  • Random walks as specia Markov stochastic processes have received particular attention in recent years. Not only the applicability of the theory already developed but also its extension within the frame work of probability measures on algebraic-topological structures such as semigroups, groups and linear spaces became a new challenge for research work in the field. At the same time new insights into classical problems were obtained which in various cases lead to a more efficient presentation of the subject. Consequently the teaching of random walks at all levels should profit from the recent development.

  • The random vibration of saddle membrane structures under wind load is studied theoretically and experimentally. First, the nonlinear random vibration differential equations of saddle membrane structures under wind loads are established based on von Karman's large deflection theory, thin shell theory and potential flow theory. The probabilistic density function (PDF) and its corresponding statistical parameters of the displacement response of membrane structure are obtained by using the diffusion process theory and the Fokker Planck Kolmogorov equation method (FPK) to solve the equation. Furthermore, a wind tunnel test is carried out to obtain the displacement time history data of the test model under wind load, and the statistical characteristics of the displacement time history of the prototype model are obtained by similarity theory and probability statistics method. Finally, the rationality of the theoretical model is verified by comparing the experimental model with the theoretical model. The results show that the theoretical model agrees with the experimental model, and the random vibration response can be effectively reduced by increasing the initial pretension force and the rise-span ratio within a certain range. The research methods can provide a theoretical reference for the random vibration of the membrane structure, and also be the foundation of structural reliability of membrane structure based on wind-induced response.

  • Support vector machine(SVM) is a new and very promising regression and classification technique developed by Vapnik and his group at AT&T Bell laboratories. This article provides a brief overview of SVM focusing on linear regression. We explain from statistical point of view why SVM might be attractive and how this could be compared with other linear regression techniques. Furthermore. we explain model selection based on VC-theory.

  • The concept of dispersion is intrinsic to the theory and practice of statistics. A formulation of the concept of dispersion can be obtained by comparing the probability of intervals centered about a location parameter, which is peakedness ordering introduced first by Birnbaum (1948). We consider statistical inference concerning peakedness ordering between two arbitrary distributions. We propose nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator of two distributions under peakedness ordering and a likelihood ratio test for equality of dispersion in the sense of peakedness ordering.

  • About 1800, mathematicians combined analysis of error and probability theory into error theory. After developed by Gauss and Laplace, error theory was widely used in branches of natural science. Motivated by the successful applications of error theory in natural sciences, scientists like Adolph Quetelet tried to incorporate social statistics with error theory. But there were not a few differences between social science and natural science. In this paper we discussed topics raised then. The problems considered are as follows: the interpretation of individual man in society; the arguments against statistical methods; history of the measures for diversity. From the successes and failures of the $19^{th}$ century social statisticians, we can see how statistics became a science that is essential to both natural and social sciences. And we can see that those problems, which were not easy to solve for the $19^{th}$ century social statisticians, matter today too.

  • At high frequencies, the statistical approach such as statistical energy analysis(SEA) and energy flow analysis(EFA) has been applied for estimation of vibroacoustic responses of various built-up structures. The energy coupling relationship between finite coupled structures is required to estimate vibrational energetics of built-up structures. Mindlin plate theory includes the rotatory inertia and shear deformation effects which are dominant as frequency increases. In this paper, the wave transmission analysis is successfully performed for EFA of co-planar coupled Mindlin plates.

  • Thid study intends to pursue behavioral-structure of production behavior through statistical models which are using in PERT and Queueing theory. We can corprehand the orders of human production behavior's characteristics by several related attributes of probablity/statistics. These attributes are poisson, Beta, exponential distributions and P.S Laplace's natural probability. Human production behavior is related and regressed to these attributes in many divisions intermediately. Progressive numerical understanding in many essential human behavior acts on the application of practical behavior standard in production word and operation.
