  • In this paper, for continuous media access operations performed by Clustered Continuous Media Storage Server (CCMSS) system, we present the analytical model based on the open queueing network, which considers simultaneously two critical delay factors, the disk I/O and the internal network, in the CCMSS system. And we derive by using the analytical model the stochastic model for the total service delay time in the system. Next, we propose the integrated stochastic admission control model for the CCMSS system, which estimate the maximum number of admittable service requests at the allowable service failure rate by using the derived stochastic model and apply the derived number of requests in the admission control operation. For the performance evaluation of the proposed model, we evaluated the deadline miss rates by means of the previous stochastic model considering only the disk I/O and the propose stochastic model considering the disk I/O and the internal network, and compared the values with the results obtained from the simulation under the real cluster-based distributed media server environment. The evaluation showed that the proposed admission control policy reflects more precisely the delay factors in the CCMSS system.

  • In this paper, a call admission contro(cac) technique is proposed to reduce the dropping probabilities of handoff calls in wireless networks while guaranteeing QoS to the users. The proposed technique is based on the estimated effective load for the target eel if a call is accepted. When the estimated effective load is higher than a predetermined threshold, a nu call is blocked and a handoff call is queued irrespective of the availability channels. The SRN, an extended Stochastic Petri Net, modes are constructed to compare the performance of the techniques. The SRN uses rewards concepts instead of the complicate numerical analysis required for the Markov chain modes. As a result, the SRN modeling techniques provide an easier way to carry out performance analysis for call admission control and channel allocation.

  • In wireless mobile communication systems, priority of voice service through high speed data and multimedia transmission requires increased service diversification. Research is being carried out in this environment, on the call admission control techniques to guarantee the diversified service's QoS. SRN (Stochastic Reward Net) is an extended version of Petri nets, well know modeling and analysis tool. In this paper, we develop SRN call admission control model considering the 4 classes of services in the 4th generation IEE 802.16e mobile communication Technology.

  • To efficiently reduce on-grid energy consumption, the admission control algorithm in the hybrid energy powered cellular network (HybE-Net) with base stations (BSs) powered by on-grid energy and solar energy is studied. In HybE-Net, the fluctuation of solar energy harvesting and energy consumption may result in the imbalance of solar energy utilization among BSs, i.e., some BSs may be surplus in solar energy, while others may maintain operation with on-grid energy supply. Obviously, it makes solar energy not completely useable, and on-grid energy cannot be reduced at capacity. Thus, how to control user admission to improve solar energy utilization and to reduce on-grid energy consumption is a great challenge. Motivated by this, we first model the energy flow behavior by using stochastic queue model, and dynamic energy characteristics are analyzed mathematically. Then, fuzzy logic based admission control algorithm is proposed, which comprehensively considers admission judgment parameters, e.g., transmission rate, bandwidth, energy state of BSs. Moreover, the index of solar energy utilization balancing is proposed to improve the balance of energy utilization among different BSs in the proposed algorithm. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm performs excellently in improving solar energy utilization and reducing on-grid energy consumption of the HybE-Net.

  • A callable product is one of service derivatives using options to generate demand and reduce risk. This paper compares two booking admission controls for callable products, the online and the batch admission controls. To this end, the paper computes the optimal booking policy by using the backward dynamic programming and the stochastic optimization method. Intuitively, the provider should outperform under the batch control by utilizing demand information. The contribution of the paper is to show that the two controls are equivalent in terms of the booking strategy and the expected profit, which enables the provider to keep its current control method. The paper develops the closed-form solutions for the three fare classes. The future work is to extend the result to the model with complicated fare structures.

  • We consider a multiserver system with two classes of customers with preemption, which is a widely used system in the analysis of cognitive radio networks. It is known that the optimal admission control for this system is of threshold type. We express the expected total discounted profit using the total number of customers, thus reducing the stochastic optimization problem with a two-dimensional state space to a problem with a one-dimensional birth-and-death structure. An efficient algorithm is proposed for the calculation of the expected total discounted profit.

  • We apply a "sliding-window" Maximum Likelihood(ML) estimator to estimate traffic parameters On-Off source and develop a method for estimating stochastic predicted individual cell arrival rates. Based on these results, we propose a simple Connection Admission Control(CAC)scheme for delay sensitive services in broadband onboard packet switching satellite systems. The algorithms are motivated by the limited onboard satellite buffer, the large propagation delay, and low computational capabilities inherent in satellite communication systems. We develop an algorithm using the predicted individual cell loss ratio instead of using steady state cell loss ratios. We demonstrate the CAC benefits of this approach over using steady state cell loss ratios as well as predicted total cell loss ratios. We also derive the predictive saturation probability and the predictive cell loss ratio and use them to control the total number of connections. Predictive congestion control mechanisms allow a satellite network to operate in the optimum region of low delay and high throughput. This is different from the traditional reactive congestion control mechanism that allows the network to recover from the congested state. Numerical and simulation results obtained suggest that the proposed predictive scheme is a promising approach for real time CAC.

  • In this paper, we develop radio resource management queueing model in IEEE 802.IS networks considering both connection and packet level. In the upper level connection, we model connection admission control depending on availability of bandwidth and priority queue in each service class. In the lower level packet, we model dynamic bandwidth allocation considering threshold and availability of bandwidth in each service class simultaneously. Hierarchical model is built using an extended Petri Nets, SRN (Stochastic Reward Nets). Bandwidth utilization and normal throughput as performance index for all service classes of traffic are calculated and numerical results are obtained.

  • Conventional method to reduce the handoff call blocking probability(PBH) in mobile communication system is to reserve a predetermined number of channels only for handoff calls. To determine the number of reserved channels, an optimization problem, which is generally computationally heavily involved, must be solved. In this Paper, we propose a call admission control (CAC) scheme that can be used to reduce the PBH without reserving channels in advance. For this, we define a new measure, gain, which depends on the state of the system upon the arrival of a new call. The proposed CAC decision rule relies on the gain computed when a new call arrives. SRN, an extended stochastic Petri nets, provides compact modeling facilities for system analysis can be calculated performance index by appropriate reward to the model. In this Paper, we develop SRN models which can perform the CAC with gain. The SRN models are 2 level hierarchical models. The upper layer models are the structure state model representing the CAC and channel allocation methods considering QoS with multimedia traffic The lower layer model Is to compute the gain under the state of the upper layer models.

  • In a CDMA system, minimizing handoff calls is an important factor for user satisfaction. In this paper, we divide the cell area into two regions: normal region and soft handoff region. And we show that differentiating the guard channel numbers in those two regions make handoff calls minimized. We develop an SRN based cell model consists of normal and soft handoff region and analyze the performance of the model.
