  • Using (r, s)-preopen sets [14] and pre-${\omega}_t$-closures [6], a new kind of covering property $P^t_{({\omega}_r,s)}$-closedness is introduced in a bitopological space and several characterizations via filter bases, nets and grills [30] along with various properties of such concept are investigated. Two new types of cluster sets, namely pre-(${\omega}_r$, s)t-${\theta}_f$-cluster sets and (r, s)t-${\theta}_f$-precluster sets of functions and multifunctions between two bitopological spaces are introduced. Several properties of pre-(${\omega}_r$, s)t-${\theta}_f$-cluster sets are investigated and using the degeneracy of such cluster sets, some new characterizations of some separation axioms in topological spaces or in bitopological spaces are obtained. A sufficient condition for $P^t_{({\omega}_r,s)}$-closedness has also been established in terms of pre-(${\omega}_r$, s)t-${\theta}_f$-cluster sets.

  • Properties of polymer based nanocomposites depend on dispersion state of embedded fillers. In order to examine the effect of dispersion state on rheological properties, a new bi-mode FENE dumbbell model was proposed. The FENE dumbbell model includes two separate ensemble sets of dumbbells with different friction coefficients, which simulate behavior of well dispersed and aggregated carbon nanotubes (CNTs). A new parameter indicating dispersion state of the CNT was proposed to account for degree of dispersion quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Rheological material functions in elongational, steady shear, and oscillatory shear flows were obtained numerically. The CNT/epoxy nanocomposites with different dispersion state were prepared depending on whether a solvent is used for the dispersion of CNTs or not. Dispersion state of the CNT in the epoxy nanocomposites was morphologically characterized by the field emission scanning electronic microscope and the transmission electron microscope images. It was found that the numerical prediction was in a good agreement with experimental results especially for steady state shear flow.

  • Purpose: To report the use of multiband accelerated echo-planar imaging (EPI) for resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) to achieve rapid high temporal resolution at 3T compared to conventional EPI. Materials and Methods: rs-fMRI data were acquired from 20 healthy right-handed volunteers by using three methods: conventional single-band gradient-echo EPI acquisition (Data 1), multiband gradient-echo EPI acquisition with 240 volumes (Data 2) and 480 volumes (Data 3). Temporal signal-to-noise ratio (tSNR) maps were obtained by dividing the mean of the time course of each voxel by its temporal standard deviation. The resting-state sensorimotor network (SMN) and default mode network (DMN) were estimated using independent component analysis (ICA) and a seed-based method. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed between the tSNR map, SMN, and DMN from the three data sets for between-group analysis. P < 0.05 with a family-wise error (FWE) correction for multiple comparisons was considered statistically significant. Results: One-way ANOVA and post-hoc two-sample t-tests showed that the tSNR was higher in Data 1 than Data 2 and 3 in white matter structures such as the striatum and medial and superior longitudinal fasciculus. One-way ANOVA revealed no differences in SMN or DMN across the three data sets. Conclusion: Within the adapted metrics estimated under specific imaging conditions employed in this study, multiband accelerated EPI, which substantially reduced scan times, provides the same quality image of functional connectivity as rs-fMRI by using conventional EPI at 3T. Under employed imaging conditions, this technique shows strong potential for clinical acceptance and translation of rs-fMRI protocols with potential advantages in spatial and/or temporal resolution. However, further study is warranted to evaluate whether the current findings can be generalized in diverse settings.

  • We show that any filter of Tarski algebra can be de-composed into the union of some sets. Moreover, we introduce the notion of expansions of filters in Tarski algebras, and discuss the notion of ${\sigma}$-primary filters in Tarski algebras. Finally, we show that there is no non-trivial quadratic Tarski algebras on a field X with $|X|{\geq}3$.

  • We introduce the concept of what we call "regular difference covers" and prove many nonexistence results and provide some new constructions. Although the techniques employed mirror those used to investigate difference sets, the end results in this new setting are quite different.

  • The Objective of this paper is to provide fuzzy control designers with a design tool for stable fuzzy logic controllers. Given multiple sets of data disturbed by vagueness uncertainty, we generate the implicative rules that guarantee stability and robustness of closed-loop fuzzy dynamic systems. We propose the cell-state transition method which utilizes Hsu's cell-to-cell mapping concept [1]. As a result, a generic and implementable design methodology for obtaining a fuzzy feedback gain K, a fuzzy hypercube [2], is provided and illustrated with simple examples.

  • We present a robust and reliable H$\infty$ state-feedback controller design for linear uncertain systems, which have norm-bounded time-varying uncertainty in the state matrix, and their prespecified sets of actuators are susceptible to failure. These controllers should guarantee robust stability of the systems and H$\infty$ norm bound against parameter uncertainty and/or actuator failures. Based on the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, two state-feedback controller design methods are constructed by formulating to a set of LMIs corresponding to all failure cases or a single LMI that covers all failure cases, with an additional costraint. Effectiveness and geometrical property of these controllers are validated via several numerical examples. Furthermore, the proposed LMI frameworks can be applied to multiobjective problems with additional constraints.

  • This paper presents a robust power system state estimator using linear programming(LP). LP state estimators minimize the weighted sum of the absolute values of the measurement residuals. In this paper, WLS(weighted least square) and WLAV(weighted least absolute value) state estimators are run with same measurement sets including bad data in order to compare the robustness to bad data and convergence characteristics of the two methods. Simulations with three test cases are performed and the results are presented, using IEEE 14 bus system.
