effect of stereotype was mediated by intergroup anxiety, and the paths were different depending on the gender and communication competence. In the case of the male student group and the group with high communication ability, stereotypes affected intergroup anxiety, but intergroup anxiety did not directly affect intergenerational communication satisfaction. On the other hand, in the case of the female student group and the group with low communication skills, intergroup anxiety had significant effect on communication satisfaction. Also, it was found that the content of stereotype had an important effect on intergenerational communication satisfaction.

  • Now, more than any other time, education experts in Korea are focusing on the importance of reading. Based on this circumstance. it is necessary to introduce and develop reading assessments in the library and information science. The research introduces reading assessment tools from a psychological standpoint for the purpose of increasing reading efficiency through literature reviews. There are four categories reading attitude, interest, motivation and perception on reading. Also the research presents the suggestion to make a new reading assessment tool at a later time. When developing reading assessment tools from a psychological standpoint, it is necessary to establish the items through which how a student feels himself or herself as a reader, and subsequently how teachers, parents, and friends feel the student as a reader. Besides establishing of these appropriate items. a developer should provide directions for administration and interpretation.

  • In this study, we collected teachers' opinions with regard to the effects of the instruction using analogy generation, the disadvantages of the instruction, the problem-solving methods of the instruction, and the teacher's role in it, and accordingly tried to investigate its effectiveness with the analysis of students' academic achievements and motivation, and through the student's interview, after applying the activities of creating generated analogies, finding the difference between the objects and comparisons, and presenting new-known genetics concepts as the students themselves generated analogies. As a result of a teachers' workshop on instruction using analogy development, it was expected to have a positive effect on students' understanding of scientific concepts in genetics, which were found to be difficult for students to understand in learning biology. Students found analogy examples for concepts in genetics in daily life, compared their analogs to those of peers, and examined inconsistencies between targets and analogs through the process of discussion, which finally led to their correct perception of scientific concepts in genetics. In addition, instruction using student-generated analogies proved to have a more positive effect on improving academic achievement and motivating learning, compared with traditional expository instruction.

  • The present study purposed to survey dental hygiene students who will play important roles in guidance and to utilize the data as basic information for setting the direction of dental hygienists' efficient guidance for antismoking and developing antismoking education programs. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with 400 students at the Department of Dental Hygiene in Daejeon, Jollabuk-do and Jollanam-do during the period from May 19 to June 14 in 2008, and drew conclusions as follows: As to correlations among self-efficacy, smoking knowledge, and perception on guidance for antismoking, positive correlation was observed between self-efficacy and smoking knowledge (r=0.102), between self-efficacy and perception on guidance for antismoking (r=0.272), and between smoking knowledge and perception on guidance for antismoking (r=0.352). As to factors affecting perception on guidance for antismoking, the effect was high in order of perception on smoking, smoking knowledge, and self-efficacy. That is, perception on guidance for antismoking was more positive in those who thought that smoking must not be allowed, those with high smoking knowledge, and those with high self-efficacy. For dental hygienists' clinical activities for efficient prevention of smoking and guidance for antismoking, it is necessary to develop curriculums containing various practical contents.
